I have always found my dogs happy and well-adjusted after a stay at Shady Pines. Never had a any problems whatsoever!

I went on a 3 day vacation in Savannah and ended up having to board my Doberman puppy honey. I was very apprehensive to leave her not because of the reviews but because she's my baby but I did. The woman that was there when I dropped my baby it was super friendly. The place was clean and safe for pooches. It was very inexpensive which is nice. I couldn't recommend shaft lines more! My fur babies are so excited when my husband and I pick them up from boarding. The very first time of course, I was nervous because my dogs only know and trust me but they are mildly social. They often look back for the "ok" to be petted but they love this place. This boarding facility saves me money and time on trying to find sitters while I'm away for work or leisure. I recommend this facility highly...not just because they are always available but because the amount of love and comfort my babies feel is most important to me and they show it, no doubt. The people and atmosphere are a bit country, the interior needs a coat of paint, yes, but my dogs came back better than they went in. I have three elderly chihuahuas, two on loads of medicine for epilepsy and allergies and thyroid function. They lived. They got baths and nails clipped. Usually when I board them anywhere they get stress diarrhea or an allergic reaction. Didn't happen here! And the price can't be beat! I also like how they are located in back of a vet hospital (not theirs but who cares) in case something happened. My dogs are high risk/maintenance due to their ages (7-12) but this facility was great with them. read more

I am not sure what happened to these bad review folks. My dog has always stayed here for the last 4-5 years. They are always very accommodating and helpful. My dog even goes back to where she stays when she is dropped off. I haven't had any bad experiences here. I'm with the other review about the book and it's cover. I was very apprehensive to give Shady Pines a shot, due to the exterior & previous reviews. I'd spoken with friends who also use Shady Pines & they changed my mind. We gave them a shot with boarding during Christmas & was pleasantly surprised! Our puppy seemed to have had a great time, was in great spirits when we picked him up & in great health. I am absolutely shocked at the lack of professionalism shown by this business. My dog was with them for six days, and when I attempted to pick him up, I was told there was no record of him ever being there. She went to the back to look around and came back and said he wasn't there. Obviously, I'm standing there with a look of pure confusion and responded with "so you lost my dog?" Instead of apologizing and attempting to rectify the situation, she just glared at me like I had three heads. She finally walked off again and came back with my dog and a little piece of paper that was attached to the run he was in. It had the drop off date wrong, so she had to get approval not to charge me extra for that. (Ummm... What?) She made that phone call and then told me what I owed. When I handed her the cash, she counted it and said she didn't have correct change. She again glared at me like I had three heads. And again, I was confused. I told her I wouldn't give her extra and I needed change. She said I could pay with a card. I only had cash. So she then called her "boss" to bring her the change. She proceeded to yell and act like a crazy person. She told me it wasn't her fault. The way she handled it was completely void of any professionalism. She may not have messed up the records, but the way she handled it was absolutely her issue. Frankly she's lucky I reacted as calmly as I did to hearing "we don't have your dog several times" and then being attacked through the whole episode. At one point she actually said "I don't know what you want me to do" when she couldn't find him. What do I want you to do? I want you to find my dog! I do not want you to act like I'm the problem. I'm paying your facility to take care of my dog and you are failing at your one job! Not only that but you're yelling at me for it! Finally, the boss brought change. He offered no apology for any of it. Bottom line, I do not recommend this place at all. It is not clean. They keep terrible records. And like the name says--it's shady! I tried to give them my dog's updated shot records at drop off and the lady refused to take them. She just brushed it off and said I could do that when I pick him up. How many other animals are they keeping without keeping updated records? Would they ever have bothered to ask for that if I hadn't offered? I'll pay a little more next time just so that I'm not yelled at and he's kept up with! I've used this place many times, but this was the final straw for me. read more

If you want your dog to be healthy when you return, this is not the place for your babies. We returned 2 days early, from our week long trip, when the kennel called us and told us that our dog was having seizures (which she has never had) and that they were taking her to a Vet for tests. When we go there...they just dropped the dog off and left her with a vet we didnt know and no information. About $10,000, a trip to a Charleston Vet for an emergency surgery where we were told the dogs chance of life was 20% and a lot of prayers, our dog pulled through. When the vet came to us with a softball size mass of electrical tape, wire and a tennis ball that our dog apparently ate while being in the kennel, unsupervised. The vet told us how shocked they were that no one noticed anything until the dog was seizing because they said her bowl should have been bloody and minimal days and the damage had not been something that happened in one day that he suspected this happened about 4 days prior and her intestines had been ruptured and polluting her body so badly for days. NEVER ONCE did they offer to help pay for their mistake nor offered any type of response to our attempts to contact them.If you would like more information i would be happy to provide it...and other places that are more reliable and trustworthy! read more

This so called 'kennel' should be put out of business for animal abuse. Shortly after moving to Savannah I had gone over to check the place out before I booked our 2 dogs and was happy with the look of what I saw. The staff member I met was very nice and the day care area appeared clean and cared for...but I was not allowed to see the actual kennel because "it upsets the dogs when visitors come thru" I was told. That is true. It seemed reasonable to think the kennel area would be of the same standard as the other areas so we boarded our 2 dogs there for a 4 day stay. We returned a day early and went to pick up the dogs. Our dogs are both large but well behaved....good on leash, do not jump, etc. When the kennel attendant came thru the door with the dogs they were both freaked out...both strained and broke away from her.... One jumped up to my chest and sent me flying. They are normally excited when we arrive to pick them up from a kennel stay but not freaked out like this! BOTH WERE COVERED IN URINE AND ONE WITH FECES!! They were in such a state we took them straight home, bathed them and calmed them down. (before the baths they both urinated for an eternity, for so long they had to switch which leg to lift. they are males). While my husband cleaned our SUV, which had wet urine and feces from the dogs in the carpeting, I went back to Shady Pines. I asked the same employee "What happened to my dogs?!"...incredibly she said "What do you mean?" ! When I said they were freaked out, covered in urine and feces she SHRUGGED her shoulders and said "Well you can bring them back for a bath". I was so livid angry that I had to just leave.... I suspect my dogs were put into a cage and then just left there from the minute we dropped them off until we returned. Hence the urine and feces. My dogs would never mess inside unless given no other option. I also suspect they were not fed as they had both lost some weight and INHALED their food at home that evening. read more

Shaddy Pines is not only a **FIVE*STAR** kennel, but it is also the BEST! one in the Savannah-area, and I HIGHLY! recommend it for anyone looking to "do" their dog(s) GREAT! We recently dropped off our beloved dog Elvis (see our profile picture) for their full grooming service which was SO EXCELLENT! that when we picked him up later he looked like a BRAND NEW DOGGIE!...so SHINY! & POLISHED! that our mouths hit the floor! with amazement at how SUPERB! the work was and how HAPPY! Elvis was over the BIG-TIME 'makeover.' :-O =D I must mention also that 1/2 the staff at Shaddy Pines had been up HALF THE NIGHT! before soothing/calming the dogs in residence that night after a vicious series of thunderdstorms roared through the place (talk about DEDICATION! :-O ), but that didn't affect Shaddy's CLASS-A! service ONE BIT! the next morning when we arrived--our sincere THANKS! goes out to the folks at Shaddy!, they're the BEST! I have to agree with the other reviewer. We just had our two dogs boarded at Shady Pines for about a week. This is the third time we've done so. The first time, we had no problems, but it was only for a day or two. The second time, our dogs came back with kennel cough and flea bites all over. I didn't want to board them there again after the last time but I had no choice and when my wife picked them up, one of my dogs had a limp and the other a one inch bleeding scratch on his face that was half-crusted up and half bleeding.
