The Good - Our dog seems to enjoy going to Barks and always comes back 100% exhausted (assumingly because he has so much fun). We have had generally positive interactions with the staff and the facility seems fairly nice from what we can see. The cage-less atmosphere is a big plus for us. The Bad- You're almost guaranteed to have to pay additional fees for boarding (for those with traditional work or vacation trip schedules). For boarding you can't do a morning check-in or an afternoon/evening check-out without paying an extra $15 fee for each on top of the $50 per night fee. You can't pick your dog up on Sundays at all unless you make pre-arrangements and pay another $15 fee. The Ugly- We felt pretty scammed on our last boarding. We dropped him off Friday for a 1-night stay and were told we could pick him up anytime before 7pm the next day (the front desk girl even said "Saturday? Anytime before 7"). But we received a call at 6:15pm the next day asking when we were coming to pick up our dog because they were closing (they told us the girl at the front desk made a mistake and they don't stay open until 7pm on Saturdays). We said we were 15 minutes away, our GPS said we would be there at 6:30pm. They said they were sorry about the mistake, but that was too long to wait and we would have to pick him up the next morning. We weren't thrilled, but mistakes happen, ok. First thing the next morning we went to pick them up and the front desk girl (the one who had said 7pm) was very apologetic, but then CHARGED us both for the 2nd night we didn't want AND a Sunday pickup fee. Blown away, I asked "are you really charging us for the 2nd night?". She called what I assume was the manager and they took off the Sunday pickup fee but still charged us the extra $50 for the extra night. Might be a little over-dramatic, but it really felt like they held our doggo hostage and then demanded ransom to get him back. We paid it, but we really lost our trust in Barks with this. We'll probably try to avoid Barks in the future if we can. The ???- every time we pick our pup up from boarding, he drinks a comical amount of water. It's probably because he's too busy running around with the other dogs to drink, but we do hope they have water bowls out for the dogs at all times. read more

We recently brought our pups here and we weren't highly impressed. I first took them in to take a temperament check and they did well! The man working the front desk was kind and informative. He really made me feel comfortable with the facility. The other gentleman who took the dogs for the check was also kind and made me feel comfortable as well. He even helped me take my pups to the car which I can appreciate because sometimes they can be rambunctious. We brought them in to stay from a Saturday to Sunday. We found out that they are not open on Sunday's for any type of boarding or daycare so you need to arrange to pick them up by appointment and you need to pay a surcharge fee. Also because we brought them in on Saturday before there drop off time window, we needed to pay a surcharge fee for that as well. Before we got in the car, one of our dogs had to pee excessively. When we got home, our dogs were so thirsty and throughout the entire day just kept drinking more water. It was just very unusual. We just kept thinking did they give them water at all while they were there? We just don't know if we want to board them there again. read more

I worked there for a long time and was warned the moment I got there how management was but I loved the dogs so I stayed as I continued to work there i started to see how the animals were treated during their boarding stays and how the owners were lied to about so many things let me just start off by saying The dogs day at 6am the dogs get to go potty and fed they only get to eat for 5 minutes if they dont eat their food gets thrown away oh and if you dog has allergies please don't bring them here the owner will put stuff in every dogs food even tho it's in red that they have allergies and not to feed anything but what owner provides and also don't even give the dogs what owner wants them to have then they go on the floor from 7am - 11am this is the only time they get to play then at 1 they get to go potty fed dinner again they get about 8 minutes to eat and again it's thrown away unless you tell them at check in that you want them to be left in their suite over night and then at 6- they get their last potty break until 6 the next morning if you don't bring your dog a bed or blanket they will not be given one I will be posting some pictures down low of just some examples another thing is there have been so many times where I have seen so many situations where the dogs care has not been the main concern in an issue and owner have not been notified like they should have I have seen dogs have a dislocated hips and wounds down to tendons and wounds that have turned infected shown little to no care at all to where I would have to go behind back to tell owner about their pet or break rules for the dog's safety and then when they are notified they are notified to a person across the world that has no idea the severity of the issue and has sugarcoated multiple times because of the lack of communication from management ive seen multiple cases where the lack of response to a dogs distress has caused the worst to happen to the dog. If responses were made at a timely matter, the dogs outcome could have been a way better outcome. Any time that you tip on the card machine employees do not get it even though the owner does nothing with the dogsThe employees do not get breaks I have been in situations where I have had over 35 dogs by myself and their have been fights break out and I have no one to help me the situations we are put in are not safe all the management cares about is money he don't care about staff to dog ratio or safety we have no way of communicating through out buildings even if we were to be getting attacked by a dog and also with lack of staff we are often made to leave dogs unattended while we help costumers at the front desk another thing about our safety is we have fallen and hurt ourselves due to leaks in equipment and building leaks and also to the owner not know how to properly mop he leaves the floor soaking wet and also i have seen him literally pour a whole gallon of chemicals on a mess that was highly unacceptable and dangerous to workers and dogs health oh and the ot yeah let's get started with this talk I have proof oh him threatening to take some of our pay away if we get in trouble it's not a garentee amount of money they do something like a 2.75 bonus per hour and then threaten to take it away like what and one thing about me is I love when a company has cameras cuz ain't nobody finna say I did something when I did it but even tho their are cameras everywhere and he watches us on his phone like a crazy person he still will try and lie and then refuse to look at the proof another thing is you have to pay to bring our own dog like we don't even make enough to be able to pay for that cuz of the unreal pricing like what i promise you please take your dog to von-trap doggie day care the have a pool and toys and it's ran by a vet but at barks doggie day care they don't get anything not even a ball read more

This truly is a 5 star facility but cost and policies stopped me from giving that fifth star. We had previously been at another kennel that had cleanliness issues. Barks is immaculate. However, it is double the cost of our previous kennel. We went on a short trip to Charleston SC using our Bluegreen Points. Our lodging on Bay Street was less expensive than our little dog's. Let me start with the positives: The overnight dogs are mixed with the doggie day care dogs for socialization. The kennel required a 2 hour temperament check prior to acceptance of the reservation. Our little guy loved it. The small dogs are separated from the big dogs. The medium sized dogs go in either group depending on personality. The groups rotate between inside and outside space and their kennel. Kennels are extremely clean with a little cot. Dog poop and urine are immediately taken car of. Total areas are sanitized 3 times a day. Employees are knowledgeable and nurturing. There are video cams and you are given an access code to watch your dog's group. They don't currently have a groomer but the groom shop was clean and they are pursuing a new groomer. Very kind and loving environment. Negatives: Cost, $$$$. The price was $41/day. It may be more for a larger dog, I'm not sure about that. On top of that there is a $10 charge if you drop off before 12:00 pm. There is another $10 charge if you pick up After 12:00 pm. That can be $51 for your first and last day. It is that extra $10 fee that I have trouble with. They are open 7:30am-7:00 pm. In Savannah, you definitely get what you pay for. Our former kennel had great nurturing people but hair everywhere and no play sessions. The Bark kennel has incredible standards and lots of interaction with nurturing staff but it will cost you. About 90% sure we will return but may search to find a place in the middle. You get what you pay for. read more

We've been taking our dogs to Barks for more than five years and are very happy with them. I was unimpressed with other places and visited Barks on a whim one day. They offered to give me a tour and I was delighted by the staff's friendliness, the cleanliness, the quality of the "suites", and how well-lighted and open the place is. We were going out of town for one night and needed someone to watch our dogs. The facility seems top of the line. I was very impressed with the facility. However, we took our dogs in and was told it would be $45 dollars a day. We said ok. We were told they need to take a behavior test. Not a problem to us. We brought them the day before for the behavior test. They took them back and then came back front then told us that would be $25 dollars per dog. They did not tell us about the cost prior to the test. We asked ok can you tell us a total of what it will be for all three dogs for one night. They said they couldn't give us an exact total (not sure why) but, the estimate would be $130. We said ok and dropped them off anyways at 9AM on Saturday. I picked them up on Sunday at 1PM and the total ended up being around $275 dollars because they had more fees per dog. This was after we used our Gulfstream discount as well. I do think the price is outrageous but, the problem is they were not upfront with the prices. They never went over it with us or explained the cost. As you can imagine, it caused a lot of frustration on our end. I will not use them in the future due to the price. read more

Barks is worth HOWLING about it. My experience with this pet palace started about a week ago. I filled out their online application for the temperament test. It was just basic information. Then they called me to setup our temperament test. They called me the same day I emailed them the application. Four paws up for giving me a call fast and setting up our appointment. As soon as we walked into Barks we were greeted with smiles. They gave me a tour of the facility. My dog was given his little test -- which he pawed right through. I then scheduled his first day of doggie day care. Everything has been so easy and the price has been right on target. I like the ease of scheduling that Barks offers. I can even have my dog groomed when he stays at Barks. I love the fact that I can watch my furry family member through web-cams while he is playing with all his new found friends at Barks. When I walked into Barks it had a clean smell. You would never know that all kinds of doggie fun was taking place behind the scene. I'm so relieved that we've found Barks. Now, when we are out of town we don't have to worry about our dog. We can board him and not feel guilty. It's great to know that my dog gets to have fun when we are out of town. read more

I took my dog here for a temperament test and while I was there the groomer had asked if I wanted his nails done . I said sure , we can try ,because my dog had recently not allowed his nails to be trimmed . The groomer ,Emily ,got my boy on the table and was so kind and patient with him and got the job done ! We are a military family and have an american bulldog and he loves going there. We take him often just to play and he knows his way around. Great staff and I'm glad they started the pet deposit to reserve a spot because they book fast. After a day or a week of stay/play all my dog does is sleep because he's so exhausted. read more

We brought our dogs in for evaluation for pet sitting. We use the poker type training collar for our dogs and upon giving over the leash to the "trainer" they proceeded to PULL one of our dogs who was nervously sitting. Not okay with these collars at all. During the evaluation it was said that the same dog "showed teeth aggressively" during the evaluation to the "trainer". Our dog when meeting new people scrunches his nose and yes his teeth show. We explained that to the "trainer" and immediately she became defensive and somewhat rude. Between the miss use of the leash and collar plus the attitude of the so called "trainer". We will not be using Barks service or recommending them for that matter. Other trainers at Barks may be more qualified, but seems our introduction was furnished with complete incompetence. The frond desk employee was very helpful and more than great however. read more

(My email following a visit, and the response back from Barks): First off, I'd like to thank you for all of your fast email responses, and giving the impression that my dogs would be well cared-for at your facility. Unfortunately after their temperament test, I have no desire to board them at Barks. I put a lot of effort into explaining their special needs in advance, to make sure your staff could not only handle them, but take these things into consideration during their stay. I also emailed their medical records. When I walked in I assumed that the person booking the reservation would be aware of these things, or have the capability of printing them out. When someone takes time to write specific details about their animals, the last thing they want to do is explain or retrieve the documents again. The girl at the desk was very friendly, but had no information about my dogs, what days to board them, and under what conditions I was comfortable. I don't expect anyone be an expert on lethalwhite aussies, but a heads-up on the puppy's handicap would have avoided how uncomfortable I felt when she referred to him TWICE as " little one with the beady eyes". People are always curious, but I don't think that phrase has ever been intended as a compliment. I was under the impression that a suite was available beginning Saturday, June 23rd, and we needed to be there today for testing. I thought I made it clear I didn't want them in an overnight group. When I found out the suites were booked until the following day, I was upset no one gave me a call or email... before driving 30min and paying for testing. She told me a suite would be available the 24th and suggested bringing a crate, and they could sleep in the hallway. Your website describes a cage-free environment. I could take my dogs to any kennel and have them boarded in a run. Even the GIANT crate I have at home is cramped for two dogs, not to mention loading it up in my car. I wanted convenience, and I was willing to pay for it. Not extra hassle. I did receive a voicemail afterward saying there was a suite available the 23rd, and my reservation was set. Although the apology was polite... the damage was already done. I wouldn't take my fur babies anywhere else!!! Back when we were a one dog family and lived in Pooler, we used to board our girl at Godley Station Animal Hospital's boarding facility. It's separate from the Vet's office so the animals don't have to fear they're going to the vet when entering. Don't get me wrong, the people there were wonderful and they took good care of her, but it was standard boarding and she was kept in a cage. We always had to drag, or ever carry, her 75lbs of Labness into the facility. When we picked her up, she was always downtrodden and had lost weight. She wouldn't eat well because she was drpressed. The care was good, but cages for days on end don't make anyone happy. Enter Barks! A friend who had started taking her dog there for daycare due to separation anxiety recommend them. We decided to give it a try and have never looked back. The temperament test was a simple process. They took her outside and introduced one dog at first to see how she interacted. One by one, they let the other dogs out and watched her behavior in a group. She was timid walking in the door of the facility but not with the dogs. She passed and so our first boarding experience was set. Once again she seemed a bit wary of what she was being brought here for, but the staff immediately loved on her and reassured her and we left hoping for the best. That was the last time she entered those doors timidly. Now, she sees us drive up to the building and starts chortle barking and wagging her tail in excitement. SHE drags US in the door and is so excited to see the staff behind the desk. She's getting to be an older girl now, so she "supervises" play now more than she joins, but she's always happy to see that building and the staff could not possibly instill more confidence. You can see them constantly interacting with the dogs on the webcam and they are very friendly at drop off and pickup. It was 100% worth the drive from Pooler to Richmond Hill, and of course we continued to use Barks when we moved to Savannah, even though there are other group style boarding facilities that are very close to home. Now that we are a two dog house, both our girls love BARKS! And we feel confident that the staff there loves them like we do! We would never go anywhere else! read more

Barks Gymboree has been an unbelievable experience since we started taking our dog Laika (Feb 2012) They are always friendly and professional. Never failing to go out of their way to accommodate any needs we or our dog have. The care they display to Laika is as she is their own dog. Some of the things I love about Barks and their staff, someone is there 24/7, at any time we can check in with her on the web cams, the staff is always smiling and genuinely care about the dogs they look after. It is a big plus to have, daycare, kenneling and grooming all at one stop. Laika smells amazing when she returns after a day of daycare + grooming :) Their prices are right on and the daycare packages make it even easier, I recommend Barks to everyone. I'm not sure what happened during my dog's 7 day stay at Barks, but he was returned to us with a quarter size callus on his elbow and 4 small ones, all lined up in a row, on his lower leg. He's never had a callus before!!! He was also skinnier, not a little, a lot!! His ribs and spine were very visible. Stephanie informed me, with an attitude, that he ran out of food and they had to substitute their own. I find this to be UNTRUE because I left them with 9 days of food, not 7, just in case something happened to our boat during our cruise and Barks had to keep him longer. In addition to the calluses and lose of weight, my husband and I saw our dog on camera a total of 3 times during his 7 day stay. Stephanie informed me on Monday, when I called to check on him, that he was in a suite because he sprained his ankle a little from playing too hard and that it was normal for puppies. After that discussion I was constantly looking for him on camera to see if he had a limp and needed to possibly send someone to take him to the vet PLUS I had a feeling they were now going to be kept in a room for most of his stay. I called again two days later because we still had not seen him on camera and AGAIN, he was in a suite. When we picked him up Saturday, May 27th, we were standing in the lobby for a minute and since no one came out, I walked up to the door that leads to the big playroom. I immediately saw one of the handlers, sitting in a chair, up against the wall that is NOT viewable by the camera, holding onto my dog by the collar. When he saw me, about 30 secs later, he pretended to start petting him! I asked Stephanie, as we were checking out, why was my dog being held back from playing and she said "Oh! there's a new dog here and it's a little timid." Interesting excuse...I decided not to bother asking her for any further explanation because I'm pretty sure it would have been more BS. May 30, 2017, I asked my dog walker if she noticed anything different about my dog and of course she said "his ribs are showing!" Thank God Barks is not the only dog daycare in the Savannah area. read more

I am completely DISAPPOINTED with this place. 1st strike my dog's bowls got broken. It would've been ok it's just a bowl but I was upset no one was aware of it nor did they know how it happened! I noticed and asked everyone but they had no idea. How is that possible ! Second strike, I go to check her out one day and they tried to double charge me after her stay was already prepaid. It wasn't until I found my receipt that she realized that it was already paid for. Third strike, I left her over the weekend had a family emergency. Not only do they charge a "late fee" on Sunday no matter what from 9am-6pm, I was told I couldn't pick her up after I was traveling in the rain because it's only one person who works over night and he is not trained on the computer or to checkout dogs for pickup. My question is, why have someone untrained there at night and why only one person! GOD forbid something happens it's only him there with all those dogs. What is he trained to do if he can't even go in the computer and check the pets out to the correct owners. So THEN today I go and check her out and her food bowl is still full after her being there FOUR DAYS ! I asked about her eating breakfast and dinner all those days and they tell me she ate some, but it's not all completely logged. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK ! read more

When we picked up our Riley after a week of boarding, he was glad to see us, of course, but he also kept looking back towards the door that led back to his friends. I interpret this behavior as his way of saying, "I really liked it here! Can I come back?" The web cam feature is wonderful. I could watch Riley play with doggie friends and interact with people. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much people interaction all the dogs receive. Kudos to the staff at Barks. read more

I took my two dogs to Barks for a five day stay. They had never stayed away from home, except when we have boarded them at the vet in our old hometown. We are fairly new to the area. When we went in, the place was super clean and the service was excellent. My dogs loved it there in a suite of their own and I was able to monitor them online while my family was out of town.
