We are out-of-towners that found this joint on a maps search. Based on the reviews I read from others and the lack of BBQ options in our area, I was very excited to try this place. However, it didn't quite live up to the hype. My husband had the poutine with brisket (pictured), he ate most of it, but when asked for his thoughts on it he said the brisket seemed to have more pieces of fat than actual meat. The cornbread side he ordered was good though, with just the right amount of sweetness. I had a pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and potato salad. The beans had so many good reviews I felt compelled to try them, and they weren't bad just seemed like basic canned beans with some pulled pork thrown in. The pulled pork for the sandwich was fine, but came smothered in what appeared to be paprika, nothing special. Potato salad ingredients were nicely sized, but it was bland. The barbecue sauce might be homemade and you could feel the grittiness of the sugar crystals in it, which was surprising but good, and had a little bit of heat to it. I snuck a bite of my kids' mac and cheese after my two year old took a bite and said, "bleck." The Mac and cheese had the right amount of creaminess and the noodles were cooked to the right amount of tenderness to keep it from tasting like it's been sitting all day, but it seemed very bland and needed salt to be enjoyable. The pickles were very good. It took nearly thirty minutes to receive our food, but our server was very prompt in welcoming us and getting drinks to the table. They were also very friendly when my little one didn't want to stay seated and kept thinking the ATM was her personal computer, the struggle was real after being strapped in a car seat for the last 1.5 hours. There is a popcorn machine that offers free popcorn and a couple different seasoning options to top it with. My kids enjoyed the popcorn while we waited for our food. When I asked my kids what they thought of our new restaurant find, my middle daughter (10) commented on how the bartender was very loud and talked a lot. She could be heard regardless of which end of the restaurant she was on. I noticed the same thing, but thought maybe it was just me. We were fed, but probably won't return. This restaurant is located next to a railroad track in the middle of a very wooded area and the deer were abundant. Service was above average. Ordered a doz wings. They were hot and done well. My only complaint was they were virtually tasteless, no seasoning at all, was offered blue cheese for a dipping sauce. Tried to dip into my blue cheese sauce and was a dry skin on it, couldn't get my wing to break the skin. So I used there house sauces instead. Went there twice today. First we had lunch. Pulled pork sliders with coleslaw and baked beans as sides. Best baked beans I've ever had, huge pork chunks in beans. Slaw was great. Left totally satisfied and was in and out in 30 minutes. We were in a hurry. Brought friends back for dinner. They live in the area but had never been there. The ladies had pulled pork sliders with baked beans. My guy friend had perfectly smoked half rack of ribs along with 1/4 pound brisket with baked beans. I had the whole 1/4 brisket with baked beans and potato salad. Sides were fantastic. And those baked beans, I could eat a pail of them. Highly recommend without any reservations. A true gem in Adams county. Locals and outsiders alike should take notice of the service and quality of food offered at this establishment. I walked in this afternoon ~1:00 PM. I sat down at the bar and the waitress told me she would be with me shortly. As I looked around I could tell that there was a passion for BBQ in this establishment. The decor and vibe is just right for Adams county. The waitress brought me my water, menu, and sauces. She proceeded to inform me about the menu and what was/was not available for ordering today. (Sounds like the deep fryer was out of commission. No big deal, I came for BBQ. As a consumer I appreciated the candor) The menu itself was not hard to follow, but in my opinion could be simplified even more. I opted for the 1/2 chicken dinner for 12$ and am glad I did. (They guy next to me said "if you don't mind me asking, what did you get?" It just looked good!) The dinner came with two sides, a slice of cornbread, pickled onions and sweet pickles . I chose Cole slaw and Akers corn for my sides. Before I got my meal I asked the waitress, (who was bussing, bartending, and waitressing all herself) if they had a "shake a day". She said they did. (If you don't frequent Wisconsin, shake a day is a good habit to get into ;) look it up on google. ) The waitress came back with the dice and informed me of the house rules for shake of the day. "Three rolls, no farming" Won a free drink on the first shake. The poker chip in the picture is my drink token. When the waitress first brought over the sauces she told what each of them were. Alabama sauce (combo of horseradish and Mayo) , Mustard sauce (had a nice base of yellow mustard which I like, but not too overpowering), and House BBQ (seemed like a ketchup based sweeter sauce, would be nice with fries). She then asked if I liked spicy, I told her absolutely. She went back in to the kitchen, brought out a bottle of another sauce, and told me it was a sort of sweet and spicy Nashville hot bbq sauce. She proceeded to tell me it's sweet on the front end but will sneak up on you a little bit. All of the sauces were well put together, yet simple, and tasty. My chicken was very nice, I could tell it was fresh. Had a nice smoke to it and seasoning was just enough. I would get it again. Coleslaw was very simple nothing really, good or bad, stuck out to me. Added a little spicy bbq sauce to it and that was a nice touch. Akers corn was very nice - basically creamed corn with peppers and some other stuff, and would absolutely recommend it to others. Overall, my experience was pleasant. Good Chicago style BBQ. Pretty cool to have a former executive chef for Sweet Baby Rays on Castle Rock Lake. Thankful for the experience. The pit master knows what he's doing with the meats here. Perfect brisket and smoked chicken half was great. What I didn't like was the coleslaw. Some people rave about it but I was not a fan and I love good slaw. It was chopped cabbage, of course, with chopped green onions and little to no dressing. You don't have to reinvent coleslaw. It's been around forever. Just chop it fine and have a good dressing. No onion! I ended up putting it on top of my brisket sandwich for added crunch. Corn bread was ok, average at best. Four good sauces that are kept refrigerated, which was nice Mac and cheese side was good too. For me coleslaw makes BBQ and I was disappointed at what they had here. Still give it four stars. Some of the best barbequed chicken I have ever had. Coleslaw super fresh and crisp. Mac and cheese made so creamy. Husband doesn't like white meat, ate every bit of it. 1/2 chicken with 2 sides was $12. Only downside very noisy in bar 1 hr for meal to come. Waitress was super nice and friendly. Pretty much the same experience as Landen's review. I ordered 1/2 pound pulled pork, 1/2 pound brisket, beans and coleslaw. The beef and pork were outstanding! The brisket had a nice peppery rub and the smoke flavor was excellent. Just the right amount of fat and lean. I'm craving more as I write this. The pulled pork was melt in your mouth delicious. Excellent smokey flavor again. Beans seemed a little on the old side, but maybe that's just how they are made. Tried them anyway and honestly loved them. Don't let the looks fool you. Coleslaw was very fresh tasting but not overly flavorful to be honest. Now for the sauce. The house made ketchup based sauce was not good. I have to be honest here. Another reviewer said that it might be good on fries. I totally agree. I made the mistake of putting it on the meat and immediately scraped it off. The meat stands on its own and the not so good sauce just ruines it. Don't make that mistake. I tried the Carolina sauce but to be honest I'm not a huge fan of that type of sauce, so I won't comment on it. Not a horse radish sauce fan either so skipped that one. The last sauce was the sneaky hot one. I actually liked that one enough but not enough to slather it all over the meat. So bottom line, the smoked meat was fantastic. The sauces all need some work. If you go here, and you should, order any of the outstanding smoked meat but skip the sauces. You don't need them anyway. read more

Was here on Sunday, May 28. We ordered the Brisket Poutine. The pieces of brisket in the dish was pure fat and couldn't eat it. As a local, I use to frequent this establishment at least once a week. We stumbled upon this restaurant couple of years ago. Loved everything about it. Food was amazing and so was the atmosphere. Unfortunately for last year or so we haven't been back and finally had a chance last weekend. What a disappointment it was. They went from perfect 5 stars to down to 2 and that's being generous. Complete visit was a disappointment. They change their menu before you were able to get a sandwiches, dinners, etc which included the bun and two sides (if I remember correctly). NOW...you have to pay for the bun ($2) for the meat (ranges from $8-30) and sides and the sides that you want. What was disappointing was the food quality and taste. Either they lost their cook or lost the recipe book.... Meats were too dry, shady corn use to be great now it's not edible (taste like somebody put too much vinegar, coleslaw nothing special, brisket to fatty and tasteless, meatloaf tasted like it came out of a frozen section and pork was too dry). Place definitely lost what they initially had. Huge disappointment definitely will not go back!!!! Also, this place needs to update their system and take something else besides cash only! read more

Brisket was amazing. My wife and I split the 1 lbs. Suggest getting the corn bread for a side as well. We have eaten here many times. Nice cozy place, not too big or too small. Drinks were good, owners are very nice people and care about their business. Our kids even bought sweatshirts. We will be back again. read more

The barbecue was the best I've tried in years. We had the brisket and the chicken thighs (thank you for that, breasts just can't take the heat and get too dry but that's all some bbq joints offer) and both were succulent and delicious. I appreciate the variety of sauces as well, as barbecue sauce preference varies so much. I'm a Memphis girl and liked the original red sauce but having the Carolina sauce for an occasional dip was nice. These folks know how to smoke meat well. The sides were excellent also, we loved the beans, the mac n cheese and the slaw. The owners were personable and the place was rustic and relaxed. We are very glad we stopped and only wish they were closer to our home. read more
