Personally could've used a little more rice. Can't wait to try a few of the other dishes. Especially the garlic shrimp. - how many references on their website to a liquor selection. But they do have a nice bar and extremely good margaritas of your choice. - tortillas and picante serve served immediately upon seating. For me, the salsa was a little thin and mild. - the server, Carlos, was phenomenal. Ever attentive, without being overbearing. - when I asked about a hot sauce, they had a nice election, but they also had a homemade extremely hot option. Word of advice is, do not touch your eyes.! Small town Mexican restaurant. I've lived in Mauston for almost 3 years now and hadn't ventured into the restaurant until early spring of this year. I was craving Arroz con pollo and a good margarita, so we loaded up the family and popped in. It's a smaller restaurant, but the overall consensus is it's clean, colorful and the staff was amazing. Very friendly folks who provide excellent service and a smile. Food was great and we will definitely be coming back. read more

We were pleasantly surprised. We arrived for lunch and were seated promptly. Our server was quick to bring us beverages. The food was fresh and appropriately portioned for the lunch menu. I had the chimichanga. It was fresh. The tortilla was crisp and flaky. The server did a great job with all my requests to adjust the meal to my liking. My husband had the fajitas. This is my second attempt at writing a review for this place. My first would not allow me to edit my review! Grrrrrr Anyway, a nice MEXICAN restaurant that my wife just loves. Me....not so much but I'm not big on mexican food. I know....don't go there if you don't like mexican.....but as i said....my wife loves it. So i usually get the egg and bacon dish which is ok. However, i HATE ONIONS and the sides you get (rice) has ONION, pepper, and tomato in it...yuk! You also get beans...so so! They have cheeseburger and fries on the childrens menu but the waitress indicated that *they* did not like to serve that to adults?? Hmmmm WHY NOT??? We started off with chips and salsa, and I'd have to say that the salsa was very good I had three enchiladas and they were pretty good. My least favorite was the one with ground beef--the beef was just kind of blah! The chicken enchilada was pretty good, but OMG, the cheese one was outstanding. What a difference a year can make! I don't know what has changed (ownership? cooks?) but something has happened to Cinco de Mayo, and it's not good. We've been consistently visiting this restaurant for the last few years, and absolutely LOVED it. My ex is Mexican, and I'm very familiar with the culture and the food (my suegra taught me how to make several dishes), so I'm no hack, and I know GOOD Mexican food when I taste it. And bad... My husband and I stopped in after not being here since last fall. What the...? Everything was tasteless. Salsa had absolutely no spice and no flavor (I like my salsa mild, but still, it needs to be tasty). No more of the ranch dip mention in another post either - that's GONE. And the chips tasted stale, and even "bitter" - like it was made in rancid oil. And they were cold. Hubby and I both got the lunch enchiladas - barely any cheese on top, and the sauce, again, without any flavor. The chicken filling in mine WAS tasty, but the tortillas were bland. There wasn't much cheese filling in the 2nd enchilada. Rice was OK, but again, very bland. When we first bought our vacation home in this area, this place was amazing! Stopped in town for the night and we were looking for something different than the standard highway options and really glad we landed here. The decor is as fun as the folks running the place and the only reason not to give it a fifth star was that the tacos were rather bland. This is a new restaurant located in the former site of the Eastern Chinese Restaurant, across from the Kmart shopping center, near the Blockbuster. One of the neater things was that they offer an unusual type of spicy ranch dressing to dip the chips into. Their guacamole was a bit spicy for me. The other items that we ordered (enchiladas and burritos with refried beans and rice) were too salty and very mediocre. On the other hand, their tacos were absolutely awesome! My boyfriend said they were flash-fried which made them so tastily cruncy and delicious. I'd come back and just order tacos - I think they have some type of taco special to go. If you're in the mood for great Mexican food, take the short drive to La Tolteca in Portage instead - but if you just want tacos, this is the place for an authentic Mexican taco. read more

If you want a homemade Chelada beverage, make sure you rob a bank before you order one here! My lunch order today for myself came to 25.30-I ordered 3 steak tacos and 1 chelada, which was 12.99!!! I verified that this was correct when I paid the bill. It was good, but for 2.99 at Kwik Trip I could have purchased a Modelo chelada that was as good or better. Food quality was good, food arrived very quickly after ordering. It took almost 10 minutes to get our water and chelada. The food was probably a 3. Everything else was lacking. Our server was slow and not attentive at all. At one point we needed napkins and asked another server for some. She was young and looked like a deer in headlights. She never brought the napkins. We sat for quite awhile after our meal without our server bringing us the bill. When we went up to the register to pay, we asked the guy to divide it equally 3 ways. He had a calculator in his hand and couldn't figure it out. When he did, he over charged us $11 each ($33 total). Shame on us for not paying closer attention. They had to credit our cards back, but someone from our work group had to bring the cards back into the restaurant. Get it together guys. Service - I don't know if the guy was new or just didn't care but I had one beer the entire time I sat there. The server didn't return to ask if anyone wanted drinks, he would only get them if people got his attention. Chips were only served if we asked for them, they don't give you a new basket when you get empty. Food was slow to make it to the table. Food - To start, chips were stale. The basket was warm but the chips were stale. The food was cold for several of our meals and one in our group returned it. Be aware of the nickel and diming for everything. They will charge you for chips, and don't give you a itemized receipt. We had several bills come out higher than they were supposed to and the manager had to correct the issue. Would I recommend this place? No. With all the competition on Mexican food, this place didn't compete with anyone. Slow service, cold food, and you'll pay for every grain of salt you use. read more

Portions of food are very generous. The service was great. This place is in a small strip mall so take a second look when trying to find it. I think when we visited recently they are working towards several needed maintenance items. Restrooms need repair and cleaning. Some upholstery is in progress.
