The atmosphere was great. Nice scenery, fun playground, beach front... the food could have been better for the cost. I understand it's a tourist location and comes with the price tag, BUT the menu has no prices listed. I'm not sure how much any individual item was. I would have been fine with the total, if the food had been better. The lobster roll was an explosion of salt and seasoning that was over-done and rubbery. The bread on the roll seemed like bakery clearance item. The duck wontons were very good. The burgers our kids got were not good, but my son was ok with it. None of it seemed fresh. The menu item I would return for is the Ahi Tacos. Very good. Not the worst experience, but not the best. read more

This place is awful! I ordered the nachos, burger, and chicken fingers. The nachos were disgusting. It came out with rotten lettuce and stunk. I sent it back and asked for new nachos without lettuce. All they did was scoop off the lettuce from the top. When i confronted the bar tenders they didn't seem surprised by the cooks actions. I am only giving it a 1 star because the bar tender was nice and took the nachos off my bill and gave me a token for a free drink. The price of the food and quality doesn't match. You could get a better burger from McDonald's, and the chicken tenders tasted like frozen Tyson chicken. read more

Been going here for years with the family. Have always loved the friendly kid area outdoors and drinks for the adults. Staff is always friendly even during busier times. I recently came back during their off season (not summer) and was pleasantly surprised that they have updated their menu a bit. Now they have gluten free burger buns and gluten free pizza! Heck yeah! My girlfriend has a gluten allergy so I was thrilled to find one of my favorite establishments had an option for her, too! Pizza was delicious and our waitress was super great. So vegetarian and gluten free options are available here. Forgot to take pictures but had a great time, can't wait to go back soon. read more

The wings, drinks and atmosphere were great. The rest of the food - meh (specifically the salad: wilted spring mix with black pieces, I won't be making that mistake again). We were equally bummed with the fries and onion rings, I think they used to be beer battered and deliciously crispy several years back. We live right next to the dirty turtle, so it's convenient for us to come here all the time. Both new owners are fantastic and doing a great job to build this place into something special. As of now, the menu is a tad pricey, but I totally understand why they are. This place used to be a dive (still sort of is) so they are really cleaning up the bar scene. On the weekends, you may have to wait over an hour for food (even cheese curds) speaking from experience. Lastly, paying into the association of ODells Bay, I would always like to have gas at hand and they don't always have their tanks filled, so we have been supporting Pine Cove. Spent over $30 on a burger, fries and nachos...it was all terrible and took well over an hour. Fries were completely cold, like they had been sitting around a very long while. Chicken nachos were made with canned chicken, barely any cheese and lettuce....Kwik Trip would be a better option for food. We will not return and will not recommend. read more

I was here with my gal pal Kristin M for her bachelorette weekend. As noted in her review, we called ahead to "reserve" a table. They don't take formal reservations but confirmed we could have a table. Apparently we got beat out by a large group and our only other option was the wet picnic tables outside. There was no attempt to dry them for us. We were also told that if we wanted food to order right away since it was about an hour wait to get food. We waited outside for a bit to consider our options, and the mostly male clientele stared at our group of girls like they'd never seen girls before... It really didn't make us want to stay! Spent the day on the lake yesterday which happens to be right outside. The tiki bar is probably my favorite part. It was super hot outside n I was hoping for some relief inside the bar with some AC, but no luck. It was still hot, luckily tho the bloody marys were delicious. A bit sweet tasting at first, but tasty none the less. I personally think the best part was the shrimp. I'd go back again considering drinks were cheap. You expect sub par bar food and places like this in recent memory here on castle rock lake. Carlson's isn't quite the same as it used to be, splash is gone, most restaurants aren't as good as I remember and thats ok. Ordering a 15 dollar burger plus 1.50 for fries was a bit of a shock but again, it is what it is. When the burger came without pickles, tomato, onion or lettuce I got upset. Then the first bite, better quality can be found at any fast food chain. Just an all around disappointment. Even after a long day in the sun and water with a few cold ones in me, the food frankly sucked. For the price and with the lack of any typical burger toppings add poor quality as a kicker, this place isn't worth stopping in for food. Get off the water early and go home for dinner. After a long day of fishing and partying on the lake, We stopped at the Dirty Turtle. When you walk through the door it looks like a great place to hang out. The drinks there are great and hands down the best bloody marries that I have had in a long time. But the service and the food could use a little work. It is all self service unless you sit at the bar. After filling out our order on a piece of paper you have to walk up to the bar place your order and pay. I thought that for being a famous place on the lake that they would have a little more class. This place still looks like a great place to have a few drinks with your friends, but I would get food at the pizza place right down the road instead. read more

I just found out the owners sold the Dirty Turtle! the changes so far are disappointing. It is starting to look like a frat house, beer pong in place of the pool table and they removed the dart boards the encouraged group activates and replaced them with gambling slots!!! Seriously, if we want to go to Castle rock to play slots we need to go home or go to a casino. I hope they make better changes we have been going her for 20 years and may need to find a new place. read more

I've been here in summer, winter, and fall. Today, my husband and I stopped on our way back home in eastern WI from the Kickapoo Reserve area. This is my favorite season at The Dirty Turtle as the summer-time tiki bar is open. Service and drinks are always good, and we like getting to keep the drinking cups. Swings are attached to the bar for a really swinging good time. Emily was our server today, it was nice sitting and chatting with her. Thank you Emily for your great service! If you come in the winter it's a lot less hectic inside. The food is good and I've enjoyed some pudding shots as well as really good, non-alcoholic hot chocolate. That actually says a lot as I typically shy away from hot chocolate as so many are chalky or tasteless. So whether your in the area for fun in the sun or looking for an escape from the winter chill, The Dirty Turtle is a great place to stop. read more

This is one of our "go to" places while pontooning on Castle Rock Lake. We bring family/friends there because it is predictable. Generally quite busy on summer weekends, but food and drink service is generally reasonable. Outside seating as well as a screened porch seating make for quieter dining than the main dining area. Food is very good and drinks reasonable and even unusual! Variety is great. Quite a few dock places available at no charge make it convenient for boaters. $74 bucks wasted. Wednesday night and not busy at all. Ordered 2 pizzas and cheese curds. Took 2 hours! One pizza was burnt and sent back. Disappointing is a huge understatement. Cheese curds were good. I want to support local because I am local. Will not be back and would not recommend wasting your time for average food with excessive wait times. It was pizza. One girl was really hustling the other 4 had two speeds, slow and stop and were no help to anyone. We both ordered burgers, the Wow burger was good. We took the boat to Dirty Turtle during the week around 5pm. It was gross, it smells like a moldy basement and is so dirty. All the menus had bunked on food and grease on them, the new outdoor patio was full of dirty tables and cigarette butts. Needless to say we did not eat here I was even hesitant on getting a drink here. I think it gets crowds only because of the name. There are other places that are clean and better food. They said they normally don't but would make an exception because we were a bachelorette party. We called the day of to confirm...yup we'll have a table all ready for you. Our visit began with them going into pure panic because we shockingly arrived with 10 guests - a mixture of family (cousins, parents, grandparents). This was on a Saturday night and the entire restaurant/ bar area was barely a quarter full. Trying to remain positive, we ordered our food/drinks. After numerous rude remarks and eye rolling from the waitress we finally walked up to the bar and said we would like to work with someone else. They responded by handing us some bead necklaces for the trouble (?) The food took about 30 minutes to arrive. Everything we ordered was cooked well and tasted good. The drinks were a great addition to the meal. Overall, the staff and the blatant attitude was inexcusable. Unfortunately we were not the only people dealing with their behavior. I was really excited to pull into the Dirty Turtle and enjoy a cocktail before walking to the beach. There's plenty of parking, a great view, fully screened in patio, and a tiki hut/bar. Unfortunately, my excitement quickly dissipated when we walked into the bar itself. There was only two people sitting at the bar, yet the bartender didn't acknowledge us. My husband went straight to the bathroom and I sat down at the bar. The bartender saw me but still didn't say anything. I sat there while she refilled the drink of a woman who was talking very loud about how she was still hammered from the night before, and all the drama that had taken place at the Dirty Turtle that night. Then a guy walked in to pay for his gas that he had pumped and she proceeded to help him as well. My husband returned from the bathroom and I had still not been helped. So the two of us sat there for a few more minutes before she finally came over, hardly said anything. The drinks were fine for the price but the service sucks. And no amount of booze would be enough to listen to that woman talk about her adventures. I never did go into the bathroom but if they were anything like the bar itself, they were dirty. The bar floor had clearly not been cleaned from the night before and the whole place smelled stale. The stars are purely for their location, porch and tiki hut.
