I spent a year planning how I would look on my wedding day. Perfect makeup artist, hair stylist, nails, practice tan at shade and seeker. All that was ruined because a tech wrote the wrong color down during the trial and sprayed me way too dark. I was getting married at the jersey shore but did not want to look like the tv show. I wanted as natural as possible and I felt like my wishes were ignored when I asked repeatedly on the wedding tan day if it was the right color because I knew we had tried the lightest shade. Because of the "notes" I was assured it was. Instead of enjoying the days leading up to my wedding and the guests who were in town, I spent the days showering and crying because my tan looked so unnatural. When I called to ask what I could do, I was dismissed and an apology was refused. I was simply told "to shower twice and the color would fade." Well I showered 5 times and the color remained dark but got blotchy. I cried because there was nothing I could do to fix my skin. The person on the phone refused to admit that the tech could've written the wrong shade down, and all I was asking for was an apology and for them to take better, more diligent notes. I have photos that show the trial and how I looked the weekend of and they could not have been more different I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. I felt so sad and helpless about the color of my skin when that should've been the last thing on my mind. I will now have to forever lighten my wedding photos to make the color look lighter, I look darker than even my tannest friends. I would highly suggest brides think twice I have been a loyal customer for 3 years and referred numerous friends and coworkers but in this instance I guess they hadn't heard the customer is always right. Because of the customer service I received on the phone, I will make it my life's mission to make sure no one I know ever comes to this business. I hope the tech knows that they ruined how I looked at my wedding and I will never get that day back. Maybe it will be a lesson to take trials and notes seriously when they are dealing with very important days. That's all I can hope for since the person on the phone did not seem interested in that same advice and dismissed me completely. Ps- after a week of showers it was still too dark In response to the owner: Don't want to get into a he said she said, but couldn't handle being called a liar and defamed by the owner's response. I never threatened to have anyone fired; I asked for better notes to be taken and was ignored. I was not screaming, I was sobbing the day before my wedding and apologize if that affected my tone. I would love to hear what 'names' I said over the phone because that is also completely untrue. Melissa, you cannot see my wedding photos since my social accounts are private so please don't lie while weirdly trying to compliment me. You also did not do my trial, the same tech did both the trial and the day of. I did not say 'I had been away recently'? and did not receive an explanation that this would make the tan look darker. That conversation did not happen, and I don't know why you are compounding your lies. The only threat was to not have family and friends come, which after my experience of being called names and a liar by the owner, I don't think you can blame me. Loyal customers beware, this is how you will be treated should you not be happy with the quality of the service received. The tan was a different shade and still the owner will not acknowledge they could have made a mistake. I haven't been offered a sincere apology which is all I wanted. I really am not the type to write a negative review, especially when it involves a small business. However, I made numerous attempts to contact the staff of Shade & Seeker regarding this situation, and was ignored. Let me start off by saying I have tanned here several times, and always loved how my tan looked. I recommended you to countless friends, and genuinely enjoyed coming in to support a small, female-owned business. Last Thursday, my mom and I arrived for our pre-wedding spray tans. We were greeted by a less than welcoming woman who seemed as though we were somehow inconveniencing her by being there for our appointment. This honestly caught me off guard, because prior to this I had loved the two girls that did my tan. I received my spray tan, and went home where I followed the steps exactly as I should have. I waited the full two hours to rinse, and was horrified at what I saw. My arms had dark patches of tan all over them, and my elbows were nearly black ( I specifically told the woman that my elbows tend to pull dark, and it was evident not enough barrier cream was applied). I began to panic as I had to be the maid of honor in my sister's wedding in less than 24 hours. I called the salon, to which no one answers - there is literally no way to get an employee on the phone there. I texted the number asking someone to call me, and sent pictures to show how awful it looked. I even DROVE back there to have them see it in person, to which the salon was closed at noon...? They texted me back after awhile saying it was bronzer and to just "wipe it off". I tried all their suggestions, asked them to call me, and then was ignored when I was trying to get help. Long story short, the tan did not come off after following their advice. The photographer on the wedding day even made a point to say "that's one of the worst tans I've ever seen, I'll try to photoshop it out". Not only did it look awful for pictures, and put a damper on the day, the level of disconcern you showed for a loyal customer, and sheer lack of accountability that your salon demonstrated is pathetic. I will make it known this was my experience here, and will never recommend your services. You at the very least owed me a phone call back, and an apology for doing such an awful job. I am so disappointed in this studio, and will be taking my money to MetroTans a mile away for less money, friendlier service, a better lasting tan (and people who actually know how to answer the phone!) read more

This is a long overdue review! I have been going to Shade since soon after it opened on Ardmore Ave. Melissa and her team are amazing. I have gotten spray tans at other places and they don't compare to Shade (ie. other spray tan places don't provide barrier cream, no thought of the shape of your body and how a tan would show up, no pre or post tan care instructions). This all impacts your tan and the longevity of it and Melissa is master. The color is natural, I usually go medium and it is a gorgeous bronze color (not orange at all!). This is one of those you get what you pay for. I have never had a streaky, blotchy tan here ever. If you have your wedding, prom, special event etc. this is the place you want to go. I also just got my lashes tinted yesterday and it looks amazing and the process was quick! Aside from the actual tan being amazing, Melissa creates a warm, welcoming environment for everyone and offers a ton of other services like teeth whitening, botox, so it is truly a one-stop-shop. She is always educating herself and learning more about what is coming out of the beauty industry so I really trust her knowledge. Other awesome things about Shade - 1. you can make an appointment online 2. there is parking 3. you can tip with venmo or on a credit card (which saves you a trip to wawa for cash!). I've used Shade Sunless Tanning on three different occasions, and it never ceases to amaze me. Of course, the first time I used their business, I was totally apprehensive and nervous that my tan would develop into, "I'm a six?!" -Ross Gellar. I was completely wrong. The tan developed into a beautiful, natural-looking glow. It smelled great, too! By the third tan, I had become a pro of what to expect and how to let my tan develop. I always change into loose-fitting clothing when I get home, and I avoid laying down on one side or covering myself with blankets if I want to nap while I'm waiting for the tan to develop before washing off the bronzer. I have never had any splotches or streaks. And, most importantly, you will NOT be orange. Melissa is extremely welcoming! Everything is always clean upon arrival, and she really makes you feel comfortable during the entire (somewhat awkward) process. Everything that you need is already in the room, including makeup wipes to wash off your deodorant, disposable thongs, nose-plugs, a shower cap, and a place to put your jewelry. She does a great job of conversing with you if you seem uncomfortable at first. There are also a lot of products to purchase after (or before) your tan. Oh, and there's also a Keurig! My first tanning experience, in preparation for my wedding. Melissa was super nice and friendly. Somehow made me feel more comfortable even though I was almost entirely naked in front of a stranger. She also explained everything very clearly. Even though procedures for maintaining the tan are on the website, she made sure to go over it with me in person too. It's definitely jarring to see my normally pale self looking so tan, but everyone says it looks very natural. Came here to try out the spray tan, had never done it before and was a little worried having never had a spray tan before. Everything turned out great, the tan looked awesome and super real! Melissa is always warm and welcoming and makes you feel at ease. My past two spray tans have been great, very even color and just the right amount of bronze. Melissa really listens to what you are looking for and delivers! Also, I stopped in for a teeth whitening session and was blown away by the difference it made in just a short 15 minute session. Before going to Share Sunless, I was new to spray tanning so a little anxious my tan would turn out streaky, too dark, etc., but my worrying proved unnecessary. Since I was headed to Mexico, Melissa suggested a medium tan which came out perfectly even and the right amount of color. The cost ($60) was a little higher than I anticipated, but totally worth it - I'd rather pay a bit more for a nice, even tan that holds up than scrimp on the price and end up with something streaky that fades. The friend with whom I went to Mexico, who has gotten spray tans in NYC and SF, even agreed that my tan was better than anything she's gotten before. read more

I did a trial several weeks before my wedding (my first spray tan!) to make sure everything was perfect and that I was happy with the look (I was!). Then, the day before my wedding, I came back with my bridesmaids for the real thing. Each time, the space was welcoming and clean. Free coffee and water available is a nice touch. Melissa walked us through everything--including prep and aftercare--and answered of our questions, making sure we were totally comfortable with the process. We each did the 2-4 hour set time tan, and we looked toasty but natural on the wedding day. We felt so good--thinner, not washed out, etc. Absolutely no streaks, and no orange glow. When I got there Melissa was waiting and explained all the directions and care. I had to bring my two year old with me and she was very understanding and super sweet to him! Just went to Shade Sunless yesterday as a "trial" spray-tan for my wedding in July. The salon was well-decorated and nice. Melissa was great and made me feel at ease, answering all my questions. The look is very natural without looking to "orange-y" which I like. My only complaint would be go a little darker next time, since the look is almost too natural. Other than that it was a great experience overall. Would recommend over a tanning booth since it's more natural looking and non-streaky!! read more

When you walk into Shade Sunless Tanning, you immediately feel at home. The interior decor is beautiful and fun and the staff are so sweet and nice. I personally have never gotten a spray tan before I went to Shade Sunless but I have seen my friends get spray tans and they always came out like Cheetos. The great thing about the tans you get from Shade Sunless is you come out tan, NOT orange. The tans also come out smooth and never blotchy or streaky. The prices are very reasonable.
