I'd rate it easy to moderate because of those hills. I brought my 5-year-old, and she was able to handle it, but she did complain on the way back, so next time I probably won't bring her. The views are really nice, and there are a few smaller trails around the area. I'm definitely planning to go again. I went a bit late around 9 a.m., and the sun was already pretty strong, so going earlier would be better. Overall, I 100% recommend this hike.

The Nature Heritage Trail was pretty straightforward and easy. Was recommended by the staff on the Bobcat Trail. The Bobcat Trail wasn't hard and the view was amazing. Recommend hiking shoes if you do the Bobcat Trail. Also, recommend wearing long pants and closed toe shoes. There were narrow trails and bushes that could cut skin. There were a few picnic tables. Trails were not shaded. The Interpretive Center was small, but pretty cool as they had a very active snake on display. Overall, great place to hike. They have different trail lengths. Would come back.

The first ~0.5 miles was a bit overgrown and washed out. In addition, there was one large stream crossing with a lot of water. For this particular stream, it was somewhat ankle deep otherwise you can cross by using the logs and trees. Once you cross the railroad tracks to another part of the PCT, it becomes a steady incline / flat trail for the remaining duration of the hike. Plenty of wildflowers and views throughout the hike. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the night sky making the walk and the presentation all the more engaging. The sky was clear that night giving us a nice view of celestial objects such as the planets Venus, Mars, and Mercury along with various star constellations. My friends and I had a wonderful time. After the walk we were able to look through a couple of high powered telescopes set up by kind volunteers that allowed us to get a closer view of various stars and even neighboring galaxies All in all, an enjoyable evening out here in the high desert

These canals and tunnels and pipelines bring water 444 miles from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Southern California. The Edmund G. Brown (a former California Governor) "California Aqueduct" is the state's largest and longest water transport system It was initially sold to the public in 1960 for an estimated total cost of $1.75 billion in state bonds. This was a misleading and low-balled figure. Construction began in 1961 and though still incomplete, the total cost for the project has grown over $4.3 billion for twenty-five dams and reservoirs, eighteen pumping plants, 683 miles of aqueducts, and eight hydro-electric power plants. The aqueduct serves 35 million people and 5.7 million acres of farmland pumped along the way to overcome gravity here and there through pumping stations and some of that energy is later recovered by hydroelectric plants. For example, the Edmonston Pumping Plant raises the water 1,926 feet over the Tehachapi Mountains. Much of the aqueduct walkways and bikeways were closed after September 11, but here in Palmdale where the Pearblossom Highway crosses over, there is a parking area and a narrow fenceway opening that you can fit through. I don't know that a bicycle would make it. It's worth stopping to see this tremendous engineering feat and perhaps understand what happens before you water your lawn or fill your pool. There are 3 restroom areas along the walking path. . Lots of grassy and tree areas. The walking path is one mile around the lakes it is paved. You cannot swim or do any water stuff like boating , paddle boarding etc. in the lakes you can fish there. They allow dogs if leashed. Lots of geese , ducks , and migratory birds. Do need to be aware of snakes. Park is surrounded by desert.

Pleasant View Ridge Wilderness contains 26,839 acres of pristine California land reaching from the…read moremountains to the desert. I found out about it by accident while on the hunt for wildflowers; I entered the Wilderness from the west, via the Burkhart Trail next to Buckhorn Campground in the Angeles National Forest. This wilderness is home to several trails, including the Pacific Crest Trail and Islip Saddle, and offers some of the most stunning land I've ever seen. Please check your GPS before heading off into the wilderness; the directions on Yelp may not be 100% accurate. An actual paper map will be more accurate in this area; there is no service or signal. I parked in the Burkhart Trail parking lot and entered from there. Take your charged phone (you may still be able to call or text 911 in case of emergency),map and compass, snacks, water, and anything necessary to survive completely on your own. Look out for falling trees; this area burned not too long ago but seems to be recovering beautifully. You will be rewarded for your efforts by views of unspoiled lands, wildflowers, pine trees, waterfalls and wildlife. Absolutely stunning.
