I wish i could give Scott 5 stars but here's why i did not. before i begin, it's been over a year since i contracted him for over 350+ linear feet of fencing... I will add that he is very patient and will accommodate every request. 1) unskilled laborers 2) work to complete your project with low hours resulting in poor craftsmanship 3) BOARDS NOT LINING UP TOP OR BOTTOM 4) POOR QUALITY LUMBER (I ordered basic con common and this stuff is worse than what you can get at big franchise stores. 5) boards warped few months after install and they where good about coming out but after showing the tech a few other areas he said he only was allowed to spend x number of hours. he also shared that if i was to experience more problems, most likely they wont send anyone else out and that this was my only 1 year warranty fixer. lesson learn here; YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR read more

I wouldn't hire SG Construction again - turns out, on my job they cut corners. They installed a redwood fence and it looked great at the time, but after just a few years it is leaning, ready to fall over. Apparently they just dumped some dry concrete powder in the fencepost holes instead of pre-mixing and pouring it in. They saved a few dollars in material and labor but now I'll have a huge repair bill. I contacted their office to see if they would take care of the problem and they never called me back. I've replaced 2 other fences using other contractors on my property and they're still solid as a rock after 25+ years, but this one is failing after just 7 years. read more

He was able to get the quote back within a business day. The day of install he came to meet and do a walk through before construction. [Update: I upped my rating since the fence has not sagged anymore] I had asked Scott & his team to install a double gate in front of my house. The job was done, but the quality of the workmanship is amongst not on par compared to what I have seen. Initially there was a single gate, hence the post in the middle had to go. The concrete patch they put in is as rough and ugly looking as it gets, but to be fair Scott left me a bucket of quick concrete fix to make it smooth myself. They had not bothered to make it smooth as the original concrete around where the post was had not been smooth as well. So no "above and beyond here". Ok - fine, but would it have been much extra work to make it smooth while patching the concrete anyways? Apparently not for the price I paid (which was not the lowest estimate btw, but I had seen the other good reviews and was fooled by them). The gate started sagging on one side to the point where the two gates would touch at the top which made it difficult to close. They first did a poor job fixing it by just trimming the wood at an angle, which meant the line of the board was no longer orthogonal to the ground. In the next attempt they replaced the board, but there is still an approx. gap of one inch between the two sides of the gate where one can easily peek through into our backyard. I'm not liking it and have asked multiple times to have this addressed, so far without success. There were lots of misunderstandings between what I had wanted the gate to look like (I had showed them a picture) and what it ended up being. So be extra careful when requesting an estimate and better request a drawing from them to make sure they fully understand what exactly you're looking for. Although the owner (Scott) is nice and easy to talk to, the outcome does not justify a better rating. read more

I have had some pretty awful contractors but this company deserves their five star rating. I called a couple other fencing companies one in which never showed up on two different appointment times. I decided to use Yelp for a referral and I'm glad I did. JP came to my home and showed up on time. Right away I liked JP he has an honest face ( some of these workers even look like scam artists). JP did not try to push for more work than what was needed. My whole fence was leaning but JP suggested fixing portions as he thought I could squeeze a few more years out of the life span of my fence. JP sent me a written quote which was a very fair price. He was only $100 more than a carpenter quoted to do my gate and a split rail fence. The communication was clear with the company. They showed up on time, they were clean, professional and finished my gate and fence within one day. I also really liked that the owner Scott stopped by and came to talk to me to make sure I liked the change in plans for my gate before they did it. Turns out what the guys suggested ended up looking perfect. I love my gate and my split rail fence!!! If you need a fence or a repair don't even bother getting other quotes save yourself the hassle and call SG Construction. I finally decided to clean up the yard and put in a fence to let my dog have an area to run around. I looked at craigslist and found a couple of companies including SG Construction. The first company came out and instead of giving me an estimate, asked me "well, how much do you want to pay?" Being naive, I felt put on the spot and stupid. So when Scott came over he talked to me straight forwardly and said "we can do this or this for this amount but if someone comes in under my estimate, let me know." So I let him know when another company did so. Scott ended up being able to clean the yard and put in the fence for less than the other company AND he showed me where to look up construction companies/contractor's licenses under the California State website. It turns out that the other company's license was expired. Long story shorter - the crew were friendly and helpful and i am thrilled with the deer fence that they put in. We needed a fence built in a hurry as we live in Malaysia and were home in Walnut Creek for a 2 week visit. It was May and everybody was busy. Scott came out and took measurements.
