    My pills!
    Janay G.

Tomi was easy to work with and I received my encapsulated placenta only 4 days after giving birth! I started consuming right away and noticed more energy and never experienced any postpartum blues! My husband just texted her after I gave birth and she showed up in our hospital room at Kaiser Oakland less than 12 hours after I delivered. I HIGHLY recommend her services!

My wife's placenta pills & tincture made by Tomi.

After having a few friends get the "Baby Blues" really bad, I looked into having my wife's placenta saved so she could have it incapsulated. After reading about Tomi on her website I called her up and asked her my million obsessive compulsive questions. She was so knowledgable and so caring that I knew she was the right choice. Also, she is very affordable. I took my little ice cooler to the hospital when my wife went into labor, and after she gave birth they put the placenta in a bag and I put it in the cooler and txted Tomi whom picked it up shortly after. Just two days later she brought over the pills and 6 weeks later the tincture and print of my wife's Tree of Life when it was done. My wife has been full of positive mental and physical energy since the birth, and both me and her believe it truly is because of the placenta pills. Every animal eats their placenta after birth for a reason! No blues, just joy in our house ( except when I have to do a major diaper change). I recommend Tomi to all my pregnant friends and to those thinking of saving their placenta, she is truly a wonderful spirit that will help you.

I am disappointed…read more This review is for doula Talia, and perhaps some doula services in general. Talia seemed helpful at first and made an effort attend one of my prenatal appointments with me. She also shared a lot of useful resources. Upon her request, I provided her many ideas about what would be supportive to me. However, during labor and delivery she did not make much effort to do those things. Early in my labor she paid a visit and then went home to sleep, which I can understand at that point. But later, when we called her back, she took longer than expected to return and I didn't sense any urgency. It looked like she made time to stop at Dunkin' since she casually entered the room while sipping an iced coffee when I was pretty close to delivering. She was absent for the majority of my active labor when I would probably have benefitted from her the most. She suggested I had a precipitous labor and so it was too fast, but I did not (OB confirmed). In general, and the way the contract is written, a doula can justify not staying if it seems "too early" and can also arrive quite late in your labor. The timing has to align just right. Even after she arrived, it didn't make much of a difference having her there. She did not do any of the things we discussed (and that she offered) ahead of time to support me. She provided a few generic comments, but overall she did NOT help me speak up for my own needs/wishes and mostly just stood there. She also did not provide guidance to my partner. I'm sure there are great doulas out there and the GGDA resources are a nice perk. I think Talia was decent with resources outside of labor and delivery, but during the actual event there were many missed opportunities. Birth can be full of challenging surprises. Your doula could be one of them.

From our first meeting I felt at ease by Jen's calm presence and vast experience as both a doula and a nurse. (Coincidentally we learned Jen was a birth doula twice with our neighbors' kids too, and they assured us of their own positive experience.) My pregnancy took several unexpected twists and turns, and along the way there was no question too big or small for Jen, who'd patiently educate and encourage us to make our own informed decisions. A notable facet of my pregnancy was our baby's breech position the last month and half, when my husband and I decided to try turning him head-down through what felt like every method available. Jen provided vital support in this often stressful last stretch of pregnancy with recommendations, checkins, and referrals within the Golden Gate Doula community who could help (including a wonderful acupuncturist and chiropractor group). We went in twice for external cephalic versions (ECVs)-intensive attempts to turn baby that I felt better prepped for thanks to her guidance. She was even present for one of the procedures, during which I opted in to more intensive options I otherwise would have forgone in hopes of higher chances of success. Ultimately our little guy stayed in breech and we determined a planned C-section was safest. I was super nervous going into the surgery, and Jen helped us stay as grounded as possible by her comfort techniques, encouragement, and doses of humor at just the right moments. Her background as a UCSF pediatric nurse was especially beneficial to us as I gave birth to our son at UCSF Mission Bay, where Jen worked seamlessly with their systems and staff. I can't imagine our baby arriving as smoothly or free of complication as he did without Jen's expertise and magic touch. She's one of a kind, and we absolutely loved working with her!!

The support that she gave to my husband and I during the birth of our second baby DURING COVID is unmatched and I can't thank her enough for the beautifully positive birth experience that we had. During our pregnancy, Jen provided my husband and I with the information that we needed to make informed decisions on where we were going to deliver (we switched from CPMC to UCSF at 37 weeks) and how I was going to manage my gestational diabetes. She put me in contact with other women who had GD, which was extremely helpful to understand how the care was being managed at the hospital with COVID. She also met us in person at our home to help prepare us with techniques and equipment to labor at home. When we arrived at the hospital, Jen met us in the parking lot and escorted us in. If you've ever met Jen, you know that her presence is enough to put you at ease and instantly make you feel comfortable and taken care of. With her background, she is extremely knowledgeable on hospital procedures and decision making and walked us through each step as we were being admitted to the hospital. We ended up delivering in triage because so many babies were being born that night, but we had one of the larger and more spacious rooms all due to Jen and her experience in knowing the hospital layout and in working with the UCSF staff. We also had an unmedicated birth, which would not have been possible had Jen not coached me through each stage and gave me the strength and confidence to keep going. My recovery was quick and easy due in large part to how Jen helped me to prepare before and during labor and delivery. If you are thinking about getting a doula, look no further - get on her schedule before she fills up!

While Stork and Sprout does have some excellent doulas on its team who provided great support and coaching, my experience with the agency's leadership was overwhelmingly negative. We had a particularly difficult time with Brittany. She demonstrated a pattern of manipulation, gaslighting, and lying, both to us and, from what I understand, to her own employees. Our contract promised consistent coverage, but the scheduling was erratic and communication was poor. We were left to wonder many nights if we would have support, and for several weeks, we only received 1 to 2 days of support instead of the 6 to 7 we paid for. When we requested a refund for the services not provided, Brittany refused and even fought our bank with out-of-context emails and more lies. She claims she "offered a refund" but is even today refusing to honor it as she says in the response. The lack of professionalism extended to some of the staff as well; one sick doula was sent to our home and intentionally caused our newborn physical pain. Brittany treated us like we were the difficult ones and responded with empathy-less chatGPT emails to manage the situation. We were also led to believe we would have one primary doula with a backup, but over the course of our service, we had seven different doulas come to our home. This complete lack of continuity made an already difficult period even more stressful. Based on my experience, I would advise new parents to skip Stork and Sprout and work directly with an independent doula. You will not only save the 30-40% extra fee the agency charges for scheduling, but you will also avoid the toxic and difficult management. This experience is unacceptable for a service that costs tens of thousands of dollars and demands payment upfront months ahead of providing the service. We were not able to switch easily due to the inflexible Carrot reimbursement process through the employer.

Jen was the apprentice midwife for my home birth but she might as well have been a regularly practicing fully certified midwife because she was as much involved in my check ups and the actual labor and delivery of my baby as my main midwife , Sue Baelen (also amazing! Highly recommended!) Jen has a very calm presence, and even though she is young, it's clear that she possesses so much wisdom that it feels very natural to trust her. She has a lot of experience with birth, having started as a doula. I always felt completely safe and honored in her care, both in the visits to my house for check ups and at the birth of my son. One of the best parts of the care I got from Sue and Jen were the check ups leading up to the birth. They came to my house and it felt like a combo medical check up and therapy session! They were always curious to hear how things were going, answer any questions I had and take care of my emotional and spiritual transition to motherhood, not just the physical. I loved getting to know Jen in these sessions and it created a lot of trust and closeness. The birth was everything I hoped it would be. It was hard, of course, but I knew I could do it in great part because of the support I had with my awesome team. I felt very safe with Jen and Sue, and they gave me a lot of confidence. Another best part was the after care. Jen and Sue came to our house several times over the 6 week period after my son was born. It was so wonderful to have them here checking on us, answering questions, sharing in our joy and alleviating the inevitable worries. I hope that any future Dad reading this understands that Doulas are just as much for them as they are for their wives. (Btw, my wife is equally grateful for Jen, but just wanted to provide a different perspective, writing this from a Dad's point of view). Jen has the unique ability to take control of high-pressure situations while not offending or alienating anyone (and this is especially unique and effective given that she was dealing with someone, me, who is a super Type A, SF resident, on the cusp millennial). This demeanor really enabled constructive dialogues to occur between everyone in the delivery room (Mom, Dad, Nurse, Doctor) during multiple high-pressure situations. Jen understands that all Mom and Dad want to know are 1) what is going on, 2) what are their options, and 3) is Baby alright.
