Jay and Jude were the friendliest and most helpful of hosts. Love the farm with it's sheep herd,…read moreflowers blooming and fresh mown hay fields. Jude and I saw a deer one morning from the breakfast room. The old red barn juxtaposed with a solar panel nearby is pure Vermont. While the farm is off the main highway a mile or two, it's an easy drive to local villages and less than an hour to Montpelier. All rooms are up a narrow center staircase with a full bath in the hall. They have a spa bath on the first floor that is pictured here in Photos. A large tiled accessible shower, jetted tub, tall windows which can be opened and ample towels and supplies. Of course, breakfast was a fresh two course meal with Vermont coffee in a room with a view of the patio and gardens.

Love this place. Came here this summer on a solo motorcycle trip. It was poring rain all weekend…read moreand I soaked in the greenhouse hot tub the evening I arrived, then spent the next day curled up on a cozy couch in front of the soapstone wood stove. I enjoyed it so much that I booked the entire B & B suite for a weekend to come back with the family. The suite is three bedrooms and very affordable for a weekend get-a-way. The back wing of this old farmhouse is half cozy living room/kitchen and half modernized greenhouse. Downstairs in the updated section is a wonderful bathroom with large jacuzzi tub and walk in shower with three (yes, 3) shower heads - though the switching valve only let's you run two at a time. Plus the radiant floor tiles makes me want to just lie in the sun along with Phoenix the resident friendly cat. Upstairs are three cozy bedrooms with wonderful Vermont landscape views and lot's of books for browsing. Outside there are pastures and trails, a big old barn, sheep and a llama. When we were there in the fall the llama was just wandering around the yard as it had been fighting with the ram, so Jay just let it out to get a little breathing room. So I woke up in the morning and watched the llama on patrol around the house. Jay and Jude, like so many B & B owners (a special breed) are friendly and entertaining. They are anxious to be helpful and quick to recommend good restaurants, places to hike, and other things to do. And the breakfasts, ahh, the breakfasts... You have to stay at least two nights just so that you can get more of their good food. fresh fruit cup, maple smoked bacon, maple walnut scones, asparagus soufflé, baked apples with maple syrup, blueberry muffins, light and fluffy waffles ... I went to bed each night excited to wake up and smell whatever was cooking. None of the rooms have a private bath, but renting the whole space makes that happen. No cellular phone service (well sometimes one bar) but good wifi. Close to hiking, X country skiing, and snowmobile trails. Close to Montpelier. A couple of really nice restaurants in the area: Claire's, Positive Pie, Rainbow Sweets.

What a peaceful overnight in the hills of Montpelier. A quick drive to downtown for dinner but…read moreaway from it all. We arrived just in time to catch the sunset from the patio as well as some deers. We stayed in the Mountain View Queen that even though the bathroom is not inside the room itself, we still had a private bath right next door. With only one other room on that floor, we rarely ran into the other guests, until breakfast. Breakfast started with a yogurt parfait, followed by French Toast and bacon with delicious local Morse Farm syrup that I loved so much, I went to pick up some to bring home. After just one night, I already felt at home that before leaving, I checked out the other two options and fell in love with the Mountain View King for next time.

We wanted to leave as soon…read moreas we pulled up to the junkyard of abandoned cars, a trailer, and boats in front of the house. The interior of the house was just as bad. The owner apologized a few hours before our arrival for some boxes that were on the outside porch due to renovations. This did not begin to prepare us for the state of the home. Stuff was all over the hallways, our room was incredibly dusty, windows were filthy, and there were ladybugs all over. The owner tried telling us they are all over VT inns at this time of year. This is simply not the case. To pay $442 for one night was highway robbery. If we could have found another place to stay on short notice, we would have. There wasn't even a key to lock our room. We left as soon as possible before breakfast.

It's an actual profitable farm that raises and sells fresh raw milk, pork, vegetables, jams, maple syrup and beefalo meat (37% Buffalo) --all produced on their farm. It's a beautiful place with beautiful views and great-local- food for breakfast. Bob & Lee are excellent sources for recommendations for meals, day trips or whatever. All the rooms have their own bathrooms and are very nicely appointed. It's a great place for kids. When we were there, they had 2 golden retrievers, -mom and puppy-, several barn kittens and plenty of chickens that lay eggs where ever they feel like-so the kids had fun hunting them down. You are also 'allowed' to help with the 6 am or 5 pm 'chores' which involve feeding the pigs (btw they don't really smell like pigs can smell... a testament to the Light's keeping their environment clean) as well as helping milk their 6 doe-eyed Jersey milk cows...plus whatever else Farmer Bob can think of for you to do. If you're there on Monday you can say goodbye to pigs that are off on a 'field trip'... to come back later, in a, shall we say, different form. Highly recommended as a learning experience or just a nice time to relax. You'll probably want to turn in early though... they do have roosters.
