Before the surgery the vision in my left eye was near perfect. After the surgery I became nearsighted. Objects became very blurry within 15 feet. Also, a blood vessel was broken in my left eye. Upon office visits after the surgery I was lied to by Dr. Karlik that my vision was bad beforehand. A total falsehood. I now have to wear corrective eyewear because of his botched surgery. I was also advised by an employee of the Pgh. V.A. that a relative visited Karliks office for an eye checkup and was told that they had cataracts. After seeking a second opinion it was determined that their diagnosis was faulty. The patient did not have cataracts. Please beware of North Hills Eye Associates Karlik Ophthalmology. I had been in a car accident and having lots of visual issues and was having a ton of vestibular and convergence problems. Because I didn't hit my head in my accident, I figured I was okay, but I wasn't. Dr Rodriguez figured out that I had post concussion syndrome, and helped me find a Vision therapist to help me heal and regain normal eyesight. Since then, he asks me every visit how I am. He has my best interest in mind, and always makes sure that my sight is perfect when I leave. He is extremely friendly and is so personable, which makes my visits enjoyable. I've had some visual changes with aura due to my migraines, but he has squeezed me in to make sure everything is okay. I have diabetes, and every year he carefully examines my eye health, and I get peace of mind knowing my pressure is in a great range! His staff always greet you by name and never push you to buy anything. They are very helpful and compassionate, and their recommendation for a blue light filter coating (prevencia) for my glasses has helped my neurological pain a lot! I've always been a contact lens girl, but because they offered me this lens option last year, I wear my glasses a lot more often because they are so comfortable! They even allow you to bring in your own frames purchased outside of their practice to get lenses put in. I love that I have that option. I highly recommend Optometric Care. It's a comfortable and intimate setting where you are treated much better than the larger chain stores. Dr. Rodriguez truly cares about his patients and will take fantastic care of you!

Your appointment could be at 9 am, but you won't see your Doctor for another 90 minutes. Their glasses shop has a nice selection, but they don't really help you find a pair that fits your face. I bought a pair of glasses there my first year and they were a bit big for my face, and I had to bring them back because they kept sliding off my nose. What prompted me to return to my old Doctor though was their billing. They sub their billing out to a company called Patient Bill Help. In October, I received a text from Patient Bill Help stating I owed $63.75, which I paid online. Two days later I realized I should not have owned anything, and I have been trying to get this resolved for three months. The individual(s) that handles the billing at North Park make assumptions on eye insurance. I had a few conversations with someone local in that office where they argued with me on what my insurance covered, this is even after my insurance company explained to them that I was 100% covered for both eye and contact lenses. The conversations were, literally, "eye insurance doesn't cover both contacts and glasses" and me informing them that yes, mine does, all they have to do is scroll down their screen to see (this has been confirmed multiple times by VSP representatives. The office never scrolled further down my EOB to see I was covered for both). I am now at the point I told Patient Bill Help and my eye insurance that I would suck up my lost of $63.75 as a lesson learned. If you don't mind long waits, get you glasses elsewhere, and have "standard" or no eye insurance, this place might work out for you. If you have premium eye insurance, or are use to getting retinal scans each year (I was never offered them at North Park) I recommend going elsewhere.

She made an appt but put it in Shadyside where I can't get to, then scheduled it at Mercy on the 30th when it sounded like she said the 13th and I can't do the 30th. Then waited longer before doctor came in. Nurse brought 2 student nurses in and explained in detail what instruments and how they would be used in front of patient who was already worried about procedure. Remember the patient has limited IQ. Then took a private call on phone as, don't really care where she's having dinner. Appointment was over 3 hours long and actual time of being seen or heard was less than 30 minutes.
