Adequate eye exam. Hard sell on contact lenses even though I prefer wearing glasses. I had lenses made for my own frames. I couldn't believe the flimsy and very cheap eyeglass case provided by Lappen. I would be ashamed to give out those cases. read more

Purchasers beware! Do not shop at this store!!! 75% of their frames are discounted styles from 4+ years ago from when they bought out Optical Outlet. They are now selling those frames for much higher than retail hoping people won't notice. I bought Ray Bans last year for $302 (plus lens costs) and found out immediately after that the Ray Ban retail on those exact glasses was $178. I caution anyone to shop here, as they are scammers and offer excuses as to why the frames are so much higher. read more

I decided to try a local eye doctor for a change. What a BIG Mistake! I went to the one on Brownsville Rd, had my appointment with the doctor and picked out my glasses. I go to pick them up when ready, try them on and everything looks weird! The card they tell you to read is Not clear, it's fuzzy and the card looked more like a triangle than a rectangle! I convey my concerns and am told to wear them for a couple of days to see if I get used to them. I Can't they're Sooo Bad and hurting my eyes and giving me a headache! I call, am told to come in again and they'll check them. I have to see the doctor Again! He adjusts my prescription and they, supposedly adjust the lens measurement. Two more weeks I go back and they're Still Not Right! I have to pay for parking every time I go there! I state that I want to Return the glasses and get My money back! I gave them 2 chances and they can't seem to get it right! I'm told that I Will NOT get My money back and the doctor will keep doing it until he gets it right! Ridiculous!! I just had surgery and don't feel like going through this Forever! I have a Right to get my money back and Return an item that is NOT made correctly! I NEVER had a problem like this Anywhere else! The bigger chain stores would let me return and get my refund! They want us to Help the little guys, but they screw us over like this!! I will NEVER go back to Lappen or Any other local eye doctor after this Fiasco!! I'm sticking to the Big chains from now on. read more

Brought my sunglasses in to fix the screws. They sent it out to the service center to get them fixed and the sunglasses came back in a few days. They charged me peanuts for a great service. Everyone there is super nice and helpful. Highly recommended. read more

I found this place after visiting a few other optical shops around pittsburgh; I had a very specific request and the other shops I went to saw money before my needs, and I wasn't interested in doing business with a company that couldn't listen. I went to the optical outlet after finding their website online, and was immediately pleasantly surprised. I went in not really knowing what I wanted, but just that I needed some kind of plano lens that could help filter out fluorescent light which is a major migraine trigger for me. The woman who I presume to be the owner listened patiently and helped me decide what type of lenses to get. She talked it over with me and we decided to go with transition lenses with an anti-glare coating. Since it was my first time picking out glasses, she helped me choose frames (I have no sense of style and no idea how to pick a frame). The staff was courteous, pleasant, and very knowledgeable. Imagine my surprise when the whole experience was less than half the cost of what the last place was asking! When I went to pick up my glasses, I learned that the woman had actually spoken with an optometrist about my specific needs, and they decided to add a mild tint to my lenses free of charge! I've been wearing them for about a week now and they have been invaluable for me. When I expressed my gratitude they asked if I wouldn't mind writing a review, so here it is. Overall, my experience was extremely positive. The staff and owner here were polite, respectful, and more helpful than I could have imagined. Going in as a first-time glasses buyer with a specific (and odd) request, after experiencing unhelpful staff at other shops that wouldn't listen, I was pleasantly surprised by the help and advice given here. The staff not only listened but seemed to care about the issue I was dealing with and took time to do more research. Loved the variety of sunglasses and the price point back in the winter/early spring of 2015. Picked out a beautiful pair of Versace sunglasses. When they finally arrived, I came in to pick them up and get them sized. After about a week of wearing them, I was unhappy with the fit so I came in again for resizing. At this time, they completely ruined the acrylic by soaking them too long (or whatever the procedure is) and my new sunglasses were bubbled and ruined. After some back and forth about the fact that YES, this defect IS in fact noticeable, they finally got me out of the store by claiming they were ordering a new pair for someone else already so they'd just switch the pairs when it came in. They said they'd call when it arrived. The crappy thing on their part is that they knew I was moving out of state soon and there was a timeline. So surprise, surprise, I never got a call from them. Still waiting, almost a half year later! This epitomizes bad customer service. They made a great sale and never cared to fix a problem THEY CAUSED. Now I have a VERY expensive pair of RUINED prescription sunglasses that I never wear. read more
