I went to get my bridesmaid dress trimmed and hemmed and was calling around other tailors to have it done before I had to fly out. This place was the quickest to have it done and for a fair price! The owner was also very nice to me and explain a lot of the process as she was taking measurements and made sure it was to the length I wanted even with heels on. It's tough to find a professional and dependable tailor these days, but after beautiful alterations for four pants, five shirts, and a sportscoat, I can't imagine going anywhere else in the Cities for my tailoring. She was even willing to consult with me when I brought a few jackets in, intending to return some of them. The tailors have a great eye for detail and ask all the right questions to make sure they get the right fit for you before the alterations are made. Normally, I have Not had issues at 'Sew Biz Tailoring'. Initially I went there to have a suit tailored (my first one at Sew Biz). First the price was quoted at $120.00 dollars. I have Never paid that much before at other tailors in the area. Being in a bind, I went ahead and paid the $120.00. Today I go in and pick up the suit to find out, it needed another $43.00 dollars to trim/adjust the back. I'm looking at $163.00 dollars now to which I've NEVER been charged that! Not at men's warehouse nor by other independent tailoring services throughout the Twin Cities. I was quite disappointed as this has never happened before. I NEED the suit for a next day interview and mind you, she (the owner) had it for a week at this point. For whatever reason (the owner) she failed to inform me. I voice this to her and asked if she could do it free of charge or if she could meet me at half, $21-$22 dollars. The owner came off offended and said, "Oh well...I've never been asked that before...maybe had you said that earlier, I could have. Now I can't." CRUSHED, I gave up, sucked up the loss, and paid the $120.00 and some change. Now I have a some-what tailored suit, an interview in less than 24 hours, and I was pretty much told, "Oh well." I was visiting Minneapolis last week when the temperature plummeted to -9. Of course, the zipper on the only jacket I had with me decided to not work on one of the coldest days during my visit. To make matters worse, my planned trip included spending a great deal of time outdoors, exploring the city by foot. Obviously, I needed my -20 degree jacket to zip up, but was prepared to buy a replacement, alas, as a last resort. I found Sew Biz during my desperate search for a tailor in the immediate area. Everyone at Sew Biz was very friendly when I walked in the door and explained my plight. The owner, a friendly, knowledgeable woman, took my jacket and began working on the zipper immediately. As I waited for my jacket, I chatted with the pleasantly friendly tailor about my potential move to MN vs his impending move to Florida, which I teased him would be waaaay too hot :) The few minutes flew by and the owner was able to steam and manipulate the zipper until it worked perfectly, saving me the cost of a new jacket. I was very grateful for that! The $6.48 bill was much appreciated and I was quickly on my way to venture out in the frigid weather again. I would highly recommend this business and would give them additional stars if possible. I will bring my tailoring needs to them when I am back in Minneapolis. read more

Earlier this week my zipper fell right off of my winter jacket and I knew that I needed to get it fixed and fast with the cold blast we were projected to get this week. I hopped on Yelp to try and see if there was someone in the downtown area that I could bring my jacket into that would be willing to take a look while I was at work. I fully expected to not have my jacket for a couple days and was prepared for that, as well as preparing for a hefty price tag. The best reviews by far were for Sew Biz downtown and I happily walked myself over there today to have them take a look. I walked in and was helped immediately. There were several great things about my experience here: 1) the price to get me a new zipper was $15, which is a steal for what I was seeing online, 2) they were able to assist/replace my zipper right on the spot or I could come back, whatever was more convenient for me (which I appreciated) and 3) the lady I spoke with was super informative explaining the process to me while she checked me out. I really appreciated having the choice to wait or come back later, and I am SO happy I found Sew Biz. I have a feeling the other zipper on my coat will probably be going soon too (it's looking in rough shape right now) so I won't hesitate to return here to get it replaced. Their new location is much nicer. Unfortunately, while the location upgraded, the service has downgraded. Prices have been hiked up from previous cost as well to cover the upgraded space + new deluge of customers. Obviously they're getting much more business now due to the new location where they're more visible, as opposed to their previous location, which was quite hidden. Location, location location! That truly makes the $$$. Unfortunately I'm priced out, and I'm very disappointed with the absentminded professor service. In the middle of checking me out, the owner takes a personal phone call and makes me wait for over 10 minutes while she figured out her personal business...meanwhile there's 2 other customers waiting behind me too -one guy has to catch a flight! read more

I cannot thank or praise Sew Biz Tailoring enough for what they just did for me! (December 1, 2017). As I was packing on Tuesday for my trip from Tampa to Minneapolis for a work trip/party departing the next day, I tried on my dress that I was planning to wear to the big party on Friday night. So glad I did because I had apparently lost some weight and my dress was swimming on me. My flight left at 10:00 am the next day so I knew I was going to have to find a tailor in downtown Minneapolis to try to do a rush job to tailor my dress. During my day long travels on Wednesday I called my hotel's concierge and also did Yelp searches and both led me to Sew Biz. I called and talked with Laurine, the owner, and I explained that I was arriving in town at 3:00pm on Wednesday and needed my dress altered by 3:00 pm Friday. She said it was no problem. I go to Sew Biz about 4:00 pm Wednesday and Laurine had me measured and the dress pinned up in 30 minutes. I thought she was going to have to only take in the dress at the side hips and waist but she ended up having to also work on the front empire waist and darts at the bust. I left the store feeling pretty good about the expected outcome but I was also glad that I brought along another outfit in case Laurine's work was not satisfactory and I needed a backup. Well, that was not at all necessary because when I went to pick up my dress on Friday afternoon I tried it on and it literally fit me perfectly! It literally could not have turned out any better and it looked as if the dress had been custom made for me from scratch! I could not count the number of compliments I got on the dress that night and I felt like a million bucks! Thank you, thank you, thank you SO much Laurine for saving the day for me!
