And we weren't disappointed, even if the place doesn't at all connect with one's idea of what an Irish restaurant should be like - it felt something a concept restaurant in San Francisco's South of Market District (a.k.a "SOMA" - get it?). Anyway, Soho has a full menu of both food and drink - I went for the Blackened Chicken Bap with an ice tea (this in spite of anything and everything under the sun being on the drink menu, to my everlasting dismay I really didn't need any more alcohol at the time). Chicken was nice and juicy, with enough spicy to give me a kick. Chips were enough of a meal in of themselves. I also regretted not having room for dessert, as that menu was in itself pretty enticing... if we had planned our lunch a bit better that day I'm sure we would have had more. Facilities were spotless - going to the toilet was better than going at home. So while this eatery has more in common with a disco than a pub, it is certainly a more than decent option if you ever get 'cultured out' (as has been known to happen).

During dinner, we noticed a confederate flag had been drawn on the daily menu board to support Cajun wings. There was even a suggestion to like the photo or share it on Facebook and Instagram which is horrible. Everyone in my party was absolutely disgusted and became uncomfortable and wanted to leave. I asked for the manager and told her how inappropriate it was to have a flag that in the United States is parallel to a swastika on their board. She apologized and stated that it was the general managers idea and they had received several complaints that day. Seeing something of this nature is a bad look for Cork and Ireland. The fact that the general manager thought this was OK is very clear that the general manager probably shouldn't have a job there. SoHo, you can do better and so can the city of Cork.

There's a front bar where you can grab food, there's a back bar with a smoking area that sometimes has a DJ, and an upstairs that feels more like a proper cocktail bar - and probably more areas I've yet to explore. The food smelled delicious and I would've totally tried it had I not eaten before. I explored around a bit and ultimately hung out upstairs at the bar. The bartender that night was so friendly! We talked about everything from art to travel to politics. She was the best and made a mean cocktail. Not to mention, the entire place is decorated fantastically. It used to be an old pharmacy and ties in a lot of that history into the decor, including a bar made of old pharmacy ledgers. You could spend so much time just looking around at all the details and exploring each room. I hear it gets pretty lively here on weekends, especially with the college kids, but this particular Monday night was fairly quiet. I would definitely return if I'm ever in Cork again!

Not only is it a good place to enjoy a pint, but it's also a good location for a cup of coffee and chilling with friends during the day (or late into the evening). It really seems more like a comfortable lounge than a bar. Nice leather couches circle the walls with plenty of table space to hang out and converse with groups. Cool Motown style music from the 60's is piped in over the speakers, but it's not overwhelmingly loud as to where you can't have a good conversation and hangout. They have an upstairs area that offers live music or comedy on a rotating basis. We were there too early for that to start, and couldn't get in, so I can't comment on that aspect of the venue. Five stars for this place if we didn't have to walk through the crowd of smokers on the sidewalk patio before entering the front door. Minus half a star for that, so this is actually a 4.5 star joint. Love it, and really enjoyed it! If I had to describe this place in one word, it would be "CHILL".

One of the bartenders barged through us with partially empty glasses and in putting them on the bar smashed a glass on the bar showering us with glass, She also spilled drink over two of us and walked away without even a comment. When I called her attention to this she verbally abused me and told me to F**k off and drink someplace else if I wasn't happy, no apology whatsoever for what she had done, we were totally shocked by her attitude as were other customers in our vicinity who were also showered with glass and drink near us, When I then told her this was not acceptable she called security / doorman who I assume was supposed to eject us. Speaking to him I said all we wanted was an apology for her conduct (he said that would not happen) I will have to say he was most curteous and acommodating but told us that we would have to leave because of the conduct of the Bartender , Her name is apparently Sonia but this may be wrong as I was told this by the Security man.
