My family and I visited Bruff on our way from Ennis to Bantry. We saw an ad for Clancy's and decided to drop in. What a great decision! The food was delicious and the beer was even better. Best of all, Mr Clancy himself regaled us with tales of the history of Bruff and the pub, all of which were thoroughly delightful! My husband and I stayed a short walk down the street from Clancy's at the Old Bank B&B. We had dinner at Clancy's our first night in town by recommendation of our hostess. My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed it! The pub is exactly what you picture an Irish pub to be. I ordered the steak sandwich which was served on a ciabatta roll with two tasty sauces (one was a mayo and the other I believe a sweet mustard). It was served with fries and coleslaw. The portion size was good and I left feeling rather full. . . probably because I ate every last bite! It was a great meal! We enjoyed the fact that it was a place where even the locals go to hang out (not a tourist trap) and we felt very welcome. I would definitely recommend to anyone passing through! I visited Bruff and had dinner at Clancy's. As an American tourist, I ordered what I deemed to be the seemingly most Irish item on the menu - cabbage and bacon with potatoes. The cabbage was flavorful, the bacon seemed more like ham than bacon but was still tasty, and the potatoes were good. The locals filled the place up, and the ambience was perfect. Service was excellent, but remember to go up to the bar to pay for your meal. read more

Too bad I can't give less than one star. We were hungry tourists, passing through Bruff with a pocket full of euros. We just wanted to have a nice lunch and grab a cup of coffee. Being international tourists, we also wanted to use the wifi, which was advertised as free upon entrance to the pub. A woman gave us a lunch menu and headed for the kitchen area. The pub was a darling little place, dark, wooden tables and a homey feel. We liked it so far. In looking at the menu, we found a few sandwiches we would like to try. (Upon our entrance, the woman asked us if we wanted breakfast or lunch and when we told her lunch, she gave us that particular menu.) I asked her for the wifi password, which seemed to make her nervous, appearing that she did not know it. Shortly after, an older, heavy set man arrived. She asked him to give us the password -- which he hesitated to do, first asking us what we intended to order. It was as though he thought we were there to scam his wifi. We felt like we were being seen as thieves! I told him we would like to start with some coffees and have sandwiches. He told me that they were not serving sandwiches for an hour (it was noon) and told me he would give me the wifi pass code when I ordered my food. I will say, that this is THE ONLY time anyone in Ireland has EVER treated me rudely. I've visited this country three times now, and have always enjoyed the company and kindness of the locals. I would warn tourists to stay away from this location as there is clearly some issue taken with foreigners. Needless to say, we went elsewhere for lunch and spent 40+€ to enjoy good food, drinks, and most of all good service and company. read more

We were at Clancys pub on Saturday afternoon january 3rd. We stopped in (11 of us) the bar was full as there was a wedding group in for sandwiches.. But the waitress spotted us at the door and quickly relieved us of any fear of not finding a table. She brought us upstairs. she efficiently and with good humour took our drinks order and food order. As we had two elderly parents who had difficulty deciding what to eat she was so kind and patient and helped them with the menu. I was most impressed by her as a warm, welcoming face who took good care of our group. The food was delicious and served very promptly. I wish I could remember her name (Blonde haired in her 20s). I left her a large tip as she made our trip to Bruff all the more special and I always appreciate when people treat eldelry folk with kindness and respect. The waitress would be an asset in any establishment serving the general public as she has that special touch that doesn't come from training but from within. read more
