I don't usually write a review unless I have had an outstanding or exceptionally poor experience I would like to share or warn others. We had driven past this winery many times but had never stopped. Today we thought we would stop by few wineries on our way back to Osoyoos from Keremeos. This place looked quaint, in the country with nice grounds. When we arrived the hostess asked if we were interested in a tour of the grounds for $30. We did not have a lot of time and said maybe next time but would love to sample their wines. Their samplings were limited to a rose', a white, and 3 light reds. As I prefer bold reds, I asked about sampling an equally priced cabernet sauvignon and a syrah, however the hostess commented they did not allow sampling of those wines but we could purchase them - wait a minute, I am at a wine tasting am I not, purchase without tasting? This was the first turnoff. While I was sampling, a customer came in to return a bottle of red that was purchased the evening before along with other wines and this one was spoiled. The winemaker smelled the contents in the bottle and commented how surprised he was that this happened and it was very rare. He replaced the bottle and said he was sorry. Now, for someone that made a drive back to this country winery to return a bad bottle, I would have thought the winemaker would have offered a free bottle, geese maybe even a case if this is so rare. This was the second turnoff and a sign of things to come. As we were paying for a bottle of rose' the hostess added a $10 tasting fee - I have been to many wineries, I generally buy 2-3 bottles if the wines are good and fairly priced, I belong to a couple of wine clubs, and never in my experience have I ever had to pay a tasting fee when buying a bottle of wine. The winemaker rather than trying to win a good customer, foolishly tried to defend the practice stating this was a common practice, other wineries charge more, and that the hostess would have explained the tasting fee was only waived if one purchased the higher priced bottles. With this third turnoff, I let the winemaker know this policy was not only untypical but wrong, and I left only paying the tasting fee as I was no longer interested in the wine or the winery. Don't waste your time with this winery, we found plenty of others in the area that were far more welcoming, had great wines at a fair price, and were fun to deal with. read more
