We ordered both Double Cooked Pork and Ma Po Tofu, and found both to be very good versions of the dishes. When asking for spicy they did deliver respectably spicy food, there was plenty of sichuan peppercorn, and the mapo tofu was appropriately soft. If you're looking for solid authentic sichuan in Cambridge, I'd definitely recommend Seven Days. read more

Being spoiled by the Chinese cuisine of Toronto, this place happens to have the best 回锅肉 or cooked twice meat I have ever tasted. What's special about it is that the dish contains some fried crispy dough with the meat. This addition happens to enhance the favor of the dish to a whole other level. For those who enjoy authetic chinese food, this is the place to be in Cambridge. Every Chinese student I have asked for restaurant recommendations referred me to Seven days. As a westerner not used to seeing chicken feet or pig ears on the menu - I was a bit taken a back at first instance, but there are plenty of dishes that do not contain - what is in my opinion - unsavory items. It also serves all you can eat buffets, but like many other chinese restaurants in UK, your choice is limited to some meat and whole lot of fried stuff, prawn crackers, spring roll etc. On a minor note, I was told that Stephen Hawking celebrated his birthday here - and surely if it is good enough for him, it's good enough for everyone. Their pork hork is a must-try and is quite different from German ones. Frogs are also well cooked. Big plate chicken noodle has nice sauce but bad noodle texture. Hawking potatoes is just soso. Student ID gives you discount if you pay by cash. read more

We were steered here by two recommendations from people with good taste. Everything we had was good and I think there are dishes here that are fantastic. My favourites were hot and sour soup (I eat this whenever I have Chinese) and I rate it very good. The best dish on our table was the baby cuttlefish in black bean sauce. Everyone liked the 'squirrel' - a funky presentation of a sweet and sour fish, saying the sauce did not overwhelm the fish. I don't do sweet and sour so can't vouch. Great Szechuan food! Bold, flavorful, spicy dishes done right. The menu is filled with several authentic and interesting choices, and most of them pack on lots of heat from the abundant use of chili peppers. Be sure to order the fish fillets in chili oil. It's an outstanding dish, and a small is enough to feed 3 people. There hasn't been one dish that I've been unhappy with here, and I've tried several. Don't be scared of the more adventurous dishes such as ox tripe or chicken liver, they don't disappoint! The food can be a little bit on the oily side, but it really brings out the flavor of the chilies. I've noticed that most of the Chinese restaurants in England charge for each bowl of rice. This is new to me, because in the US, complimentary rice accompanies the meal. I can get over the 2 pounds for a bowl of rice, but I don't understand why there is a charge for tap water? However, I would advise not to skimp on the rice and water because three bites into one of the spicy dishes, I had already guzzled down a glass of water! The food is reasonably priced and the portions generous though, so no complaints. As far as the service goes, I have only gone for lunch right when it opens, so the service has been fast and exceptional. I've walked past on Friday nights and the restaurant is absolutely packed. Not sure if they take reservations, but I would definitely try to if I was headed there on a busy night. Skip the buffet, order off the menu! Ive been here now 4 times, three times downstairs for the 'normal restaurant', and once upstairs for the hot pot. OMG, the hot pot, is seriously, amazing. It also helps that I went with my family, and as we're all mandarin speaking, same as the waitresses, waitors and restaurant staff, it was easy to ask for exactly what we wanted, in terms of particular flavourings etc. downstairs is like any normal restaurant, except the food is really authentic, but be warned- it is mainly spicy hot!!! please note the chilli signs, as they are not kidding!! if you try to ask for mild, they dont like it! all in all, very authentic, and i am chinese myself! read more

Excellent Chinese food in Cambridge. They can get very busy on the weekend evenings, so plan in advance if you want hotpot for a larger group. I've never had a bad dish here, but particularly good are the spicy hotpot, Sichuan noodle soup, minced pork cold noodles, and chili cabbage. Order family style to try more! read more

The food is excellent, probably the best Chinese in the city. Very authentic, massive selection of dishes, and particularly good Sichuan specialties. My favourite is the Mao Xue Wang, a big spicy sichuan stew with all sorts of tasty meats, but I also strongly recommend the Ma Po Tofu, the Chairman Mao Spicy Pork, the black bean fried spicy fish... hell, pretty much the whole menu is great. If you want something cheap and filling, try the dandan noodles or the old beijing noodles. Plus, many dishes can be made vegetarian on request! The only reason they don't get five stars is that the ambience isn't brilliant. The room can be quite echoey, the decor is a bit odd, and the chairs are not particularly comfortable. Going *just by the food*, they're one of my favourite restaurants. read more

We ran into this place and surprisingly found the food quality is pleasantly good even by China's standard. The location is very convenient for visitors and locals. I only went here for the lunch buffet, so I can only speak to that. At 7.95 euros, it's a pretty good deal, but it isn't much else. Some tasty-but-very-greasy meat dishes and not too many veggie dishes at all. The dishes were definitely more authentic and legit than the typical Chinese buffet, so I'll give them that, but this really isn't the lunch deal you want to buy into unless you're craving greasy meat. From the other reviews, it sounds like ordering from their typical menu may be a better bet! read more

Very surprised on decent Chinese food during our one day visit in Cambridge. Both me and my husband were sick from the cold weather and decided a hot Chinese soup can cure our cold. The food is great but just a tap too salty. The staff is helpful and gave good recommendations. The food is spicy but at the tolerated spiciness. Great place! Very authentic and shareable with a group. There were nine of us and we ordered eight entrees to share and a few appetizers. Nobody left hungry (in fact, we had leftovers), and it ended up being about £27 per person with apps and drinks. The service was decent; they split our check, brought food out promptly, and overall took good care of us. The waiter struggled quite a bit to understand my American accent. I'll be back. read more

The food at Seven Days is very, very salty. There were actual salt stains on the meat and chilis. It was unlike any sort of usual cooking salt I've tasted before. It took me days to recover from the saltiness the few times I eaten there. Also, both me and my friend ate there on several occasion, twice together and, my friend has gone with work groups additional times. Every time me or my friend eat there we get explosive diarrhea immediately after! Sorry for the graphic detail but you should be aware of this before choosing to eat there. We've both joked that it takes about Seven Days to recover from a general feeling of being unwell after one meal at Seven Day! The restaurant itself is grimy, the service is inattentive. Look out for bone shards in some dishes. I get it that dishes with bone in are authentic but the meat should be butchered in a safer way. Bone shards aren't good for anybody. read more
