A friend and I stayed at Craigpark on our way north and really enjoyed our visit. We found Thomas…read moreto be an excellent and gracious host. The house was decorated really charmingly for Christmas which added to the feel of staying in someone's old Victorian home. Our room and bathroom were basic but quite clean and just what we needed. The B&B is in a great location, close to the city centre (just a few minutes drive or 15-20 minutes walking), but is tucked away on a quiet and private street. We enjoyed chatting with Thomas throughout our stay and he gave us some helpful tips on how to avoid holiday traffic and bad weather that we were heading towards! He was kind and welcoming, and getting to know the proprietor like this is one of the reasons I prefer independent B&Bs over chain hotels. If you're looking for luxury, you'd probably be happier at a big hotel in the city, but if you're looking for a comfortable place with a personal experience, I recommend Craigpark.

Thomas would not refund me the $240 for my three day reservation. A dishonorable fool of the worst kind. Save yourself the time and money. Go with a hotel that cares for it's customer.

It is also well-situated for accessing downtown Glascow. Unfortunately the toilet did not work well in our room (#4). The owner admitted that the toilet had been malfunctioning for some time and said that it could not be fixed during our stay; consequently, it was suggested that I use the public bathroom across the hall. The guest house manager offered to reduce the cost of the room to make up for the inconvenience of having to leave the privacy of my room for the hallway bathroom. Unfortunately, the inn's owner, at the time of our stay, did not honor the concession. When I contacted him about the matter, via email, he offered gibberish. I understand that the inn was sold after our stay and is under new management.

The bathrooms are shared, but there are enough of them that it was never an issue where I had to wait. All in all, an excellent value. Utterly adorable breakfast room overlooking Kelvingrove park tennis courts. Nice breakfast spread with bacon, eggs, croissants, fruit, yoghurt, toast, juice, and more. In addition to a DVD collection that you can borrow and enjoy in your private rooms, there is a laptop for free email/internet that you can use during the day. A fat, happy kitty cat welcomes your pets when you come in from your day in Glasgow. That makes me feel at home! A huge thank you to Steve, who went out of his way to help us with a variety of needs. He really goes above and beyond to make sure his guests are happy and comfortable. I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Glasgow.

The Less-than-Good: - A shower that had a) barely found lukewarm (let alone hot), and b) was about as powerful as a sloth taking a piss. - Wi-fi only available in the breakfast room. - Wi-fi seemingly not available at all on laptops. - No TV remote. - A fire alarm that goes off at 5am 3 out of 6 nights (50% of the time, it works everytime!) - Need to leave your key at reception whenever you leave, meaning a lenghty wait for it back if the receptionist has taken a walk or there are other folk checking in. - 30% of plug sockets out of order. A decent price for anyone spending a night in the city, but for stays any longer than a couple of nights, invest a little more. Not really worth paying for everything that was wrong with it.

HOWEVER, the room-maximum rule is STRICTLY enforced. We were trying to fit 7 people into the 5-person suite and through the whole process with getting the key from reception each time we were found out (even though it was a different person at reception, so they must keep note of who the guests are when they check in). We were told the extra people could not stay so we had to find extra accommodations on a weekend in Glasgow where literally every hostel was booked. This is forgivable, because I'm sure they have lots of people trying to fit as many people into the cheap rooms in order to save money. In all other aspects, they were extremely hospitable: they allowed us to check in early and keep our luggage in the building after we checked out. It would have just been nice to know how strict they are on the room occupancy beforehand.
