It was important that we were comfortable for our extended two week stay and had space to entertain our large, local Scottish family. 34 Harling Drive was perfect! The home has a beautiful, tasteful, light decor with a large living room with big screen plasma TV, huge eat-in kitchen, and beautiful outdoor garden and deck. One bedroom is down with small en-suite shower, two upstairs - one en-suite/shower and an additional large hall bathroom with full tub to service the third bedroom. You will also enjoy central heating, but...... there is no air conditioning or ceiling fans, so Americans might find it a bit hot and stuffy, even when it's cool outside. It's typical not to find AC in homes, or anywhere in Scotland for that matter, and you will be hot & clammy indoors, but you can certainly open up the windows at home. Just be forewarned that the lack of ability to "move" the air around can be somewhat challenging and no screens on the windows will allow spiders to visit. Also worth mentioning... this is what is known as a "self-catering" facility and that means you will need to supply all staples, even the salt & pepper. A visit or two to Morrison's local supermarket will help you to set up home and there are additional convenience stores nearby with fresh rolls for breakfast - this is a type of dinner roll, usually paired with a "slice" of meat similar to a large sausage patty. Oh, and be sure to buy some "instant" coffee - you won't often see a coffee pot in Scotland either - a cup of tea, love? Seriously, the home has a wonderful, relaxing view of the local golf course and is located within a friendly, prestigious, walkable Troon neighborhood. So, if you want to live like a local in this quiet, retirement community - 34 Harling Drive is the home for you!

A word of caution when attempting to book this property - the price you are quoted in writing may…read morenot be the amount actually charged. I recently made an enquiry, by phone, to ask whether dogs were welcome at this property (although actually it turns out the only phone number given is not to be used for bookings - house emergencies only!) I told the property owner my dog is crated when in a rented property and she agreed this would be fine. Over the next couple of days several emails were exchanged to establish price and availability - eventually a price of £295 was quoted for a two night stay (the price quoted was higher than a nightly rate to cover their 'fixed costs') together with a refundable deposit of £150 to cover damages. I checked dates with the rest of my family and accepted their price by email same day, quoting the dates we wanted to stay and asking how they wanted me to proceed with the booking. Two days, two emails and a phone call later to the number where nobody can help you unless you have a leak!! I eventually received a reply to say the price was now £295, £150 deposit and £50!!! charge for my dog to cover cleaning costs - bearing in mind they would already be holding £150 to cover any excess cleaning should it be required and they had already quoted me £295 to cover their fixed costs ie cleaning I declined their request to pay £495 into their account for a couple of nights in Troon!!! All in all it took eleven emails between us and four days to reach this point (at no stage prior to the final booking email was £50 for a dog mentioned!!) I can't actually comment on the state of the property itself as I never managed to make it through their booking system and get them to stick to the price agreed - good luck to anyone else who tries!!
