This spot is not bad for pizza. I am from NJ so unfortunately I am biased. I think it is decent if you are craving a slice of pizza, but the crust could be better. It is definitely a good spot for a quick slice of pizza.

This review is more for the wings than anything else. I love that their serving of a slice of pizza is equivalent to TWO of the standard pizza shop's single slice serving size. Spectacular bc I usually need 2 slices to satisfy this big boy hunger. The wings used to be good here. I'd get the Serrano Special and would be a happy camper. But a few days ago...I got an order of buffalo wings and was SUUUUPER disappointed. How do you ruin wings? I tell you how. They're supposed to have sauce. Buffalo wings have buffalo sauce. So what happened? We get home and open our to go tray to find what looked like bland ass baked wings with only a tinge of orange coloring and a tiny little spice

Note that I did not try their pizza but their pasta since I was craving that. Perhaps that was my mistake since it's Serrano's Pizza, not Serrano's Pasta. It came with garlic bread, which was appreciated. The garlic bread was the standout: crispy, warm, and flavorful. I even thought about asking for another one. The lasagna was just alright. It wasn't the worst I've had, but it's not something I would think about coming back for. It was swimming in oil/sauce. It was $16, which is steep for lasagna that unfortunately tastes like something you get from the frozen aisle at the grocery store. Their sauce, while it said was made in house, just tasted like something out of a jar. I also wish they put a bit more cheese in between the pasta layers. The food also took awhile to come out - like 20-30 min. There's no table service - more of a takeout place with a few seats on the side if you're looking for that.

Ordered a slice of pepperoni and apparently it's made to order slices. After waiting a bit I received a huge personal slice pizza. Nice, hot and tasty. Here's the kicker...only $8.00!

Came here for a late night slice since it was right across the street from our parking garage. I was pretty shocked to see that a slice of pizza was $10, that was until I saw just how big those slices were. Each slice was actually cut into two - making it much easier to eat! The picture doesn't really do it justice, but take my word, they were big! I would say they were similar to the size of a pizza my heart slice, but bigger, more doughy, and way more toppings - so much more filling. We had to wait about 10 minutes for them to be ready, but the pizza came out piping hot. We ended up taking it to go, driving about 20 minutes, and the pizza was still warm when we got home. I got the chef's pizza and my bf the pepperoni and we were both happy with our choices. Don't see myself going out of the way for this pizza but would definitely get it again if I'm in the area looking for some drunchies or a late night bite!

Two slices (from left to right): one slice of Serrano's, one slice of Americana; $25 after taxes.

Serranos Pizza is one of the best establishments and, perhaps, a once best kept secret among those that lived in the Mission District throughout the late 1990s, and the early aughts (you know, before self-righteous hipsters moved in and started yet another JavaScript/CoffeeScript/TypeScript framework for the umpteenth time). The most amazing about the pizza made here is the bread, the sauce, and the cheese. Just the right amount to harken back to the almost saltless Mr. Pizza Man pie from yesteryear and with just the right amount of sweet coming from the sauce, makes for the tee up for the cheese and toppings (the pepperoni and salami are excellent). And it's perhaps why, back in the day, a friend of mine would order a large pepperoni and mushroom pizza and kept it on for a week, slowly snacking on the pie because, according to him, two slices and a simple green salad was enough for him to enjoy Serrano's pies slowly. Now if you live in the Mission District, the delivery service is impeccable: you'll find that they arrive very quickly almost within a short period of time (it's obviously proportional to how much toppings you've ordered - typical of most pizzeria delivery timings). But if you're out of the Mission District I would advise ordering ahead of time, pick up your pie, and be on your way; to wit: reheating instructions: set toaster oven or proper kitchen oven to 400°F, place a slice on aluminum paper, and set it for 5, 7 min or to taste. If you are dining in, unfortunately, you won't be able to sit outside although they still offer tables and chairs sometimes but you're going to find yourself standing when eating or sitting on a stool. This is because although the setting is comfortable in that "urban grit" manner that for anyone from, say, New York city, is going to be familiar with, it'll be unfortunate for those looking for the "casual Parisian" dining experience; I'm sorry to say, but you're not going to find it here; but despite this, it is not a negative as the pizza makes up for it in spades, I guarantee it. Overall this establishment was always one of the so-called "hole-in-the-walls" that complimented the loose constellation of cantons that pepper the Mission district that featured their own small, and unfortunately ephemeral at times, bistros of various styles of cooking that go from simple to haute with a few steps and turns of corners. Bon appetite.

Pizza in the Mission. Go for Serrano's for a by the slice or the whole pie! I just got a classic pepperoni by the slice this time around. The past few times I went for combos and got delivery. The slice was mind boggling for being a single slice. I had to split mine into two and take a box to go ($1 box fee if you buy only a slice &/or drink). I was satisfied, super cheesy and hot fresh out of the oven. Doesn't get much better than that to top off a hilly bike ride in SF! Seriously check out Serrano's you won't be disappointed!

Amelia made everything super easy from the start: she sent a menu survey ahead of time, was really accommodating with a time and headcount change, and was overall just great to work with. The dinner itself was amazing. The space feels semi-private (tucked behind the pasta case), which made it perfect for our group of 9. The table itself was gorgeously set with candles, flowers, and all the little details that made it feel really special. They even customized the menus to say "Happy Birthday Taylor," which was such a fun touch. The food was incredible, and there was SO much of it, no one left hungry. The wine was flowing, the vibes were perfect, and our servers were great. It felt special without being stuffy at all. They also sent us home with fresh pasta, which was the cherry on top. Everyone had the best time, and I would 100% do this again. Heads up, this is only available at the Mission location. I saw a "pasta lab" sign and thought - that may or may not be authentic, never heard of that before. When my fettuccini pasta arrived I thought - it definitely looks authentic - heathy yellow pasta color. The first bite was an official confirmation that their pasta is freshly made, the sauce was amazing and the Parmesan was top-notch. This restaurant does not try to cut corners on lower quality inexpensive ingredients. This was one of the best fettuccini plates I had in SF. The only regret? I ate too quickly because I was on a rush. I wish I had more time to savor the flavors. Highly recommended and I will be running (not walking) back.

When the dish landed, I was initially impressed. But after the first bite, it felt a bit like the Wizard of Oz: impressive presentation hiding something less substantial underneath. Their lasagna is a sort of deconstructionist take on the classic dish. The noodles are cooked and layered almost naked between barely any pockets of filling. There were a few tidbits of meat, maybe sauce and no cheese within the layers themselves. The noodles are then baked, cut, plated, and topped with what I'd guess was about a 6 oz ladle of their bolognese, finished with finely pre-grated parmesan. The first bite was overwhelmingly pasta-forward. It took me a moment to understand how the dish had been assembled against my expectations. Once I cut into it and spread everything out, it became clear this wasn't the kind of lasagna I think of when ordering lasagna. It didn't check the familiar boxes - a rich ragù, maybe a creamy béchamel, or the sharp, salty depth of cheeses layered throughout. The dish lacked the complexity and savory comfort I was craving and expecting. Another miss was the homemade flatbread (which I went back and paid cash for, so it wasn't included in the total). Traditional Italian flatbread is a yeast-free bread made with flour, olive oil or lard, salt, and water or milk, then rolled thin and cooked until crisp yet chewy. This version tasted like flour, lard, and water. It wasn't crisp or chewy. As soon as I started chewing, it turned into an unappetizing doughy mass in my mouth. After the first quarter-piece, I didn't eat anymore. As for everything else, I arrived around 7:15 on a Saturday night, and the inside was packed with a small line to the door. The outdoor tables weren't full, but it was summer in San Francisco, more people were jockeying for seats inside than out. But I wasn't too concerned and I got there around 7, so all that is on me. There were a few specials written on a chalkboard, and the cashier was awesome while explaining those. They were incredibly patient. I apologized for holding up the line, and in a very Italian way, they assured me it was my right to make sure I ordered exactly what I wanted. That interaction honestly stood out as one of the better parts of the experience. I grabbed a table just as one opened up, helped myself to water a few times from the station, and my food arrived in about 20 minutes which wasn't bad considering how busy they were. There's been a bit of internal conflict with this review. I usually don't like judging a restaurant based on a single dish, especially a restaurant with so many positive reviews. But I also don't spend as much time in that part of the city anymore, and there are simply too many other places I still want to try. Unfortunately, while there was some good-looking food on other tables, if a restaurant's claim of lasagna as its signature dish doesn't hold up, the first visit just didn't do enough to pull me back for a second chance.
