Red sangria in a HUGE glass
Kristen A.

Went here on a Saturday. Only 2 other tables in the dining area w/2 people at each tab& maybe 2 others at the bar. Our server was a lovely girl; very friendly. She was prompt & checked on us frequently. However, the food took forever to come out...almost 45 minutes. And, it didn't all come out at the same time. It was quite frustrating. Hubby & I were really excited to try this place. Being of Portuguese descent, we are tough critics as you can imagine. Most of the food was good. Steaks were cooked well. My codfish was great. The soup & the sauce on the streaks, though, both needed more seasoning; they lacked any type of depth, which was disappointing. We're definitely willing to give it another shot as they could have just had an off day. Heard they have a buffet on the weekends: sounds like a great opportunity to sample other dishes on the menu. ---------------------------------------- Updated review: Redemption! Went here a couple of days ago. Food was fantastic! I had the beef a Portuguesa & a calde verde, both awesome. Service improved as well. Didn't wait nearly as long as before. If they keep this up, this place will be on our regular rotation. Oh, and check out my picture of the sangria I ordered...now THAT'S a glass!

Bob C.

I've been by this restaurant so many times but never went in. I love Portuguese food and this place is so close to me. I had the garlic steak with fries and Spanish rice. Everything was cook to perfection. The cook came out and shook my hand and the waitress was very attentive. Felt welcome as soon as a came into the place. Looking forward to going back.

I found La Familia on a local newspaper and wanted to give it a try. Tonight was the night and we…read moreboth agreed that it was pretty good but not somewhere I'd rush back to. The restaurant itself has plenty of parking (and plenty of entrances). We went on a Tuesday night and had no wait for a booth. We were then sat and offered some complimentary bread and oil. I liked the bread- it was nice and crispy but not break your teeth hard. The oil was a little bland but free is for me. Our waiter was fine- not the most attentive but he got the job done. I ordered the chicken Rossini and my significant other had the chicken genovese. I really liked the Rossini. The price was fair for the amount of food you were given and the white wine sauce was very flavorful. I'd recommend this dish. What I wouldn't recommend is my partner's genovese. The dish had what looked like a quarter of a cup of oil at the bottom. I know it's pesto but no one realistically wants that much oil. Overall, did La Familia blow me away? No. But id consider giving it another shot at some point down the line.

1st time here. It's beautiful inside. They have their own parking lot. Seating is very size…read morefriendly, and it accommodates large groups well. They also have a wheelchair ramp, so it's accessible. Service was good. Food: I wish the oil for the bread didn't just tasted like olive oil. my pesto pasta had ENTIRELY too much oil, pictured in review, like literally drowning in it. Shrimp special was good. Mocktail was one note, but I like that they offer it. Did not get dessert. I would go back and try something else on the menu.

When dining in I'd highly recommend trying the steamed littlenecks--once you finish the clams, keep the sauce for dipping the complementary bread in! Bife A Case is my family's go-to entree, always ordered medium rare and with round potato fries. I'm sure you can't go wrong with any other entrees, but the opportunity cost is too high for me to try them--we eat here about once a month, and the order's always 4x Bife A Casa plus a couple apps. There's no bar seating, but they do serve alcohol including a number of red and white wines, and a few specialty cocktails.

The owner asked if she could bring us out drinks and never came back to get our drink order. I understand that some family owned restaurants have favorite regulars and give preferential treatment to certain guests. And I also understand that on busy nights (especially when World Cup futbol is on) things can get overlooked and forgotten. But this was a very disappointing experience and we will go to other Portuguese restaurants in the future. It's not a great feeling when you are made to feel not as important, at a restaurant that claims to pride itself on making you feel like family. The Lima's

A friend and I came in and put our names on the waitlist, waited for about 45 minutes at a bar down the street, and then had some of the most fulfilling tapas ever! We got a Prosciutto & Salpicao board, the Queijo de Cabra, and Frijol Dip. I also got a nice portuguese red wine that paired well with some of the cheese we received. We sat in a very sweet and cozy nook and enjoyed every minute! I will be back when it's warm out and the front patio is open!

My friend and I came here on Father's Day expecting it to be packed, which it was, but there were…read morestill a few tables available, both inside and outside. At their front patio, they had the World Cup game playing, but the back patio felt cozier so we opted for that. The inside though was a strong second since the lighting is very low, creating a cool and calm environment. Walking through the restaurant to get to our table made me realize that each table is unique, no two are decorated the same or have the same furniture. It was a hot day but the overhead mesh cover blocked out a lot of the sun. Our waitress made us feel very welcome from the start and told us about their drink and food specials. My friend ordered Guatemalan beer as well as a Spanish beer. For food, we ordered the plantain fries, octopus, calamari, and shrimp salad, and grilled lamp chops. The seafood salad came out first. According to the menu, it was going to be paired with cornbread. It looked like sourdough bread but had a far denser consistency. I was expecting the salad to have lots of shrimp to act as a filler but surprisingly, it was about 60% octopus, 25% calamari, 10% shrimp, and 5% onions. The seafood was very flavorful, tasted fresh, and cooked perfectly. The portion size was great for two. Next came the plantain fries, which I was least impressed with as it was essentially fried plantain chunks. I think it would have been better if they were cut into smaller pieces that can be easily dipped and consumed in one bite. The plantain was gently ripe, so just a little sweet and the dipping sauce was like a less sour sour cream. Lastly, the lamp chops came out and the presentation was wonderful. They were a bit skinnier and less tender than that I was expecting, but flavor wise they were good. We enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service here.
