From the stress and also from me not taking good care of myself and following the skin routine Irina always reminds me to do. This was right before my wedding too so having all my acne come back added to the stress. I also developed a lot of back acne and my wedding dress was strapless. I texted Irina about my back before I had my scheduled appointment and Irina was able to move my appointment earlier so then she could spend more time on me and fix my back. Irina helped me do a lot of extractions and also told me how to best care in the next week leading up to the wedding. By the time the wedding came, my acne was cleared with minor areas where it was a lot easier to manage. I can't thank her enough! I now know I must keep with the schedule and visit Irina every 4-6 weeks, not only does she help me clear up my skin but also as a constant reminder to take care of myself. She never pushes products on me but I've fully bought in and listen to whatever she tells me I need as I have my full trust in her. Went full on out. Location and ambiance: located by the new One Life Fitness on the second floor of Sola Salon Studios, where there are a ton of different businesses under one roof. I saw hair, makeup, etc. The room was the perfect size, very clean and organized. Backlit with a calming purple hue, plus acoustic music playing in the background Service: Taylor was my esthetician and she was really warm and welcoming. After filling out some forms, we jumped right in, talking through what was happening during each step since I was pretty unfamiliar with it all I left with my skin feeling the softest it has in years and very glowy and dewy - exactly what I was hoping for. It's only been a few days, so I'm curious to see how long the results last, combined with my new knowledge of what my skin needs (she emphasized hydration and exfoliation). Looking forward to returning for maintenance. Small suggestions for improvement: I wish there was a way to fill out the intake form online. I did it when I first arrived and we didn't deeply discuss the form or my skin concerns before diving in. It would also be helpful to give patients a resource for when they leave. With John K. at New Wave Salon in my corner, I felt confident that this was going to work. During our consultation in April he described the whole process and instructed me to let about 2" of the natural color grow in so he could match the tone. In August he spent a full day to implement the transition. Not only did he explain the process step-by-step, but he also made sure I understood the range of results I might see. I couldn't be happier. John was patient, thoughtful about what would work best, and made sure he did nothing to damage my hair. The results speak for themselves. Without reservation, I am recommending John for complex coloring work. I'd also like to share that I was mortified with the prospect of letting the gray show while I was growing it out. At first I tried to cover it up with coloring sprays and hats, but eventually nothing concealed the amount of gray that came in. I was pleasantly surprised by the encouragement I received from family, friends, acquaintances and strangers who freely and continually told me how much they liked my 2-tone look. This made each day leading up to my transformation with John so much easier. My advice for others who are contemplating going natural is, trust the process, and trust John. An encouraged reader asked me to provide info about the cost. I've never had my hair professionally colored so I don't know what the standard cost for coloring is, but this was likely well beyond that. One factor is that it took a full day of John's time with only short rest periods between applications, washing, and blow drying (which occurs between each step so the chemicals are absorbed by dry hair). Another factor is that it depends on variables including how your hair reacts to the chemicals, what chemicals can safely be used without damaging your hair, and how many processes are needed not only to strip the old color but potentially add low lights if quasi-darker tones remain. All this before the silver tint, potentially a glaze top coat, and a final blow out. It's likely that your colorist will provide a complimentary consultation before you start letting the gray grow out. You can ask questions about timing and expected cost range at that time.
