I've been going to tea spa for years. I started at the location on University Boulevard, then ventured to Dreamland by Tea Spa in Rockville, and now I go to the Gaithersburg location. I have had great experiences at all three. However, Gaithersburg is my new home. It's beautifully decorated and calming. The customer service is top tier and it's conveniently located. I most recently received a hot stone and the following month a Swedish massage. They were both very relaxing experiences. The masseuse Sunny is very considerate, she does multiple check ins throughout the visit, and is very good at her craft. Their prices ate comparable to others in the area. I would recommend this spa for those in the area or any of the others I mentioned above. read more

I have been a member of Tea Spa since 2012 when Cathy was at the Wheaton location, for many years. I was happy that there was a location when I moved to Gaithersburg 4 years ago. I really enjoy this place. I feel like it is true massage therapy, you leave a bit sore because like the therapist really "go in" on your knots and release any tension. Their style of massage is truly healing to the body and spirit for me. I am a regular and have tried several therapists: James, Lily, Hannah, Angela, Amy, Melanie. Amy is my favorite but they are ALL so good, gracious and kind spirits! As many reviews mention, you do hear the next door neighbors which is a gym, but for me the relaxing music and white noise that they play at Tea Spa usually drown it out. I would say I don't go for a quiet "spa" experience, I go to receive true massage therapy and energy work, so for me the extra noise is not a big deal. I took off a star for several negative experiences I have with their weekend front desk person who I will call Crazy Karen. She is simply rude obnoxious each and every time I encounter her. The first time about a year ago Feb 2022 the woman harassed me about the amount of tip I left for the massage therapist. I left with a bad taste, I did call and speak with Cathy to tell her about the negative experience. Cathy apologized and said she was helping the woman out who was previously unemployed and going through a hard time. I told Cathy we are all going through a hard time, but what we shouldn't do is take it out or project onto paying customers - especially after a relaxing massage. I did continue to go to Tea Spa but hadn't seen her in a long time, I thought she no longer worked there and forgot about her. I did end up seeing her there 2 more times and experienced the same type of harassment. She doesn't ask "how was your massage?" She does not tell you the cost of the massages. She goes straight to "how do you want to take care of the tip?" and that the "computer can calculate the tip if you tell me a percentage." Not giving you a chance to figure out what you want to give. This woman is truly obnoxious and doesn't deserve to be working at anyone's front desk. After a wonderful healing experience with the staff members who are always kind and gracious - she is so off putting. She is bad for business and is better suited in a back office somewhere filing papers or doing the laundry, not dealing with clients. I always enjoy my massages at Tea Spa and my intention when I get a massage is to relax, not to fight with anyone, so I will avoid the weekends from now on if this woman is at the front desk. This is not a complaint about the massage staff, just be warned about Crazy Karen if you do go. read more

Today, I experienced THE most heavenly therapeutic massage at this location. And from the moment I saw it when I parked my car, its inviting curb appeal tucked in the Kentsland Market Square, I knew I was in for a wonderful treat! The backstory - in 2019 - 3 years ago, I took my daughter to the location in Rockville. While the mother/daughter sauna and massage was very good, I had a concern about the room we were in sharing a wall with the barber shop next door. And the noise was distracting, which took away from the overall experience. I wrote that in my review, and the owner responded, offering me a gift certificate to go to the Gaithersburg location. Three years later, when COVID seemed to be subsiding a bit - I activated the gift certificate, and I am pleased to say that this is the location for anyone who desires the best treatment by professionals who are personable and highly skilled. I frequently visit tea spa in Wheaton and due to lack of appointments, i decided to book at the gaithersburg location and i thoroughly enjoyed my massage. I booked a 50 minute hot stone massage. They have an online booking system but i called the evening before and was able to get an appt for the following evening. Upon arrival, there is an ample amount of parking. It's about a few blocks away from the Whole Foods. On arrival, i was greeted by one of the masseuse'. They are very strict with COVID. They checked my temperature, offered me hand sanitizer and sprayed the bottom of my shoes. Masks are also required during the massage which actually wasn't as bad as i thought. My first experience here was amazing! I called on a Sunday to see if I could book an appointment for a facial that day and they were able to squeeze me in their schedule. Note: they do charge you if you miss your appointment or cancel during their specific time frame! I had a coupon for a $59 50-minute facial so I was super excited to try this place out because I rarely get facials, ever! Upon walking in, I noticed the place was very zen. Calming music, aesthetically pleasing decor. I was greeted immediately and was asked to fill out a form. There's water and tea in the waiting area as well. Shortly after, I was greeted by my esthetician, Ruby! I was then shown to the facial spa room and was directed to change into their towel wrap they had. The bed is heated which was super nice and there was calming music and dim lights for a very relaxing experience. Ruby was patient and gentle with my skin. She explained everything that she was going to do and even explained what was going on with my skin so that she could customize the facial to my skincare needs. You could tell she's experienced and educated so I trusted her with my face! Beware: when it comes it extractions, it HURTS!! That's how it always is though so don't expect a painless extraction lol. Afterwards, my skin was a little irritated because of the pimple extractions but everywhere else was GLOWWWING. I was so happy with my skin after! My experience yesterday (11/21/2020) was horrible, and I would never recommend this place to anyone - not even my enemy. I booked two Spa packages for myself and friend to celebrate her birthday. I wanted her to have a relaxing Spa Day and thought this place would be perfect. I've been to Tea Spa (Wheaton) before, and decided to return since my previous experience was amazing. This was a horrible experience for both of us. Although I called ahead of time to book the appointment (3 days prior), gave my card information to secure the time slot, and paid full price, we were treated awful. Before I booked, I spoke to the owner 3 times and to ensure she understood that I wanted a full package with Sauna, Hot Stone Massage and Facial for my friend and myself. She told me it would be 2.5 hours in total (30 min sauna, 1 hr Hot Stone, and 1 hr Facial), we agreed on a price of $180pp and I was excited. The day of, my friend was running late (10 minutes - accident on interstate 270) I was there on time and explained this to the owner. She was annoyed and asked me to start without my friend even though I told her that we were celebrating my friend's birthday. I opted to wait for my friend. She also asked me where was my towel for the sauna. I explained to her that I wasn't aware that I needed to bring my own. I spoke with her 3 times before I booked and she never asked me to come with a towel. She snapped at me and told me to bring my own towel next time. When my friend arrived we went into the sauna. After 15 mins the esthetician asked us to get out of the sauna. I explained to her that we paid for 30 minutes, and we still had time. She left and got the owner who asked us to get out because they had other customers. She never mentioned this to me while I waited for my friend earlier. We were taken aback. We left the sauna after 18 mins. We were charged for 30 mins each. Next I went for the massage, and my friend went for her facial. During the massage I noticed no stones were being used, so I inquired about the Hot Stones. The Massage technician told me $25 more for Hot Stones. I was confused because I made it clear I wanted Hot Stones for my friend and myself prior to booking the appointment. We were going back and forth and then I demanded to see the owner. The owner ultimately told the tech to use the hot stones, but by this point I was over this spa experience. When I went in for the Facial, the Tech immediately tried to sell me things, she didn't explain what she was using on my face, asked me not to speak, and the whole experience was rushed. She was done in 40 minutes- not 1hr as promised. Neither my friend or myself was impressed, but I still added $30 gratuity which I thought was generous considering how we were treated, however, the owner decided to charge $45 for gratuity. The place was subpar clean at best. I noticed the esthetician touch things and trying to touch my face afterwards. The customer service was non existent. They were rude and uninviting. I'm disappointed that I spent my hard earned money at this establishment. I really like supporting businesses, especially during COVID, but I will never return to any of the locations. I booked myself a last minute massage for my birthday and was glad they could fit me in but had such a terrible experience I haven't felt comfortable getting a massage since then. The massage was so awkward and uncomfortable I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and feel like I should report it but don't know to who or how (I've tried looking it up but couldn't find anything). The masseuse used so much oil I was greasy, the towel was so low on my lower back I felt exposed. At one point I think he climbed on the table or leaned so much on it, it creaked. At one point he tried massaging my arm pit that my arm swung down against my side from ticklish reflex. I ended up purchasing a membership, because I will be frequenting Tea Spa more once I am fully vaccinated. My only problem was that someone barged into our room abruptly during our session. Not sure what that was about, seemed like another therapist needed something from that room (Hannah and ' the person' exchanged some words softly). As one of my birthday surprises, my boyfriend ordered a groupon deal for a couples massage for this location of Tea Spa. He had heard me mention that I had had a massage at Tea Spa in Silver Spring, and that I enjoyed my experience there. The day of our appointment was my actual birthday. It was a Friday, and we were booked for 6 pm. Because of crazy traffic (I work in Downtown DC), and unforeseen circumstances, we did not arrive until 6:20 pm. My boyfriend had called and let them know that he was running late, all while trying to conceal the surprise from me! When we arrived, and I realized where we were, I was super excited. When we walked in though, my excitement turned to disappointment when I was told that our couples massage would only be for 30 minutes, not an hour, as had been paid for on Groupon. I tried to explain to the lady at the front desk that it was my birthday, but she let me know that the masseuses had to leave by 7 pm, and that the only thing they could do to accommodate us was to give us the 30 minute massage. Another option, she suggested, would be to come back another day. I let her know that that wasn't option as that the massage was for my birthday, which was that day. She then suggested that we contact Groupon. Le sigh. I decided not go back and forth on the topic for two reasons: 1. It was my birthday. Positive vibes only; and 2. The more time I spent complaining, the more time was taken away from our 30 minute massage! Although the massage was ok, my overall experience was less than stellar. I think the situation, although inconvenient on both sides, could have been rectified by either: - Inviting us back for a second 30 minute massage on another day; OR - Giving us a gift certificate for another service on a different date. When we walked out of our massage at 7 pm, other people in the spa were still being serviced, which I thought was interesting, since the time constraint was overemphasized to us. I was looking for a pedicure on a weekday morning and decided to try this spa. I did not have a reservation but was able to be accommodated after a 20 minute wait. First off, this place is TINY. They only have 2 pedicure chairs and 2 manicure stations...and not enough staff to even cover that while I was there. They do have rooms in the back for massages/waxing but those were not being used. They try to create a spa atmosphere with the music and the decor, but all I felt was claustrophobic in the space. The employees were very nice and professional. Shelia did an great job on my nails. The pricing is a little confusing. They have 4 different kinds of pedicures but I could not get a good idea of what the difference was between them. There are also separate prices for members and non-members. The biggest negative was the cards placed prominently on the front desk, reminding customers that they will get a surprise if you give them a 5-star yelp rating. What more can I say?
