hands down 5 stars. So far the best spa I've ever tried in Manhattan. Clean, not gigantic but nice and comfortable rooms and most importantly, WONDERFUL RESULTS AND SERVICE. The lady who did my spots removal treatment took really long time to carefully explain about procedure such as side effects, costs, results, and so on. I forgot her name but she seems to be the owner of that spa. In fact, as she said, my face got lots of black spots after the treatment. But it calmed down in 3 days, and my spots almost all disappeared in 5 days(today)!! Still have a spot left (since it was the biggest on my face), but look way better now. I actually wanted to write the review about my wonderful experience(her service and the spa itself), but an ultimate pragmatist, I wanted to wait to see the result (this is a spa after all and you come here to expect some improvement of yourself, right?). And it turned out to be perfect!! Even my coworkers realized the difference...! I've had mild-moderate cystic acne since I was a teenager. It's cleared up and various points in my life, mainly because I was on birth control, but I recently had a really horrible flare-up due to getting off BC, going through a breakup, and stressing about my living situation. My friend recommended Serene Max because she went there through a SpaWeek special for lasering off her freckles. I went just to have a red spot looked at and the laser lady, Daria, told me about how the laser can help acne as well. I bought a package and have been 3 times now and I can see a difference! There are other factors too: I've had a couple micropeels from Gemvie (the spa/business that shares the location with Serene Max), I've gotten back on birth control, I've worked out the other things stressing me. But I can definitely tell that there aren't big sore bumps brewing under my skin and threatening to come out and scar. The old red marks from previous breakouts aren't gone, but my skin is smooth and I'm getting maybe one new small pimple each week or two vs. four or five big ones. Other people have noticed that my skin looks better, and after a few treatments, I can tell too! Be warned that it hurts like hell. All this 'little pinch' business is so wrong, haha. The freckle/brown spot laser is just kind of uncomfortable. The vein one hurts a lot but it usually doesn't last long. But the acne laser hurts worse than my tattoo and is especially tough in the beginning when you have more sensitive spots and cystic bumps. Now that mine are starting to dry up, it doesn't hurt quite as much, but it's still sort of a harrowing experience. But worth it! It's a little expensive. It's way more than I've ever spent on myself or my skin. But there are packages that make it more affordable, and to me it's been totally worth it because it's working! And while I'm going every three weeks to a month now, Daria says that I won't have to continue that forever. It takes maybe four to six times to help clear what's going on, then after that she said I should just come in every three months or so. I like Daria because she always remembers me and what we did last time, and she gives good personalized advice about what to do for my skin. I don't feel bad paying so much for the services because I'm so excited to have found something that actually works! read more

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this place. I've been to Completely Bare (great results but expensive!), Bellair Laser (great service but haven't seen the best results), and one other place which I cannot remember the name of currently - all for various areas. Damn I must be hairier than I thought. For lower legs, I've only gone to Serene Max and during Spa Week. My first experience at Serene Max was a year ago with Daria and I couldn't believe how little I've had to shave since going there for ONE time. I've had sparse hair growth and have had to shave once a month. Normally I would have gone back again sooner to get rid of the hair completely but I can't say that the process itself was pleasant. Perhaps I was just being sensitive and I never had my legs done elsewhere but I remember sweating profusely like I had been running on a treadmill like a hamster. It reminded me of my experience getting tattoos. A year later (last week) I decided to make another appt. thinking perhaps I was just being too much of a baby last time. Unfortunately it was the same freaking unpleasantness. It feels like hot rubber bands doing little cutting slices on your skin in certain areas. Daria must really turn up the juice on that machine! Well she did say I needed to shave completely and invest in numbing cream which I didn't prepare for this time. I'm waiting to see the results from this but I anticipate that I either don't have to go back for another few years or just do it one more time and I'm done. Who seriously gets laser only 2-3 times and see the results they want? #WIN Again, fantastic deal and results which makes that 20mins of unpleasantness kinda worth it. I originally wrote a review on Gemvie Spa, but it seems that Seren Max is the laser part. I haven't tried their other services, but would highly recommend Daria for laser hair removal. I found them when passing by & noticed some cards/coupons for laser hair removal outside their door with a really great deal on laser. The picture was horrible - a lip covered half with dark, ugly hair. Almost made me not want to look into them. But the price was too good. I had been to a couple of other places through SpaWeek- Tribeca, Completely Bare & had ok experiences. But the prices after were way too much. I really liked Daria from the start. No nonsense, yet friendly. Put me at ease. In the end I had my underarms, brazilian, and lower legs done. Yes, there are some areas that definitely are NOT fun... but for the most part it is not painful at all. And those not fun areas aren't fun when waxing either. I've been there 4 times now & there seems to be just a bit of fuzz left - but I think I'm the only one who notices them. I would highly recommend Daria - and have to several of my friends. I booked 6 sessions so that I could get the reduced price for all the sessions. And they weren't pushy like some (laser cosmetica turned me off because of that). I think I've said it all. I've been to three or four places for laser hair removal, and this place is by far the best. At other places, even after 6 treatments there was no reduction in hair growth. Here, I saw results from the first session. After treatment the hair will grow very slowly, fall out after 2 weeks, and then grow very slowly again. When hair grows back it appears thinner and lighter. It usually takes 6 sessions to have a major improvement. I still come back occasionally for touch ups and am starting a new package for my legs. Daria is amazing. She's very professional, knowledgeable, and patient. She's very thorough and makes sure I am satisfied with the service. She doesn't try to pressure me about getting other services and is very honest about the results I should expect. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Beware!!! Do not get a photo facial here unless you want to get burned and spend thousands of dollars hoping to repair your skin. My skin looks 100 times worse then when I first went to Serene. I expressed my concerns to Darla that the setting on the machine was too high and that she burned my face. It was clearly apparent since you could smell my skin sizzling during the treatment like bacon frying in a skillet. Her response was argumentive and condescending. After she was done frying my skin she then said I should get Fraxel which would cost about $4,000 or $5,000. I didn't need Fraxel until she burned my skin! If I wanted Fraxel Daria I wouldve went to my dermatologist before I encounterend such a horrible experience with you. Thus far I've spent hundreds of dollars at the dermatologist on treatments and the burns aren't even close to being gone. I would post pictures if i had the option to do so. Daria shouldn't be allowed to perform laser on clients since she is always right and and doesn't listen or respect her customers feedback. I believe she burned me intentionally for challenging her poor work ethic. Shame on you Daria. I want a refund. read more

During spa week I bought the laser package for chin/stomach/under arms @$50 for each area for 6 treatmnts. The first 4 treatmnts went w/o a hitch& I saw results on my 1st treatmnt. The pain wasn't pleasant but tolerable.My hairs were growing slowly& lighter but they were still persistent. I askd Daria if by the end of my sessions my hair would come no more& she assured me yes.On my 4th the treatmnt; that's when things went sour. After my 4th treatmnt I scheduld my 5th treatmnt& facial for the afternoon.Of course the day comes & I'm running so late (first time, mind U).I called "I'm running extremely late, I'm so sorry! I should be there soon". I arrive& Daria is at the front desk. She looks @ the time& says (while other customers present) "wow, U R very late.(No sh*t) I'm not sure we can take U" I understood because it was my fault& said I would reschedule.She said "I'll see what I can do& next time when U plan on being late please let us know in advance so we can accommodate". In return I said "I never planned on being late". I was clearly flustered w/ this comment. I work in customer service &have never made the customer like sh*t .Galina took me to do my facial (my first time). She told me to go into a room. I never got a facial B4 so I didn't know what to do. She came by a few minutes later, said that I had to take my top off& put the towel wrap on& askd if I ever got a facial B4, I said no.she apologized& instructed on what to do.I was still flustered from B4& even more because she assumed that this was routine for me.The facial wasn't bad&Galina was nice. So because she was nice& because I'm a sucker& can't say no, I purchased a 3-facial package of $266.48. Now for the laser, 5th treatmnt: I really didn't want to get it done that day because I was still annoyed. But I thought, it's already paid for only 2 more to go! When she started, I felt that the setting was higher than normal because it was unbearable for me! I told her I need a break& askd her why it felt more intense. She said "because U came in very excited& that's why U R extra sensitive". WOW, I was speechless. @ this point I felt that I would never come back But I had 1 more treatmnt to go& will request a refund for the purchased package on the following business day. I just wantd to get out of there! I called that Monday& left a message. No one called back. I called again, talked to Daria& said I had to talk to Galina about it& that the refund is up to her. Fine. Galina doesn't call me until after my third call because she was busy, I understood. I explained I wantd a refund as I should have never purchased this package in the 1st place as I have major expenses coming up because I am getting married this year. She advised that refunds R only given In the form of store credit which states on my receipt. I said, I never saw that in the store B4& thought to myself why would U let customers know of this rule until AFTER they make a purchase? I told her store credit will not work for me because I don't plan on coming back to Serene Max.She askd why, I said I won't say but it had nothing to do w/ my facial treatmnt. She said she will see what she can do as it's not up to her, it's up to some guy named john? (That's possibly the wrong name). A few days later she advised that john? Has approved a refund of $150. I guess something's better than nothingbut I was& still unhappy. *Note:after my 5th treatmnt hairs started growing more coarse and rapidly. I have my suspicions on why this is. My last laser treatmnt: I askd Daria if it was normal for my hairs to grow thicker& faster. She said it was absolutely normal.(Really?This is my last treatmnt, shouldn't it be the other way around!?)the laser was still unbearable! I told her to stop& askd why did it feel worse?! She said U R sensitive today like last time because it was on the same setting as last time.I askd her if she increased the settings, she said sternly "Natalie, the settings R the same as last time" I said, I didn't ask U that, I askd if U increased the settings @ all, since my 1st session. She askd if I wantd her to lower the setting& I said that is the only way I will continue. W/ the lowered setting it was so much better! I didn't understand why my settings were increased w/o my knowledge& if they were increased for any reason, why not explain why? After the session was over she then had the nerve to ask me if I wantd to purchase anymore packages. I kept my cool& said not @ this time (or ever). After my last treatmnt, my hairs R growing noticeably thicker&faster as if I never went to get laser hair removal! I also want to note she has tendencies of smart remarks. She complemented me in my nail color, I said thank U it's actually gel & that it's been over aweek &still looked good She said "I can see your nails do not grow fast". Why?
