It's larger than it looks from the outside (there's even an upstairs with used/old books that would be easy to miss, since the staircase is sort of hidden behind a wall of the shop), and they have a pretty great selection for a small independent bookshop. I just needed one book (I thought I might finish the memoir I'd brought with me on my weekend trip to the area), but I left with...3? I can't even remember. I kept finding more intriguing books! It's charming, has a great inventory, and seems a great shop! With so many independent and even chain bookstores closing, it feels like a lot of towns/neighborhoods don't have a bookshop anymore. Shepherdstown residents are lucky to have a shop as wonderful as Four Seasons - a place big enough that you can browse and find a book you didn't even know about before you wandered in. Really a charming shop. I'd happily return if I make to Shepherdstown again!

The way they organize makes it really easy to find your next favorite book. They have staff recommendations but also have a ton of genres so it's easy to find what you want. My kiddo loved it when she was little and now enjoys the middle grades books. I love the selection of horror/mystery/true crime. One of my favorite things is to buy books that are staff picks. They have not let me down. Their staff highlights the best books. The pricing isn't lowest you'll find, but I'm ok with that because I'm supporting people and a message, and not a big chain. There was a small hiccup/misunderstanding with a large set of books I purchased from them (it was missing one volume out of 150) and the owner went out of his way to make it right. He ordered me the missing volume and had it mailed to my house since I live two hours away. This was my second trip to Blue Plate and I will always make sure to stop by whenever I'm in the area.

They got rid of their little wine bar several years ago but have expanded their children's section into a comfortable little nook that is perfect for finding your next best read. They also have the best gift selection for adults and children and tons of unique activity books (perfect for snowstorms like this weekend!). Love, love, love this shop.

It's not huge but it has a lot of variety and the prices are fairly reasonable for what is offered. What's really cool about the place is that they not only have the regular used books selection, they also have a good handful of vintage, pulp fiction type paperbacks from the '50s and earlier. They also have a good selection of First Editions that they keep under lock and key and go for some serious bucks. Of course, being in a WV tourist destination, they also have a little area for locally made soaps and lotions and the like. Not a lot. Just enough to make a couple more bucks. If you like browsing through a used book store, this is a great place to spend some time.

He laughed at me, said good luck, and then followed me around the store. He kept making comments just loud enough for me to hear, such as "magic is as real as religion", "Hagerstown is just full of crazy people these days". I finally turned around and asked him what his problem was, to which he replied "oh I don't have a problem but clearly you do." I immediately left and I will never come back. In fact, I'm going to tell people not to come to this store because the managers are very rude. Eta: I never specified a date, and if your management team was focused on helping customers find such a small section of books, instead of entertaining themselves, I would have given a better rating.

It is located inside what comes off as an office building. Once inside there the smell of books is in the air. Love that smell! There's a few racks for adult books. There is a great selection of kids books and products. The bathroom is so cute! It's filled with book posters and is very clean. There is a baby changing station and they even had a few diapers and wipes available just incase. How thoughtful. Bonus for a bathroom and a cute bathroom at that!
