Hagerstown has lacked a great local bookstore for decades and I'm so glad that Next Chapter has taken on the task. As you walk into the bookstore, you are immediately immersed in a warm, calming and inviting atmosphere. Music softly plays in the background as a staff member greets you. As a book lover, I couldn't help but smile ask I walked into the room that held a majority of the books. "Wow" immediately left my mouth - as well as others' who entered the store while I was perusing the shelves. Next Chapter has a great variety books, both fiction and nonfiction. A whimsical second room houses all of the children's books. Walking even farther into the building (Next Chapter is like the Tardis!), you step into the spacious cafe area. Comfort is the main goal as patrons have their choice to sit at tables or super plush chairs. If you need to study or work, this is a great place to do it. The cafe offers drinks, pizza, charcuterie, wings and small bites. I look forward to my next visit and highly recommend checking out Next Chapter Cafe and Book Shop whenever you're in the Downtown Hagerstown area!

The wonderful woman behind the counter was just as sweet as could be. I can't drink coffee, and being a new spot, the drink menu is rather brief, but I found a delicious tea I've never heard of and was really happy with it. I didn't eat so I can't comment on the food. The seating area is huge but somehow also cozy. Lots of comfy chairs and couches, lighting that is t too bright nor too dim, some mellow music playing, beautiful wood floors, natural colors, and on and on. I really loved Next Chapter. I wish I had a coffee shop like this near where I live, but I'll have to settle for stopping in when I'm passing Hagerstown. I really hope this new place will be here for years to come!

This store is supposed to be one of the smallest in the chain, but doesn't show it. Large selection of books, comics, DVD/Blu-ray's, and toys/collectables. If you don't know about 2nd & Charles, most of the items are used trade-ins from other customers, so you can never be sure what will be in stock. We had several questions about prices of items behind the counter which were quickly answered and the employees were helpful. Had a good selection of Manga but a smaller selection of Anime DVD/Blu-ray's. A large selection of comic longboxes were available, but per other 2nd & Charles their organization was not the best. Overall, store was clean and organized with an on-par selection of items compared to other stores. I would return here again.
