Anyway, I booked my appointment with the founder and owner of the shop, Annik. I chose to come here based on stellar online reviews, that Miley Cyrus came here (she has to know a good waxer, right?), that appointments are offered into the evening and that they have hard wax. Also, the location is convenient for people downtown or taking skytrain. The area is really not sketchy like some others have said. Maybe if you are not used to homeless people or people loitering, but let's be real, that's everywhere these days. I was super happy with the services here. The rooms are private and clean. There is no double dipping and Annik, as well as the woman at the front desk, were very friendly and personable. Annik was a perfectionist with her waxing and made sure everything was symmetrical and all hairs were removed. She checked her work several times during the appointment, which I appreciate. She also worked quite quickly. While waxing is not going to be painless, the pain was very momentary.

I'm a hairy guy and I've had the odd girlfriend in the past raise that as an issue. It was never a…read moremake it or break it issue though but I was always a bit of a wimp when it comes to waxing. I'm terrified of doing stuff that could be painful. But, after hearing how so many do this I decided to bite the bullet in August 2019 and get my first full manzillian. I had read that if people were scared of waxing they should try say their back or upper arms but I dove right in. I read a lot online, spent hours reading about the experience of other men and women. One thing that helped me was advice online that recommended people getting waxed take a extra strength Tylenol when they get up, and another just before the procedure as it helps the system be a bit numb to the pain. But in terms of narrowing down where I was going to go, I think I visited and read reviews of several places in Vancouver that specialize in just providing waxing services, as CoalitionSkin does. And for me, what made CoalitionSkin (aka the PxssyShop) stand out was a few reviews by men and how they said that the hard wax CoalitionSkin used is easier on delicate areas like your testes, pubic bone and yes, even your face. Also, in reading the bios online, CoalitionSkin has aestheticians who have both the training and years of experience in waxing that I felt they'd be able to do a good job. Which they do. Finally, I even found and read the health inspection reports for CoalitionSkin and they've never had any major infractions - and my own experience confirms that the place has always been spotless when I've been their. Booking appointments is easy to do online, where you can select your aesthetician and times in advance. My first time in August 2019 was with Camille, who unfortunately moved on shortly thereafter but she was great at explaining things and helping to position me during the waxing. She also instructed me to breathe in just before each rip of the wax and that helped prepare me. What actually hurt more was the odd time she had to go over a spot again as not all the hair would come out during my first wax. The hot wax stung the raw skin. But not for long. The first time also took the longest. Since September 2019, I've gone to Olivia, who has been great. Each time it's been easier as the hair doesn't grow in as fast or as thick. Also in September I started getting my beard waxed. Olivia does that too. I have always had a very thick beard since I was a teenager. When I trim and shave it away, stubble grows back quick within hours and that made dating difficult as by the end of the date, kissing me would be like kissing razor blades. So waxing the beard has helped remove the hair and keep it away for a couple of weeks where the skin stays smooth. And after having it done four times now it's easier each time. My last wax only took an hour or so for both the beard and Manzillian whereas the first beard wax took a good hour and the first Manzillian over 90 minutes, maybe close to two hours. Having said this though, even though it now takes less time, nothing ever feels rushed, they take the time that's needed to do things properly. Overall I'm glad I chose CoalitionSkin. It costs a bit more, but their aestheticians are well trained, experienced and very friendly and easy going. And I don't find it that painful at all. It's partly a mindset and taking the Tylenol helps I think. The CoalitionSkin website has lots of tips to help you prepare too. And they give great advice for aftercare too, like taking it easy for 24 hours and using tea tree oil as part of your after-wax regiment. Next summer, in 2020, I might try getting my back done, and having a bit of cleanup on my upper arms and chest although I don't think I'd ever get my full chest done. I think Camille said that the men she had waxed always said the back hurt the most but we will see! Anyway I can't recommend them enough. Especially if other men are curious about this, or ladies want their men to get stuff done don't be afraid to check out CoalitionSkin!

Pretty much if you can't find the nail polish/product you want at your local drug store, you can almost definitely find it here! Buy more, and the price comes down per bottle. I don't like pushy sales bc it turns me off and I leave the store but knowing that someone acknowledges my presence w/o feeling pressured to purchase is a gold star. I was looking for something to lighten up my break out marks and the sales, Mandy, recommended me this serum from Green Envee (1st time) and Guinot (2nd time). Another reason why I return to this store is their buy $50 get $10 coupon (for the following quarter mths). Its a way to do business keeping ur customers but if the prices are the same for some of the brands you can find elsewhere ie. The Bay, Sephora, Murale, etc. why not get it here when u can get a $10 coupon for future purchase, gift with purchase (depending on which brands) and lots of free samples? The Bay offers 10% cosmetics and fragrances from time to time only and gift with purchases (certain times for each brands), Sephora offers points... no gift with purchase and sometimes 10-15% off Sephora days and no samples or rarely... Murale offers optimum points - that's it!

I had an aweful experience while visiting the Sephora at Pacific Centre in downtown Vancouver :( I was nicely greeted by a staff member when I first walked in & was sure I was going to get the help I was looking for buying products I was told I could find at Sephora. The lady who helped me told me she was a supervisor or lead hand & said she trained other staff members. She then walked me around the store like I was on a tour. She quickly left me without saying anything... just walked away literally while my back was turned & left me standing there :( I waited for her to return for at least 15 minutes. I'm an understanding person & figured she was simply busy. It was after waiting I noticed her standing off in the corner socilizing with what seem to be a friend not a customer. When they were done talking, another 10 minutes later, I approched her & asked very politly if she could help me make a final decision on a purchase I thought was what I was looking for. I had to find what I was looking for myself & was not confident it was what I actually needed. She kinda gave me a glare that made me feel like I was an inconvienence to her, but she said she would be with me in a few minutes. I walked back over to where she had originally left me. Almost right away I noticed her walking out the front entrence & cross at the intersection. I put back what I was looking at & asked someone else for help. I was told someone would be with me shortly. I was very disappointed after waiting another 20 minutes!!! nobody came & the lady who helped me the in the first place wasn't even in the store. I left only to find the lady who was helping me in the first place outsode smoking a cigarette ewwww!!!! I was actually going to let this person try products on my face & was so discusted at this point with the costumer service that after seeing this I felt sick to my stomach. If I had saw her smoking after I she had touched my face I think I wouyld have been sick. I walked by her & said "thank you for your help, have a nice day" in a polite way to I might add & she replied "your welcome, you too". Clearly she had no idea who I was & that she had left me standing in her store, this is supposed to be a supervisor & who trains other staff??? I will never ever return to the Sephora at the Pacific Centre. I went to the Sephora location in Metrotown & was treated like I was royaly from the moment I walked in the door. The staff was so helpfull with explaning how the products are applied & how they work. I was so impressed & am very happy they were able to redeem the reputation I heard Sephora had. Aslo, since then I have visited another location & again my experience was wonderfull!! Too bad the Pacific Centre Sephora location is so close to my home, but I will never waste my time & money at this Sephora ever again. I spent $389.52 at the Metrotown lacation that day with no regret of doing so & have recomened to all my girlfriends & sisters & told them of my awefull exsperience I had at the downtown location in Vancouver. they all agrre, theuy will not spend a dime there. Make your own decision, it is well worth the trip to anyother location other then Pacific Centre's simply because of the customer service knowledge I was given. You don't want to spend money on the wrong product. read more

For the girly girl they have tara tarontino, for the earthy or minimalistic they have nars and josie maran and tarte. they also have sales staff for every type of shopper. Once i even said "i don't think you really know what i'm talking about" (that sounds way ruder than it was! heehee!) and she said just a minute and came back with a woman who knew more about what I was asking (skin condition) and who "fit" my makeup style better. and their return policy?? omg no questions asked, can return pretty much anything at any time. they are not reluctant or quizzical or make you feel bad. in fact they feel bad for you for having you disappointed with their products. Sephora is one of the few cosmetic retailers who knows that make up junkies are fickle and that we can very easily be courted by other brands and shops. They take our loyalty very seriously. Make sure you grab a Beauty Insider card at the cash register and start accumulating points with every purchase. These add up FAST! I'm sick of those unattainable loyalty programs where you can never even make a dent because it's so difficult to add up points. (Or worse, yet, those "preferred customer" programs that just send you a pretty postcard once a year to offer "VIPs" a piddly percentage off some product launch.) I got offered a gift on just my second visit, but decided to hold off and rack up more points in my Beauty Bank for something bigger later on. Oh, and make sure you sign up for their free newsletter through sephora.com. You'll get a lovely little present on your birthday if you happen to stop by a store. It's a fun newsletter to subscribe to in any case, as it's always full of promos and interesting news. read more

They also carry LA brand make up at reasonable cost, I am a huge fan of their cotton candy pink and blue shades that I am strongly considering for Halloween for my Jem costume. The customer service was a bit of a turn off. They weren't rude but they slightly made me feel like assisting me was an inconvenience even though I was the only one at the store. This is probably why I didn't pick up a lipstick right away and will come back.

I went for the decently-priced European facial. The service was very clinical with no frills…read morecompared to the usual spa but it was still a pleasant and relaxing experience. I left with smoother and more hydrated skin as well as some samples that my face is reacting to very nicely. That said, I didn't come in with any major concerns so this provided the nice simple boost and through cleansing, exfoliating, and hydration I was looking for. Am not sure if the results would be any more dramatic than that. I usually like it when they explain the steps and the products being used. My facialist didn't start doing this until the end when I started asking her questions. But I know this is a personal preference and I could have started inquiring about the process earlier. Their line and array of products for sale is impressive and comprehensive. I needed an exfoliator so my facialist sold me one. At first she tried to sell me the full-size but I asked to buy the smaller one as I wanted to trial it first. If I hadn't taken the time to browse through the products, I wouldn't have known to ask for the smaller size first. I usually go to Skoah -which like most spas, features head, neck, and shoulder massage as well as ambience and very cozy beds- but am considering coming back here instead. OptaDerm offers a very competitive price for what seems to basically be the same service.

This is the first time I have ever been to a salon and looked worse when I left…read more I went in for a root touch up. I went in with lovely streaked blonde hair that showed some roots. I asked for foil but realized that I was not getting foils but rather a color match of my roots to the hair. I assumed that it would look ok. My hair looked so terrible after the dye job - it was orange and a grey white color. I simply could not walk out of there looking like that so said perhaps colour it light brown. I was assured that the orange would disappear. It didn't - my roots still had an orange tinge and to top it off the brown had a green tinge. I'm so darn polite. When I was asked about the cut I said just a trim of the edges, max an inch. I did not want him doing anything more as it seemed that he did more harm than good. I could see major chopping going on and decided to just call it quits. No blow dry..cut my losses. I went to another salon to try and repair the damage. The cut was so bad that one side was a full inch shorter than the other. They confirmed that the roots were orange and that the brown had a green tinge and that the cut was so bad that it needed to be redone to even out the differences in length. The repairing salon said there was so much damage I had to let my hair sit 10 days. I had a cut though and ended up with hair that was six inches shorter than I went in with oil order to get things evened off. I will never ever go back to this salon or ever go to Edison. While the salon owner did not cause any of the damage...the attitude that she was not interested in my concerns is disappointing, It is her business and such a horrific job reflects on her. She should have been respectful and listened. My advice to Addison was that he needs training. We go to a salon for expertise and in my mind, there was no expertise involved at all.

I had an interview coming up but ended up paying $21.00 only to get humiliated. Naaz basically…read morespent the entire time indirectly insulting my acne and pointing out all my pimples with her fingers. I felt extremely uncomfortable and sad sitting in her chair while she went on and on about how to fix all of my acne problems. It was honestly very overwhelming to say the very least. The worst part is the fact that she even picked a branch off her aloe tree and started dabbing away at my scalp to try and make it even more embarrassing for me. All the hair left on my neck and the missed spot in the corner was nothing but a real disappointment. Moving forward, she even decided to continue making harsh and negative comments about Vietnamese people and their culture about how dirty they are and a bunch of negative stories about this one Vietnamese girl who rented a chair at her salon. It was a total gong show and I can't tolerate racism and discrimination. I certainly will never ever be returning to this salon ever again.
