I ended up coming to this Sephora Northbrook location after having a negative experience at a Sephora in Kohls store. Northbrook Court itself is a pretty 'empty' mall, so it's always easy to get parking which makes getting to this Sephora a lot easier. Upon entering the store, I was immediately greeted by a sales associate who was very honest when she said she couldn't help with my questions on a new primer product. She promptly found me an expert who was very knowledgeable about the product. In addition, she was very patient with me and helped me find a perfect match for my foundation color. She was also able to help me with my coupon, logged my foundation purchase for future reference, and set up my Sephora points promptly. I know there have been mixed reviews of this place in the past, but I've only had good experiences every time that I have come to this location. read more

I used to purchase my cosmetics and skincare products from Marshall Field's and Lord & Taylor's in Northbrook Court. However, after these 2 stores closed, I have been ordering online from Macy's or directly from the manufacturers. Ten days ago, a family member of mine needed a new mascara as her professional photo shoot had been moved up to the next day due to weather condition, so I volunteered to go to Sephora in Northbrook Court to buy one for her, as there's no time to order one online. I had been to Sephora only a few times. I never browsed in there as it is small and pretty cramped. Every time, I would finish my mission by just getting my targeted items, going in and out of there pretty quickly. This time should have been no difference. When I went in there, three of their associates were chatting among themselves, so I showed the screenshot of a Lancome mascara on their Sephora website to the cashier who was free, and asked her to help me locate the product. She was nice and led me to the front of the store, and handed me a Lancome mascara in a black box. I told her that it should be in a silver box. So, she looked again and gave me one in a silver box politely and then walked away. I double-checked the info on the box, and found that it was missing the most important word "Waterproof". I was not familiar with the placement of the product and could not find it. This time I asked a girl named Kelly, and finally she gave me the right one. The good thing was that they carry a lot of products, and they had this mascara that I was looking for. Their staff was friendly and would help if you ask. It's small and oddly laid out but I have had the best customer service experiences at this location, which makes me willing to forgive the design. I was raised by a woman who loved eyeliner so much that she had eyeliner tattooed on to her lids and STILL wore eyeliner over it. All of that is context for how much I also love eyeliner (no tattoo, though) and all other makeup and beauty products. I'm content walking into Sephora and being left alone. I know that's not everyone's preference but I typically have an agenda or a shopping list. On the occasions when I've asked for help, the staff have been great to work with on color matching products, finding a color correcting primer, and helping me find the perfect lip color that lands somewhere between matte and gloss. This location is within easy walking distance of my house, another perk for me. As long as Sephora and I live in this neighborhood, I'll keep coming back here. read more

This place is magical. Every time I shop here, I'm greeted by a friendly and helpful associate who can point me to exactly what I need. Or if I just want to explore, I can do that, too. They have EVERYTHING makeup, along with skin care, some fragrance, and some hair care. I love the customer service here they take the time to ask you what you looking for or wanting and they really listen and explain how to use the product to get best results. I came here last Friday at around noon so the entire mall was pretty empty. I had to return a foundation I previously bought that didn't match. I usually prefer to be left alone when shopping, especially for beauty products (some salespeople can be SO pushy) but today I was on a mission to get a foundation that matched my skin color. My main reason for this review is because I was helped by a really genuine, kind, and knowledgeable makeup artist/sales associate named Mary. She helped me find the perfect foundation that matched both my skin tone and the qualifications I was looking for (buildable, lightweight, matte). She was very honest and knew her stuff and didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. I can be a bit hesitant dealing makeup ladies and sales people. I detest insincerity and hate wasting my time. With that in mind I headed in and immediately sought someone to help me. "Who Jackie?" A very personable and efficient employee. I told her I wanted to try some foundation and let her take it from there. She analyzed each area of my face to determine my skin tone with a high tech machine that reminded me of the Men in Black memory eraser. She found after looking at the results and studying me my skin is red undertone. I actually have heriditary Actinic Prurigo, a skin issue/allergy genetically passed down in people are Native American. Maybe thats why they were called "red men"? Usually it gives me itchy bumps on my knees and hands and elbows during sunny times, but can also make a flushed complexion and inclination to shoot arrows. I also explained I needed something waterproof, if possible, and wind resistant. She helpfuly recommended I try Hourglass Veill Mineral Primer since it can neutralize my skin tone, is water resistant, and has a nice satin finish. I also wanted to try the Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm beacause it had color, said it minimizes redness and pores, and moisterizes. And I got a bit of the UD Weightless foundation. Jackie put the products on me and it looked pretty good gave little samples so I can try it. Since it was my birthday I got as part of my membership card 2 free lipstick crayons by NARS that are so satin and matte I get compliments all the time on the Cruella color. And I picked up an Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black rollerball. I loved the level of customer service shown and recommend if you stop in asking for Jackie. read more

I'm not a huge fan of this location. It's small and laid out weird. I hate the way it's laid out. Which kinda distracts me and takes away from my shopping experience. I could spend HOURS in the Deer Park store - it's nice and big and normal. However, with that being said: i'd rather have A sephora than NO sephora. So, luckily the Northbrook Court mall has this sephora. The associates i've had here have been helpful and friendly. They seem to have most of the usual big names the other stores do. If you're in the vicinity - definitely worth heading into if you're a makeup freak. They have *most* of the big names. Very nice selections of makeup, perfume, hair stuff, etc.. Here's what you need to know: I find this location to be a hit or miss with service, depending on who is assisting you. Their selection is more limited than some of the larger flagship locations, but that is to be expected. In terms of staffing, they seem to have enough attendants when I get in there so I haven't waited too long to check out or get somebody to look up a product. The good thing about this store is that they do take online returns, so on occasion we've found products only available on Sephora.com that we didn't care for, and it's convenient to return in store close to our home rather than packaging and mailing it in. The one thing I will say is they have a fragrance look up tool in store which I've used to match up certain hard to find fragrances with alternates based on the base notes of the scent. That is such a great product for anyone to use, whether you buy from Sephora or not. read more

A Drunk Elephant skincare product made my daughter's skin have an allergic reaction. I contacted Drunk Elephant, and they said Sephora could give me a refund since I bought it through them. When I went to Sephora, they were extremely unhelpful, rude, and unable to refund the whole amount of money that I paid. I walked into this Sephora in plain street clothing, and a nervous smile. Since I am a Trans-woman, finding a makeup artist who knows what they're doing is very, very difficult. Lots of times I've been made to look like a drag queen, not my style. So i decided to give Sephora a chance. I've looked high and low for service like what i received here on my first visit. Product knowledge is a huge deal for me as is the ability to stay up with styles. I was immediately greeted by a smile and a "How can we help you?" I wasn't the only customer at the store, so that meant a lot to me. I worked with John and was very impressed overall at the attention to detail and commitment to quality he gave me. I was thrilled that he was willing to walk me through the application process as opposed to just doing my makeup to get me in and out. This Sephora location is really hit-or-miss when it comes to salespeople. They'll ask you if you need help about 1,000 times, which is frustrating if you just want to browse around and swoon over makeup you can't afford, as I often do. ;) Besides that, when I have asked for help, I wasn't given very good service. I once was looking for a particular color lipstick, and the saleswoman showed me 2 or 3 different brands before giving up and expecting me to pick one out of the brands she showed me. I'm sorry, but if your store has approx. 30 brands of lipstick, then I'm sure you can find one that fits my needs. Especially when it's your job. If you ask for free samples at checkout (they used to give them to you whenever you purchased something, but now you need to ask) then the salespeople will look at you as if you just asked for their first born child. It's uncomfortable and rude. I'm giving this store 3 stars because they do have an amazing selection that you can't find anywhere else. The store is always clean and easy to navigate. Coming here was a fabulous experience - I was assisted by Barbara who introduced me to Bare Escentuals which I immediately fell in love with their mineral makeup. She spent a good amount of time with me explaining and showing me how to swirl, tap and buff :) *since Elizabeth N had the same concern as me, I'm editing to also review Bare Escentuals - I like the coverage of foundation and concealor and wasn't sure about Bare Escentuals, but I did want something lighter for summer time. I suggest getting the starter kit which is $60 but the brushes alone are a $72 deal so if you don't like the mineral makeup - at least you got a deal on brushes - the whole cost of the entire kit is about $150! You get three brushes, two different shades of foundation which have spf 15 in them, warmth (which is like blush/bronzer) and mineral veil (which helps set everything and reduce shine) *I tested it out this weekend and really love how it feels - I feel like I don't have anything on but when I look in the mirror, I still get a natural but balanced look. You can also get a Sephora card free and you get birthday coupons and free samples, as well. Customer service here is great and Sephora always gets me with their plethora of selection for makeup, products, tools, and great service. read more

Came in to return something I bought two weeks ago, I've been shopping at Sephora for years, this is the first time I've gone to this location, it's out by where I work so I swung in to do the return. It was a simple return, 1 item loose powder that just didn't look right on me. I gave the lady my VIB card and she scanned it and started the return, then a sexond girl came over to "check the product" (what??) gave me a nasty look and said "this isn't full" and I said "yeah I know I tried the product". And then she refused the return?? I had used it maybe 3 times and I know Sephora's return policy is if you don't like it return it no matter what. I asked the woman to go get one from the shelf so we could compare that it wasn't halfway empty like she said, but they don't eVEN CARRY THE BARND SO HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE FULL??? She didn't apologize offer store credit or anything just refused the return. Went to the deer park store on my way home, and they returned it no problem. Second thing- same store same day. I still needed to pick up a few things- they don't carry half the shit that I was looking for. When I finally got someone to help me she was super rude and just pointed to the product and walked away. My daughter just spent over half an hour trying to get someone to help her. She was ignored. She asked for the manager and was told she was too busy. When the manager finally did speak to her, she said she would help her in a minute. My daughter watched as the manager completed what she was doing, turned and looked my daughter right in the eye AND SHE WALKED AWAY. Fantastic leadership right there. The service at any Sephoras can be hit or miss but this location is always the worst. You've lost a customer which won't mean much to you but when she is at the mall with her friends and tells her friends to skip your store in favor of others, that might hurt a little more as the brand loyalty they are developing now will not include your store. read more

I needed to get a birthday present for my mom and she loves lotions. My wife wanted to go to Sephora for her, so who was I to disagree? I hardly know much about makeup and lotions, etc. They wrapped the gift very nice, but the cashier was a bit snobby. I find the help at H20 and the body shop more friendly. They are a bit different, as Sephora is a more extensive store, offering extensive brands and cosmetics. H20 and Body Shop offer mostly lotions, lip balm and bath shower related items that are their own brands. Sephora carries numerous brands. read more

I've been to this place a few times. Every time the amazonian salesperson, Barbara, completely pisses me off. This last time, when we walk in she's talking to the other sales girl and neither of them even look up at us. After going back and forth to try and find the brand we were looking for Barbara asks if she can help. I almost said "oh, I'm so sorry to interrupt your little tea party." We told her the brand we were looking for. She corrects our pronunciation and motions towards an aisle. Ask about another brand, she repeats the brand in her version of the correct pronunciation and points us towards it. We weren't mispronouncing anything, but that's not even the point. This place gets a five star purely for Carolina, one of the Make-up Artists. I cam here to get my make-up done for a wedding, and was so incredibly excited after my make-up was complete. I'm completely inexperienced when it comes to make up, and I provided an idea of what I wanted - and she absolutely slayed. She worked diligently to create what I would consider a masterpiece (seriously, it was a work of art) and I am tremendously grateful for her help. I like the Sephora store products and the staff is helpful in teaching you how to apply things if you need help. But at this location you never know if you will get anyone to help you at all. Some days when I've gone in here I could not get a sales person to help me at all. They all seemed to be busy doing other things. Then other times they greet you at the door and ask if they can help you. That does not happen as often as it should and this is why I only give 3 stars to them. They need to be more consistent and get more staff to make all customers feel important and be taken care of. read more

Took some convincing but now I am a fan of moisturizers and other lotions and potions. The people at this Sephora are great and very knowledgeable about the men's lines that they carry. The staff will help you with whatever your need is and address your specific skin type (Thanks Christine!). They now have their hooks in me and I am mainly doing a regime with the Anthony line of skincare. This location also introduced me to my first fragrance and now I'm up to 3.5 (I'm counting all the samples as 1/2 :D ) . The fragrance selection here is great (minus the Ed Hardy fragrances *blech*) and the staff will find something that suits you well. So hopefully the products I have gotten here will keep me looking and smelling fresh for years to come. read more
