A young lady greeted me when I came in and asked if I was looking for anything particular and I told her why I was there. She nodded and went back behind the register. She did nothing wrong, wish her the best and hope she finds a better job. An Asian man who claimed to be the owner approached me while I was checking the prices and jotting them down in my notes app. I hadn't even been in the store more than 8 minutes. He asks me what I'm looking for, if I'm looking for something special, what do I need. I gave him the same answer I gave the young lady. He starts to raise his voice and repeat his questions. I'm a young black woman and wasn't prepared to be accosted by a man while browsing leave in coniditoner so at this point I'm just scared and confused. I ask him what am I doing wrong, am I not allowed to check the prices? He said I shouldn't need to check the prices and I should just buy something and why am I writing down prices if I'm not looking for something special. I am a low income young adult so I do this price comparison thing everywhere and have never been harassed or shouted at over it. I tell him if he's worried about me stealing he could take my bag to the front of the store but that he needs to stop shouting at me and that I was just comparing prices so I would know what product to buy. He continues to step into my personal space and shake his finger in my face (mind you, I'm a 5'4 115 pound 22 year old, I have not pulled out my phone and started recording, I have not stepped near him, I haven't even used an profanity despite being treated like some criminal) at this point I drop my purse and put my hands up and tell him to step away from me immediately. I'm both on high alert and high defense because I don't know what he will accuse me of if I try to leave. He says if I don't like how he speaks then I can leave. I told him if he wanted to trespass me he needs to call the police, and they can investigate what has incited him to behave this way. He quite literally refuses to call the cops, so he knows he was wrong. I even offered to call the non emergency line, because clearly he isn't so threatened he needs authority but you also think I'm extremely suspicious for looking to see how much money I'll be handing over. He calls some security guard for the complex who is of course going to do nothing which is fine and not entirely her fault. Idk whether it was racial profiling, or agism, or if he's just some freak with a problem. It was honestly so traumatic and jarring I cried about it for an hour.

I said I was getting shoulder length braids and instead of saying, hey - we have shorter braiding hair for your needs, I was met with - so why do you have such long braiding hair then! I had no idea there was a kids section for shorter lengths. Then I asked for human hair recommendations and was given 2 choices, but no help. Come here knowing what products you want to buy because, by the time you get help, the staff will ask you what items you want. Knowing the product names and what color/shade(s) you want ahead of time is beneficial. If you're a MAC noob, I would suggest coming in during non-busy hours during the weekdays or mornings to familiarize yourselves with products. Weekends all day and some week nights are just terribly busy here! One of my favorite things at MAC, however, is their recycling program where you bring in 6 empty MAC containers and you get a free lipstick or lip gloss of your choice (doesn't include the Viva Glam line). This location only does the free lipstick incentive with the 6 MAC recyclables. It's the best time to try a new lip shade for free! Overall, staff is great but they are understaffed leaving you waiting for what seems like forever. For the most part, they are moderately-stocked on the more popular items compared to the two MAC locations inside the Tyler Mall (Nordstrom and stand-alone MAC stores). 2.5 stars
