I was actually really pleasantly surprised how nice all the associates were the last 2 times I was in and how diverse their staff was. Many of them are in their twenties and some of them have just an ok knowledge of products, but everyone I interacted with was very nice. I bought a pretty expensive serum off of a recommendation and ended up having an allergic reaction (not her fault I have really picky skin) and everyone was very apologetic and the return was a breeze. I tracked down almost every associate in the store to see what they'd all recommend, and was pleasantly surprised at all of their knowledge and their willingness to help. I think they were definitely more willing to help people who seem like they will drop some $ here. Which, in all fairness, they are working a sales floor and this is their job. A good trick I've picked up is leading with "price doesn't matter" (even if it does lol) when asking for help, and seeing what they recommend off the bat. If it's out of my range, then I'll ask if they've found a drugstore dupe for the high end product then compare the two. In general, their selection of drugstore options is WAY more limited than ULTAs is. If you want good dupes and more to pick from I'd go to ULTA. Sephora does offer some high end brands and more expensive products in general, but it's a good place to find a nice addition to my normal product lineup. The bulk of my cosmetic shopping is at ULTA and I save Sephora for special splurgy items. I ended up grabbing a laneige moisturizer (I trust anything k beauty) and a inky list redness serum and both have worked beautifully for my skin. I'm looking forward to trying lady Gaga's foundation line. Thanks so much to the associates that helped out and they also give samples which was a nice perk! I love Sephora, but the staff at the Sephora at 2020 Bond Street, Charlottesville VA are racist as heck. I went inside to get matched. I was paired with a male staff member who showed absolute no interest in helping me AT ALL. He picked out foundations that were too dark, too orange, too gold, or too tan for my complexion. When I disagreed that it was a match, he caught an attitude. So, he picked out a slightly lighter color and I tried both of them--one 9n each cheek and he said, "I like the darker one " I said, "Nooo... it's too dark. The lighter one is a little better. I can work with this." He said, "Well, Remember...summer is coming and you'll darken up." I said, "True but not two shades darker." Then I asked him to match me with a brand that had more range in skin tones and undertones, or a brand specifically made for POC since they have the range of skin tones and understones I'm talking about. I'm light skinned, but the brands he was showing me were crap and only had a limited shade range. I asked to see Clinique's foundations and he said, "But they don't have a powder foundation." I said, " That's OK. That's not a problem. I'll get a liquid." So we walked on over there and he was not helping me match. So, I just decided that I'm not the right color bc a White person was given the courtesy of sitting down at the beauty table and a Sephora staff was with her literally helping her match her foundation. Whereas, the dude I got was freaking lazy an not interested. So, I said, " Thank You! " And he hurried up and walked off to assist a customer. I observed his interaction with her and it was a complete 180 from how he treated me. When I buy make-up products, I spend a lot--at a minimum of $100 because I buy other stuff too--like lip gloss, eye shadows, primers, brushes etc. If he works for commissions only, he missed out on a great sale bc I had grabbed lip gloss, lip liners and a few pallettes but put them back after being treated like I'm not worth helping. This is why I usually shop at Ulta or go to the Sephora'e that are in the mall. read more

We were at the Stonefield shops and wanted to stop in Sephora. Right away when you walk in, you are greeted from two different individuals and we were asked if we needed a basket and if we were looking for something specific. Corinne had walked us to a section that had some skincare were were looking for and then we browsed around. The store itself was clean and well stocked/organized. When we went to get in line to pay, it was a short line that went quickly. The staff talked to each person, talked about the rewards, and Kelly gave me my birthday gift at the register. I don't give negative reviews in Yelp, I usually give 5 star reviews actually because I like supporting businesses that genuinely deserves it, but I am going to give my first 1 star here in Yelp so that they could do something to improve the customer experience. I love going to Sephora in general and the staff were always very helpful, friendly, and I always feel welcomed. This branch is the exception because of what I experienced yesterday. I never felt so unwelcome in a makeup store. 5 stars though for the cashier who was so nice, very welcoming, professional and she made my day. So she was the only exception amongst all the staff in there. I was in the store yesterday browsing for over 10 minutes. I just came to Charlottesville to visit. It is my birthday month and I am very excited to finally get in a store and buy in person my beauty products rather than have it shipped. No one even looked at my direction or even said hello when I came in at the door, nor even proactively asked just very briefly if I need any assistance during the entire 30 minutes of my shopping experience. After 10 minutes in, I have to go to the front section where 2 sales associates were chatting amongst themselves, I asked the sales associate with braids about where to find this particular brand and she proceeded to dismiss me, not answer my question, ignored me and instead said hello to the incoming customer who just walked to the door. You can feel that they choose the customers they want to help. The other sales associate showed me in the right direction, but just briefly. I appreciate that she said to me to go to them if I needed help. But other than that she left immediately and did not try to assist any further. I bought like 5 items all throughout the store and by this time, I've been browsing all throughout the store for over 30 minutes already. I can feel and tell they are selective in who they choose to assist. Because during those 30 minutes of walking on every aisle, most of the customers were proactively assisted, except me. I was ignored. I don't know if it's because I look like I am from out of state, or it's because I am Asian. But it was the 1st time I ever felt so unwelcomed. I never had this experience when I shop in Tysons Corner, VA and in other Sephora branches. I think I am an objective person and it's not like I wanted to be assisted every second while I shop. I think I do deserve to be proactively asked even at least once if they can offer assistance. But not one employee asked, nor even offered if they could help with anything and I browsed almost all the aisles or even said hello to me at the door except the cashier. I only felt the true Sephora customer friendliness when I am finally paying for my products. If you look at other experiences in Yelp with this branch, apparently the other customers feel the same way as I do. The only person that saved my Sephora shopping experience was the cashier. I looked at my receipt to check her name, but unfortunately it doesn't state that. She is what an ideal Sephora employee should be, just like what I've experienced in other Sephora branches on other states, very friendly, helpful, smiling (even behind the mask) and very welcoming. Because of her I was thinking of not doing this review, but I decided to write this so that hopefully this branch could improve the staff's attitude towards customer service, even if the people coming in, like me, who are not locals and just visiting Charlottesville will experience the same Sephora experience all over the U.S. 5 star customer service experience with that cashier on Sept. 4. 1 star to the rest of the sales associates. You should make your customers feel welcome no matter what race they are. I don't think I want to step on this branch again. I love the products in Sephora, but because of the customer service, I'd rather go shop out of state or have online shipment than shop in person in this store. read more

I love Sephora... and you cannot imagine how generous Sephora US is for allowing returns of used and unused purchases. I heard French Sephora does not accept returns.* I have actually dialed down to my purchases but I am able to maintain my VIB account. I love that they give perks like discounts, like the 20% discount a week before Thanksgiving. I would say it's worth buying my favorite beauty products here. Year after year I notice that makeup formulations have gotten so much better. You may be happy with your foundation/blush/eyeshadow now, but believe me, better formulations will come out next year. When it comes to makeup, don't stock up...patiently wait. I don't have flawless skin, so excellent formulations are important to me. I recommend Hourglass and Laura Mercier. Since one of my hobbies is to look at chemical formulations of new products, I get excited when it's available to the market. So, I drive to the Fashion Square Mall to buy whatever I fancy. Unfortunately, these new items are always NOT available at the Sephora there. I hate that Sephora Charlottesville gets LAST dibs on new makeup! Basically, I just go this store to return online purchases that did not work out. JC Penney is also getting it's own Sephora section...hmmm...why? Why have two Sephoras in the same mall? *However, someone who worked in the beauty industry said that beauty stores with liberal return policy REPACKAGE returned items to be sold again. read more

The staff was very friendly and Covid cautious. Upon arrival they asked kindly to not sample anything, but that they'd be happy to assist us with anything we needed. I was assisted by Lauren, who went above and beyond to help me find the perfect fragrance. I wanted to branch out a little and wasn't quite sure what I'd like. She suggested many different kinds, her favorites, and the most popular scents. As someone who is very indecisive, I was so thankful that Lauren was so patient and welcoming. She even looked up the base notes and found fragrances similar to what I like. She literally went the extra mile! They were clearly short staffed, but they didn't make anyone feel rushed or unwelcome. read more

I love coming here! All the employees are so nice -actually humble, not the fake nice retail workers usually are. I've had several workers help me out w/my questions, and everything that's been recommended actually works! (I have oily, acne prone skin) And I've gone to two classes here so far, with Tyler as my instructor -THE BEST! He explains things clearly, asks us questions to make sure we're listening and understand, and overall knows his stuff. Granted some of their prices are high, but you can always come back to return what doesn't work for you, AND if you don't have your receipt, they'll take anything that's no less than half way used (or 3/4 i forgot) for full store credit. While this is not one of the bigger Sephora stores, they have a good amount of products, and I am so happy with their sales associates. A woman named Tori helped me with my shopping, and she was super bubbly, friendly, and helpful with her recommendations. Had a good experience with Lindsay. Sephora (and stores like it) always overwhelm me... I have no idea what I'm looking at but Lindsay walked right up and was just naturally easy to talk to and extremely kind and had deep product knowledge. Another girl (forget the name.. Ashley?) also helped and they both recommended the perfect things for me, and sent me home with some samples that now have my husband hooked also.
