Having tried tapas before and enjoying it, I was open to stopping by here when my partner suggested it.
The waitress came and filled us in the options and specials and pointed out the smaller banquettes we could look at as well. I noticed the dishes weren't particularly cheap and didn't know how big they were, this made one of the banquettes look very good value at $65 a head for 5 tapas dishes, one grill dish and one desert. So we decided to go for this. When we ordered we were told that we also got an entree and a desert plate with 3 different desserts. Awesome!
The Fattouche salad and Ajo bread was the best. The salad with the dressing and radish was perfect and went nicely with the soft garlic bread and chunks of salt are making my mouth water writing this.
We then got a plate with 3 of 6 dishes, on small round plates a bit bigger than your hand. At first I thought they were very expensive when remembering the prices on the menu but then by looking around the room I realised that others where getting bigger portions, so the banquette must have it's own smaller sized platters.
The 6 dishes we got were Hummus Kawarma, Mergeuz, Fritto Mixtada, Gypsy Steak, Calamari & Batata Harra.
The stand outs for me were the Mergeuz sausages which were very nice. The rocket and onion under the fritto mixtada was delicious and the steak was cooked great, juicy and had a delicious char grill flavour, which had drizzled over the chips underneath,
For dessert I tried the Turkish delight, beignet & some other thing I can't remember the name of. The turkish delight is not something I normally eat but I gave it a try and it was very lollieish taste, still not my thing. The beignet was like a doughnut and the chocolate was different, make sure you eat it with the nuts, it was quite tasty. The other thing was a very nutty flavour cake like thing, that was quite nice and I imagine would go well with tea.
I also tried 3 of the beers, the first one being the best and I can't remember it's name and it isn't listed on their online menu, but I can tell you it was the second on the beer list. The top one on the list I also tried was similar but a bit stronger with more burnt taste. The 3rd one Alhambra was quite strong and I couldn't finish it.
Overall a very pleasant experience with some standout dishes. We both wish we didn't get all the fired food in the 2nd platter brough out and felt one of the more salad like dishes should have been swapped in to break it up a bit. A very nice place in the end and by no means a cheap place to eat, but worth the extra money for some very nice food. read more
