THINK TWICE BEFORE HIRING BIGSTEELBOX We took possession of…read moreour brand new home in September 2024 and had our BigSteelBox delivered on the same day. The driveway was damaged during delivery of the BigSteelBox caused by the deck of the truck, which was captured on video. bigsteelbox.com states that "the BigSteelBox doesn't actually make contact with your driveway at all. No contact means no damage!". This may be true but what they don't tell you is that the deck of the truck may make contact with the driveway and cause noticeable damage. We reached out to BigSteelBox and provided videos along with some photos of the damage. The manager came by the house to review the damage and mentioned that he would acquire some quotes to determine the repair cost. From what I can tell, he only received quotes for the application of a brush on patch. From the research I've done and discussions I've had with local concrete companies, I understand that a patch is only a temporary fix that would stand out from the rest of the driveway. I tried explaining this to the manager and said that we would not be satisfied with a brush on patch. Being a new driveway, we didn't think it was unreasonable to expect BigSteelBox to return the driveway to a reasonably new state that looked consistent and uniform. We provided a quote to the manager from a local company to have the driveway sandblasted and sealed which was less costly than having the damaged section of the driveway replaced. The manager came back with an offer of $600 to cover the cost of a brush on patch and would not consider any other options. As an analogy, if someone broke your window, would you be satisfied with a duct tape patch as the repair? I've also sent emails to feedback@bigsteelbox.com and admin@bigsteelbox.com to hopefully reach some kind of fair resolution but did not receive a reply. Needless to say, we are very disappointed with the customer service we received from BigSteelBox and hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

We had two moves with the Bow Valley Moving Company, our first from our home to a storage unit, and…read morethen, six months later, from the storage unit to our moving van. We spent a great deal of time talking with the company about the process, talking about what we needed, and getting to know the ways they conduct business. The first move with an experienced team was wonderful, one vintage basket was broken, and we weren't told about it, but other than that, it was a positive experience. We liked the company so much that we recommended them to the people moving into our former home. The second move was an entirely different experience. Our team showed up late. We asked them to help us stage the order of the boxes and furniture to be placed, which they mostly ignored. We were concerned that our household property wouldn't all be able to be placed on our van, and the staff kept insisting that it would fit. In the process, they stuffed the van full of boxes that we'd asked to be held back. It was a terrible packing job, one with a supervisor who overrode my wishes, and who were responsible for this damage. As a result, the art was shoved into some tight spaces, without adequate protection. We had 2 dozen blankets that I requested to cover fragile items, but still we incurred some losses. We incurred damage to our art and furniture at a cost of $3000. When we wrote a letter to the owner, he didn't respond for over a month. The owner refused to refund us anything to pay for the damages, stating that because our moving van was "not driven by one of our accredited drivers and was instead loaded into a trailer," they had no responsibility for damages. When I wrote to the owner that my husband was a trained truck driver, and that we had provided 30 blankets to cover the art, they simply chose not to respond. I've had some problems with moving companies in the past, they're notorious for not being accountable. But I expected more from this local company, especially after such a positive first experience. Be aware that the company may not have the staff they need to do the best job, and that they will not be responsible for the damages their actions cause.

So frustrating - I called Busy Boy Moving for a quote because of their deliveries for Montauk Sofa…read moreand good online reviews. They came to our home, estimated weight of our possessions, sent a written quote with a delivery timeline of 7 to 21 days (long distance to another province), said driver they'd use was a guy named Jeff who drives long haul for Montauk sofa, he'd use his semi and we could pay Busy Boy by credit card with no additional fee. I discussed in detail with Busy Boy's Dave who assured me that everything would be in good hands, and described exactly how our things would be loaded and transported in Jeff's semi before we decided that was quote we'd go with (was pricey but we felt we could trust and didn't want to take a chance with things that were important to us). After all our possessions were loaded for the move and we flew out of Calgary, things changed dramatically. The amount owing quickly became thousands more than the written quote, claims were made for even higher weight, immediate payment in full for higher amount would only be accepted by cash, wire transfer or other deposits to bank accounts, and possibility of extra fees was mentioned. We worried we chose badly but not anything we could do at that point since payment in full was required before our possessions would be delivered so we kept tone friendly and paid by e-transfers since we wanted our possessions safe but we kept clear records since beginning and this way would have proof of payments as well. 7-21 days turned into 30 days (which is last day insurance companies cover goods in transit) and just before that date, we were told of additional requirement for $1,000 cash payment directly to the driver before we could have our possessions (driver was no longer Jeff and was a kid named Ben Carignan who said Jeff was his dad). We paid Ben by e-transfer who then showed up with all of our stuff badly shoved into a uhaul, complaining he'd had to sleep in it for the 3 days since he left Calgary in it. Uhaul confirmed they don't have a truck with max capacity that could even take the original quote for weight let alone the much higher weight we were told ours was weighed at. The damages to our stuff caused by lack of even at least wrapping things in a blanket were frustrating (bad ugly scrapes, big chips, snapped floor lamp). These were things we cared enough about to move cross country. Driver Ben said reason he took apart (snapped) the expensive floor lamp we'd collapsed and wrapped ourselves was that even though it would fit well into semi it wouldn't fit into uhaul otherwise. They hired a couple of local guys to do unloading. Busy Boy should be ashamed.
