Came here for a meal (quite early) so there were plenty of kids and families about. Apparently the…read morelater you come the more likely you have to wait for a table. The place is cool, a mix between a Mexican/South American and Jamaican type vibe with an eclectic mix of food. The staff are friendly and prompt, the food is packed full of flavor and the general feel is just fun. We had the Jerk chicken wings to start, these guys were spicy hot and tasty, I personally didn't like the amount of skin left on, but everyone at the table seemed to have no issue with it. For mains we had the Goan chicken curry, a mild coconut style curry with coconut rice and a roti. And we also shared the beef tacos. These were my favorite, they were full of spicy, smokey and tasty goodness. Dessert was a Belgian waffle with ice cream and Nutella. The waffle was hot, but quite hard. I feel like a dash of maple syrup under the ice cream would have gone down well on it to make it a little more moist. Overall, great night, good food!

My favourite place to eat in Crouch End, if I can get a table that is!…read more I'm a big fan of their version of jerk chicken! It was a slight bastardisation of what I'm used to, but even though it's not quite authentic, it was bloody lovely! The addition of a pot of peanut sauce is GENIUS! I opted for a coke float, although I was hoping for a can of Ting or some Bigga Grape, but meh, the coke float was pretty great too! Mrs D had a fry-up which looked great, but couldn't compete with my chicken. It's not a cheap meal out, and some of the staff seem to cope with the constant throng of customers better than others, but I love it here anyway, and I'll definitely be back.

I am a regular customer of Jai Shri Krishna, and have been for nearly 4 years…read more I've never had a bad meal there and it's so ridiculously cheap. I love the staff they are friendly, kind and accommodating. They really get to know their regular customers they recognise my voice on the phone when I order takeaway (oh dear haha) and they are always really helpful if you need an explanation of a new dish you are thinking of trying. Disclaimer I am a vegetarian, so obviously I'm going to be more of a fan than your average carnivore. But there are some vegetarian restaurants in London that are a) a complete rip-off and b) really not that great in terms of quality. Here you have simple, great quality South Indian food which is a delight to eat and priced at a level you can't argue with. I also took a bunch of friends for a meal there. It took me weeks to convince them as they're all big meat eaters. But they genuinely seemed to enjoy it. I recommended the masala dosa to them as that's a clear favourite of mine. Highly recommend.

A great old-school French bistro where you can get an excellent traditional onion soup and steak…read morefrites. It's also a cosy place to sit, especially in Winter.

I could judge Bistro Aix on the dull, loud-voiced idiot who was sat at a neighbouring table…read moretiresomely boring his friends (and us) half to death. But that would probably be unfair. Unfortunately the service on the night was also quite disappointing. After being served by every member of staff at some point during the meal, we had great trouble getting the bill from any of them. It was near the end of the night and everyone seemed to be too busy preparing cutlery and so on for the next day. Also, why do wait staff bring the bill and then walk away for another 10 minutes? Do they think it takes that much time to remove a credit card from a wallet? Once the bill was paid, there was no sign of our waiter bringing the coats he had kindly stashed away for us on entering. So I had to go up and request those as well, and on leaving there was not so much as a goodbye, thanks for coming. French restaurant, British service, it seems. On the plus side the food was pretty good, if overpriced in my opinion. And call me old-fashioned, but after three courses I expect to feel full, and on this occasion I didn't. My duck breast was good if unremarkable, but the calamari was excellent. High marks for the ice cream which came with the profiteroles, as well. The dining room has a relaxed, seductively-lit atmosphere and is good for a romantic meal - just ask to be seated away from large groups when you book, perhaps, and wear bright clothing to remind the wait staff of your existence.

Great pizza, great atmosphere!…read more I LOVE this place, and you should never doubt a crowded restaurant even at 9pm on a Saturday night, living nearby I have been here several times, sometimes a little inebriated (ok lots of times) but occasionally not. Normally I just stick to the pizzas, but this time I went the full 3 courses. We had the Bocconcini Fritti (deep fried Buffalo Mozzarella in a tomato sauce) who doesn't like deep fried cheese and we also had Burratina Pugliese more mozzarella and aubergines, WINNER! I stuck to pizza Parmigiana for the main, always good, I love the variety of vegetarian options and pizzas they have available. I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert (which is the best dessert ever), although I definitely want to try the Gelato they are so well known when I go back. Service in there is always pleasant, yes you may have a wait for a table but they are happy for you to stand at the bar and take your name down, so no annoying queuing. Despite it being epically busy we were served quickly, the waitress was happy, helpful and being next to the open kitchen gave us the chance to thank the kitchen staff personally. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this place, they are also on Deliveroo (so you can now get takeout delivered from them), I have a feeling Pizzeria Pappagone may be seeing the most of my paycheck.

I LOVE this place, inexpensive, good honest food…read more It is a real no-frills type of place, I was there recently for brunch when they had a pop-up brunch place there and that's the first time I've even heard music playing in the background and I've been 3/4 times. They give you a menu, pen and piece of paper to order, I live locally and often come with my housemate, we pretty much always order the Thali for 2 people so we get to try a little bit of everything and from the curries we have ordered I have never been disappointed. The Pumpkin paneer is a big hit with us both and the aubergine curry was really nice. I'm a big fan of the breads, and chutneys, I think I could just eat those forever and die happy. It's BYOB which is great, lots of good places to buy wine/beer from locally Tesco, Sainsbury's and there is an off licence opposite. Recently we went as they have Rae's Kitchen doing a pop-up BYOB brunch there, if you are able to catch Rae's Kitchen anywhere else I highly recommend, it's Indian Street Food with a western style, the menu is fairly small and simple but the food was amazing. We were given palate cleansers and she explained to us why they are used and what they were, they were like hollow dough balls filled with liquid which you had to swallow in one sitting - apparently it is a popular competition in the area they are from to have eating competitions involving these. When it came to the main food we actually all ordered the same thing it was a roti roll filled with spiced vegetables, potato, falafel style food with an indian version of homefries, all the food was amazing but I loved the indian take on homefries. Afterwards she gave us a dessert that was a rice pudding style with Nutella and fruit, anything with Nutella gets my vote, this wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be, it was very light and not as heavy as traditional english puddings. We didn't BYOB but we ordered a sweet chai tea and a traditional lemonade both of which were AMAZING as we were all a little hungover. The downside was my boyfriend ordered coffee over tea and it was a very basic kind of instant coffee which was a little disappointing. Overall brunch (which I hope they do again) or dinner this place is awesome, I really hope it continues to grow in popularity as it really is a gem of North London.

I can see that there is a mixture of opinions on this place...so my I just introduce mine as well?…read more One of my earliest Yelp reviews was on a vegetarian Indian place near Tottenham Hale Station...also called Jai Krishna. This place in Stroud Green is very similar in that it is very simplistic in design, but very functional & efficient: As soon as you sit down, one of the staff will bring you a menu and a piece of paper, on which you should write down your order. To me, this seemed to be quite strange at first, but after having come back 4 times already, I actually like it, because you can take your time with your order - no one is rushing you, even though the place gets quite crowded on the weekends. Now, my favourite item on the menu is the masala dosa. But really any dish has been tasty and I recommend ordering a bunch of dishes if you are with a group and then share it all. That way you get a good overview! For dessert (or starter) I recommend their pistacchio lassie...yummy! What I like most about this place is the people who work here: everyone is so friendly and peaceful - especially the lady who works the cash register. She seems to be the lady running this place...but she's just very good-natured! Be aware though: this place is a BYOB, so pop in to the nearby Tesco or Sainsbury's if you want to drink alcohol along with your meal.
