We love senior salsa. We have been coming here for years. I especially love the chicken fajitas and the bottles of Coke and the orange drinks

Skiatook isn't my normal area of operations, so when The Wife told me we were meeting some family for dinner, I got excited at the chance for a new Yelp! review. Senor Salsa was our selected venue for the evening and I'm always down for some good Mexican food, so the evening was shaping up to be a win all around. Our out of town family already had a corner booth staked out when we arrived, so seating was immediate. At 5pm on a Saturday, we were probably just ahead of the curve anyway. The interior is spacious and comfortable, nicely appointed and not overly kitschy. Booths were nice and cushy and overall, very clean and nicely kept. This is kind of a thing with me... I can handle cluttered, but not keeping a place clean doesn't speak well for the kitchen either. Drink orders were taken all around, and menus proffered up. Since I'd already checked Yelp! for some ideas, I was fully intent on the Chili Rellenos, since the photo in another Yelp! review looked most awesome. And then.... as luck would have it, on the menu, I spied the old standby... the bane and joy of my existence..... yep.... Pork Chile Verde. Chile Rellenos might have been on deck, but they got derailed because, as you know, I'm a sucker for Chile Verde. The Wife got a combo of beef and chicken enchiladas, and The Kid went with Beef Nachos. Apparently she gets her creativity from me. Also added was a large bowl of queso, since Yelp! reviewers indicated it was worth getting. Given that there eight in our party, I expected a few minutes at least to graze on chips/salsa/queso, and a few minutes was just what I had. Probably no less than 8-10 minutes later, orders were flying on the tables. Given the potential for confusion, our server nailed it. Everything was perfect and spot on. The Wife's enchiladas were, oddly enough, a combination of beef AND chicken in EACH enchilada, as opposed to one beef/one chicken. She commented that while quite good, they were noticeably lacking any sauce component in the filling. Not bad, just odd. The Kid's beef nachos were ample, well seasoned and well plated. I say well plated because they were nicely spread around and properly topped, instead of dumped on a plate and some meat and cheese plopped on. My Chile Verde was amazing. Spicy, tart, rich and deeply flavorful. Plenty of tomatillos for the freshly acid foundation, and plenty of green chilis to provide the right amount of heat. As usual, I skipped the rice to cut carbs, so I can't comment about the rice, but the beans were on par as well. Nicely cooked, appropriately seasoned and plentiful, the plate was well balanced. Service was also on point. Not to intrusive, but still there often enough to keep all 8 glasses full. Overall, I was impressed and very satisfied with our meal and dining experience. I'd probably make the trip back to Skiatook (from Owasso) if given the slightest nudge.

The salsa tasted like canned tomatoes. We couldn't eat it. Food was in-remarkable and bland.

It looks like it has to have been in a previous life, an old-time, small-town convenience store where you pull in, gas up the boat, fill the ice chest with cheap PBR, grab a pack of night -crawlers and head to the lake. Now, the small inconspicuous building is split down the middle. A dispensary providing medicinal stress relief to the community operates in the west side and the family owned and operated Taqueria El Sabor Jarocho restaurant fills the remaining half. Driving into Skiatook from Hwy 75, the restaurant is unnoticed, and is equally invisible as you leave town headed east; mostly hidden by the vehicles parked under the old gas station canopy. It looks more like a small used car lot. The letters stenciled on the border of the old canopy that once proclaimed the restaurants existence have faded to extinction. Inside there is a small dining area with six tables that occupy the restaurant's allotted half the structure. Somewhere behind the wall in the remaining space is a functioning kitchen. A damn good one! Chips and good mild salsa come with the meal. There are several other varieties of salsa available. All good. The one that was in the little to-go cup was the best. Flavorful, a little smokey and not extremely hot. I bet they have a green salsa too. Hot plates came to the table. My wife had the beef enchiladas covered in an authentic red sauce (not tomato sauce.) Plenty of flavor on the plate, nothing bland. Beans and rice, tasty delicious as they should be. I went with the Mega Burrito. A bloated over stuffed flour tortilla filled with equal amounts of beans, rice, fajita beef, cheese and a little lettuce. The burrito was covered in queso. Excellent! The dining environment ain't enticing, but the authentic Mexican food is. 4.8 stars from over 200 reviews on Google back that up. Very good service.

The chips were thick, fresh and crunchy, they came without any salt so I added some. The salsa was very mild, so if you enjoy milder Mexican food, you'll like it. If you prefer more hotter ask for the hot salsa, you won't be disappointed. Their burgers looked good, and the steak fries looked amazing. If I go back I'll get those for sure with tacos. I think my favorite thing about this restaurant is the interior decor - it's like you're in a log cabin. With Collinsville being such a small town with limited restaurants, I could see this place be very popular. They even have corn dogs! Who doesn't love a good corn dog?

Ah, well maybe that sauce isn't "famous."…read more Several very delicious things we found at Juanita's. The first is the meat she uses. Perfectly seasoned shredded chicken and ground beef filled the chimichangas. And they were full! Great taste. Not bland at all. Next, the red salsa that you have to ask for. The salsa that comes out with the chips is good, but ask for the hotter salsas and you will get a green salsa and a different red salsa. The green salsa is the tomatillo and jalapeno. The different red salsa has a prominent, fresh, lime, cilantro, onion flavor, with red chili flakes, blended with tomato sauce and typical Mexican seasonings. It was an absolute match for the chimichangas with the "famous sauce." And, lastly was the "famous sauce." Juanita's description of her chimichangas ends with "and topped with our famous sauce." That got my interest. I asked the waitress what it was? She seems puzzled, so I pointed at the description on the menu. Her response, "I didn't even know the menu said that." Me," So much for famous." We both got a laugh out of that. Okay, the "famous sauce" is queso that comes on the side for the chimichangas. It may not be famous, but it is excellent! Overall, very good food, at a bargain!!! Right now, many of the Daily Lunch Specials are $6.99. So, for a $20 bill and nickel two people can eat a great Mexican food lunch at a steal of a price. (Be sure to tip!) The sauce may not be "famous," but it is a little more famous now that "you" have read this review.
