The worst rehabilitation facility I have ever experienced…read more The staff seem to work together against you rather than with you, and I rarely receive clear answers when something happens. At times, it feels as though they are trying to hide what is really going on instead of being transparent with the family. This facility has gone seriously downhill, and I feel terrible for anyone who has to depend on it for their recovery. The physical therapy has been inconsistent and, in my opinion, inadequate. My mother walked into this facility and is leaving in a wheelchair, no longer able to walk. That is extremely concerning and heartbreaking for our family. Families should be able to trust that their loved ones are receiving consistent, appropriate care and rehabilitation. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience here.

They were knowledgeable and responsive, and spent ample time with us to help us understand the facility and what we could expect. They also helped us navigate the move. The facility itself is beautiful. The apartments are good-enough sized, with high ceilings that create a real sense of openness, and the dining and common living areas are comfortable and genuinely homey. While the building is very nice, it's really the staff who make this place feel like home. The chef will customize meals to meet individual needs - he's adding my mother's favorite (and unique) sandwich to the menu, simply because I requested it one day. That is service. Everyone on the care team is friendly, patient, professional and caring, and they consistently go out of their way to support the residents. I've had the opportunity to get to know the Memory Care team especially well over the past month, and I honestly can't say enough good things about them. They are exceptional. One rarely hears complaints here, only comments about how lucky we were to find this place. The staff attentive to our every need. Last week six of us got together for a Hawaii evening. We were all either born there or had lived there for a long period, such fun. It's so easy to do things like that. We were detailed and upfront about the condition of our parent and 3 nurses came to review her and assured us at that time the spot was hers, however, we heard nothing. A week and several phone calls later we were told they would not take her. We ended up finding a spot where she is WELL cared for in every way, BUT after literally 7 follow ups with Morningstar, as of 2.4.26, our $1,500 "fully refundable" deposit still has not been returned. THAT'S 3 MONTHS!!! I guess we will have to follow up with the Better Business Bureau and the CA Attorney General and/or the Board that oversees Care Centers. We should NOT get the run around and have to spend our time trying to get a refundable deposit back, it should have automatically been credited to my debit card the day she was refused care at the center, 3 months of back and forth texts, phone calls, and finger pointing is ridiculous.

Post foot fracture, she was wheelchair-bound--so couldn't reside in her 2nd floor apartment in case of fire--but she was otherwise healthy, so not appropriate for skilled nursing or the dementia unit. Off to investigate other options I went. When I found Caring Hearts and met Olivia and her staff, I knew it was all going to be OK - for Mom, and for our family. There are places that take care of your loved ones' physical needs, and Caring Hearts does a great job at that, but I wanted something more for Mom. I wanted a place where they would care for Mom's spirit as well as her body and a team that would work with me to ensure the highest possible quality of life for Mom for the remainder of her life. I got all that and more at Caring Hearts. Unless your loved one needs a very fancy place to live, I would unreservedly recommend Caring Hearts. The people are great, the food is good, they allow you to do "special" things like bring in favorite foods and flowers, and whenever there are medical issues, they are on top of it. (Olivia--not the geriatric physician--was the one who figure out that my Mom was suffering from UTIs. What a world of difference that made to Mom and all of us.) And, as Mom approached end of life, Caring Hearts got us set up with a terrific hospice called Optimal Care. Olivia started in this business because of her grandmother. Her grandmother would be very proud indeed.

Mom was an "opinionated Texas woman." Let's just say Mom could be "quite headstrong and outspoken"…read moreand leave it at that. Then Mom fell and broke everything while out having lunch with friends. The doctors could only pin some of her pelvic bones together and had to leave all the other bones still broken. The doctors depended on Mom laying in a bed for 3 months - flat on her back - to heal. The bed was her "full body cast" while her bones knitted together. But Mom had Alzheimers and didn't remember that she had to lay flat and still. Penny and her Willie Care team watched her, fed her, cared for her for those first 3 months until all her bones knitted together and she could bear weight and get back to rehab. After rehab, Mom was ok with a walker and she returned to Willie Care for the next 5 years as she declined with Alzheimers. Penny and her team have a great facility. It is an Eichler home with a courtyard in the center and views from the living room, dining room and bedroom hall into the courtyard. It is a cheery place. There are fresh oranges, lemons and beautiful rose bushes. The living room is always filled with residents playing games, putting together puzzles and other activities. The residents all take their meals at the large dining room table - a great family setting - with great food. The care team was really good at keeping us informed and helping us navigate her health care needs. They also coordinated with physical therapists that came for Mom. But most of all, Mom's care team at Willie Care cared about Mom. On her final days at the facility, even caregivers that were off duty came by to talk with Mom! They shared great stories about her with us. Penny and her team managed her care through hospice and her final transport to the mortuary when she passed away. We have almost 6 years of interaction with Penny and her team and can only say the best about the level of care, and caring, they provide to their residents and their families.

We spent some happy days with my beloved MIL there. I moved MIL from a country club like larger assisted care Memory Care where she fell on her face and broke her nose within 2 hours of my leaving. It was just too big for her. Board and Care is much more personal with a better ratio of 2:6 ratio of caregiving. My MIL came in a wheelchair and within a month was back to walking with a walker then cane! She perked up being around other seniors and even made a new best friend. The rooms are spacious, and the backyard has a little walking path with flowering plants and fruit trees. Residents and the house and yard are well cared for, and the staff cooks meals from scratch. The staff is professional, kind, and patient. I am thankful there was an opening when my MIL needed it.

By some miracle I was referred to Crescent Villa and was immediately impressed. As the director, Grace, was giving me a tour the elevator door opened and a care giver with his back to the door (so he didn't see us) was stroking a lady resident's hair as she sat in a wheelchair. Some of the staff has been there over 15 years. and I have been by when staff has had in service training- so they stay up on the newest information about patient care. I couldn't be more happy with my selection for my mom. She is mostly happy and content after these last couple of years nad that makes my life easier!
