Queijadas are sold throughout the island. The first time I had them, I didn't buy it directly from…read morethe factory so I'm not sure how long they've been sitting out (they are supposedly good for 20 days). I thought they were just ok. However, my friend and I happened to pass by the factory when we were on our way to another destination, so we decided to stop in to see the factory. The factory itself isn't that big (takes about a few seconds to see the whole thing). Because we saw the ladies wrapping the freshly made queijadas, we decided to order some coffee and try the queijadas there. The difference in the texture and taste of the freshly made queijadas vs the one I bought at the cafe (also from this factory) was HUGE! The freshly made one tasted delicious! Highly recommend coming here to try this Portuguese pastry with some coffee! You won't regret it!

Grabbed some queijadas and an espresso before catching the first ferry of the day to the Vila…read moreFranca do Campo islet (the marina is right next door). These little dense egg yolk cakes are a yummy sweet breakfast and a specialty of the island that all visitors need to try. The queijadas were delicious and we came back another day for more and to buy a box to bring home (sold in souvenir boxes of 6 or 12). This place may be cash only, not completely sure. When we were there at 9am when they first opened we were able to watch the staff wrapping all the individual queijadas. There was also a big bus of tourists that was dropped off right at 9am and they flooded in the small place to all buy pastries, so keep that in mind when planning your stop here - not sure if this is something that happens every morning. You order everything at the counter and there are a few tables inside and some tables out on the patio as well. When I went back it was around 2 pm and there were only a few other people there.

This is the place to start your day while staying in Furnas. We visited here twice while staying in…read moreFurnas. They have a big menu of various breakfast sandwiches, pastries and snacks. Bolos levedos are like an english muffin but so much better. They are light, fluffy and slightly sweet. We tried different bolos levedos breakfast sandwiches like egg, local goat cheese and a chorizo and cheese. You can't go wrong with any of these, you just choose the filling that you prefer for a sandwich. We liked the chorizo cheese one the most because it was warmed and pressed like a panini. We also tried some other sweet desserts that were in the display which were also good. Tasty, affordable, causal start to your adventures in Furnas. There are also lots of tables and seating!

My sister tried the gf coconut bread/cake and she said it was good. I did not try it as it had eggs. The lady at the counter was nice, she helped us as we were not very familiar with some of the items on the menu. It's a very peaceful place. There's tables outside under gazebo or tables under umbrellas. They have outdoor bathrooms and a very beautiful landscape with magnificent views of the mountains, giving it a tropical vibe. Only thing is when you arrive it does get a bit confusing bc there's really no big signs showing the name of the business and it's a typical home and the business is in the back of the house. You'll have to look for the name of the business on the wall of the driveway. Parking is on the side of the road or then on the street in front of the home/business there is parking spots there.
