A very decent Bavarian restaurant, located in the nice old residential neighborhood of Sendling, just below the historical chapel that commemorates the Bavarians' struggles against Austrian invasion.
The atmosphere is classic Bavarian, dominated by wood and traditional paintings. The service was very swift and polite, checking frequently to see if everything was ok- definitely not standard in many Bavarian restaurants.
The beer, as in all venues leased by the Augustiner brewery, is excellent, the classic Augustiner Hell being the most loved beer of Munich residents.
The fare is all Bavarian standards, heavy on meat dishes, although vegetarian alternatives are plenty. The food is well worth the money, the Schweinebraten (pork roast with dumplings) was definitely up to Munich standards, the beer gravy gave off no hint of MSG or of being prepared with packaged powder mixtures.
Also delicious, the Weisswurstgröstl, roast potatoes served with diced bacon and Weisswurt slices. I was pleasantly surprised.
They have various specials during the week - Schnitzel Night or Schweinebraten on Monday, and various promotions. Although this is usually a bad sign, the food quality was definitely satisfying.
One word of warning- the Sendlinger Augustiner is always pretty full during the evening, so you may be asked to share a table with others (a completely normal request in Bavaria).
If you plan on attending with more than 3 or 4 people, i'd definitely recommend calling in advance and getting a reservation. read more
