She and Big Dog Rescue are simply the best and I should know because I have been involved in Dog Rescue for over 40 yrs. I met Dee Ann in the early 90's and was impressed by her relentless efforts to help save as many dogs as possible. She even put together a truckload of donated dog food and drove it to Louisiana to feed and rescue many of the dogs effected by Katrina. BDR has been proven to be very successful for a long , long time in saving and rescuing animals in the Tallahassee area. There just aren't many people with Dee Ann's dedication and drive.... To Bianca, the website is clear there is no "facility", this is a rescue, not a shelter. If you really understood what rescues and shelters go through on a daily basis, you might be a little more compassionate. Everyone has the same goal, and that is to help animals that have been abused, starved, abandoned, in-bred, molested (yes, really), shot, burned alive, poisoned - the list goes on and on. Try a little patience, support and kindness for people who are willing to do what others won't --- it IS a very, very tough job for many reasons. They have bad days too, and not because they got 'lost' but because they deal with the results of mean, vicious, cruel people every single day with much worse agendas than venting with a crappy review. Do you have any idea how many dogs you just deprived of a loving home because you had a bad day and chose not to do your homework? Inaccurate reviews hurt, especially when it's about you, and not about what this rescue does, and that's saving dogs. Help, not hurt.

My home was inspected, my yard was inspected, and the fostering family spoke to me at length before selecting me to adopt one of their rescues. I felt extremely honored to be chosen! After 10 years of caring for my precious Yorkie, Bella, she finally passed, at the ripe old age of 17.5 years old! I am looking to give another little furbaby a new home, so hopefully, I will be able to find a suitable rescue through LCHS once again. This will be the 3rd rescue in 20 years I will have given a safe and loving home. Our cocker spaniel, Roxie, also lived to be over 16 years old! Our home, without a dog, is just no home at all! Keep up the great work, LCHS!

I haven't had a dog for many years but had been considering adopting for about the last year. I checked their website for specific type - due to allergies I was looking for a more "hypoallergenic" dog. I found one, sent a request for information on a Saturday evening around 7pm and immediately was responded to by Erika. I came to see my new doggo the next day (Sunday) and was greeted by Mara outside, who I ended up hugging because she was so lovely. I was helped by Spencer who allowed me some time with the pup, and then allowed some one-one-one time by Cara. I decided to come back the next day to make a decision which was great - they had given the doggo a bath and spayed her. I was provided with medicine, a collar, leash, paperwork, and about a week worth of dog food. The cost for all of this was $30. I named my new pup Blanche and could not be happier. I believe every review should have some balance, so here are small negatives. Someone said the Blanche had been spayed, which she hadn't been, so I had to prep to take care of her which I wasn't prepared for. She was listed as a labradoodle, which she is clearly not (that wasn't important for me, but it might be for others). Lastly, the staff was understandably stressed the weekend I came in. There was an unusual influx of dogs and a lot of drama regarding this. I witnessed a few people being snarky with the staff, and they didn't seem overly friendly at first. As soon as they knew I wasn't there to yell at them, they were all very sweet. I think this reflects on the consumer rather than the staff though - please be kind to these folks! They deal with a ton of crud and they are only looking at spreading love around, in the form of our furry friends.

Not only do I trust them completely with my dog, but the text updates are so very nice when away from your fur baby. I love the idea of my dog staying at a home where he is not in a kennel for a majority of the day like he would be at another boarding place. He gets plenty of play/social time with other dogs. My dog seems to be excited when I drop him off, unlike other boarders he's previously been to. Not to mention the price is much better. I would not advice to leave your dog here if your dog does not so well with many other dogs as they all have free roam of the house, for the most part. Whether scared/anxious or aggressive with many dogs. A kennel will probably do better. For social dogs, this is a great option! Isaiah is professional and very friendly. I cannot reiterate how pleased I was with this service! The entire operation was very friendly and professional from start to finish. Isaiah- our main point of contact for our two dogs we boarded- was so authentic, kind, and professional. I am so happy with the treatment that my two dogs received; you can tell that this place cares about the animals they are taking care of. Our dogs were not held up in their kennels the whole time and were treated like actual pets, not just things that needed to be stored (like other boarding places do). We received updates and pictures daily, and seeing how genuinely happy our pups were was such a relief. The cherry on top was that the boarding family was very flexible with our schedules when it came time for pick-up, as our return flight back to Tallahassee kept getting delayed and we missed our original time. I will not be boarding my pets anywhere else but here!
