We had an appointment for a month to microchip our rescue cat, and knowing he is skittish with new people and nervous in cars, we called ahead to make sure that he came at a time that was best and smooth for him. When we showed up 5 minutes before our appointment, (cat hysterically meowing in the crate) they told us they no longer had microchips. We know other petcos aren't like this but the staff here makes them look bad. What is the point of an appointment if customers cannot trust that the staff will provide the necessary care for your pet? Now we gotta do it again, but not at this location. read more

We've brought our very timid long-haired dachshund to be groomed here for the last couple of years and they are always VERY sweet and gentle with her. She gets so nervous she just shakes when she gets there, but when she comes out each time she is happy and calm. I took my pup to get groomed 1/2 length (because of the cold weather) before his 1st birthday and a groomer Aubrey called after I had already left and said he was too matted. She suggested to cut him short or take him to a private company. His birthday was in four days and I had already taken my lunch to take him. So now I have to try to get someone else before his birthday. I always wash, detangle, and blow dry him myself weekly and know he's not matted. I asked her where he was matted and she said his legs. He only gets matted on his butt and tail. I had literally brushed him out the day before. I have been extremely inconvenienced and no one even offered an apology. I spoke with the assistant manager and I had to keep asking if she was still there because she was completely quiet and only said she was new. I will NEVER take my pup here again. We're here a minimum of once a week, vet visits open to the community periodically (monthly/quarterly?). Puppy play time, supervised by a trainer happens twice a week Saturdays and Sundays. Pal Rewards help make things more affordable. Plenty of variety in food, toys, and treats for dogs, cats, and others. They have a good return policy, which is important. We've had to use it several times, so we know first hand the benefit of needing to return a toy when they're not into it. Feel free to buy stuff, even if you're not sure your pet will enjoy. Certain items you will have to make sure you have your receipt if you need to exchange or return. read more

My Silky Yorkie is a very difficult dog to find the right groomer for. She is a rescue who was obviously abused by a former owner, so she tends to flatten herself as thin and small as possible when she sees a grooming brush (she thinks she is hiding)! Each time I pick her up after a grooming, she is exhausted from shaking and slobbering, and eager to get home to hide in the closet. Recently, however, I've started taking her to Petco, where she has suddenly started behaving much differently when I pick her up. This past week, she didn't seem the least bit upset, in fact, instead of curling up in a frightened ball on the car seat for the trip home, she sat up very alert, looking out the window, and SMILING! She was in such a good mood, even after she got home! I can only attribute this change in her to Tara, her new groomer! She listened to my explanations of Bella's issues, and while I can't say firsthand how or what she did, Bella has never seemed happier! We will be visiting Tara again for Bella's next grooming! My only complaint was the appointment lasted over an hour longer than I was told it would be when I called to check in after it had already been a few hours, so I had to find something to do that extra time. They were really busy, however, so I will cut them some slack! read more

I bring Olivia - my little bichon - here to Petco for grooming. Per usual she is always frightened and shaking when we arrive but the groomers are so sweet and kind to her! Whenever I pick her up she is happy, tail wagging, and I can tell that they take of her. She is a sensitive little pup and definitely clingy so when she is having a good time with others I know they are treating her right. She always looks amazing after a grooming here and they definitely get it right. Wish there was more of a bow selection but that is okay! read more

I've had to change my rating... Not because of the store, but because of their grooming salon. We've used Petco (multiple locations) for years and nail trimming has always been a walk-in service. The last time we went (on a Saturday), we were headed on vacation and we were notified that the girl there couldn't do it, because someone put in the computer that two people have to be present. I don't know why, as only person has ever done it. My dog has never nipped or given them a problem... He is only a bit fidgety. We went in again today and only one person is working on a Saturday. They aren't taking walk-ins, but we were informed that we could come back at 3 pm... Only this is the same person who refused us service the last time, so we know she will do the same this time. We will still use Petco for our supplies, but we won't be back to the groomers... Horrible service! read more

Most recently we had Victoria at the Petco in Tallahassee (Governor's Square location) and she took care of Ridley so quickly and efficiently. I can't speak for other areas of the store but the small pet section has something seriously wrong with it. I bought a young syrian hamster on April 3, it passed away within 36 hours from wet tail. They apologized and refunded me and sold me a female syrian that they said was healthy, she died 5 days later. They did try to give her medicine the day before she died, thanks to Christie at the store for actually seeming like a caring human being, but I stayed up with my hamster most of the night syringe feeding her water/pedialyte and apple sauce/baby food and she passed away on sunday in my boyfriends hands. I had to watch 2 small baby animals die in a week's time. When I brought the second one back to the store after it passed away, they said they had more sick ones in the back, but they still had hamsters for sale on the floor. I am absolutely heartbroken. Will never go to this location again. read more

Took my 18lb 11 year old maltipoo in to be groomed on Friday the 24th. She was in desperate need of a bath and grooming. She was matted and I was prepared to pay extra as I had before in CA. 2 groomers looked at her. It turned out that unbeknownst to me, her rabies shot had expired. They told me there was a rabies shot clinic the next day. That if I got her shot to come into the salon after and they'd make another appointment for me. Which I did. The next appointment was for Tuesday the 28th. I walked 30 minutes back for the 3rd time only to be told, "sorry we can't do your dog, too much matting, she needs to go to a vet groomer, blah blah." Really? They couldn't have said that on the previous Friday? When 2 groomers looked her over? Anyways, the store manager promised 2 free future groomings if I brought her back after she'd been clipped short and the matting had been dealt with. I bought the material, spent hours cutting her fur, etc... Brought her in Wed the 29th. At this point she's drastically transformed. She needs her nails trimmed, her ears evened up a bit, and some minor work on her feet. Again I was refused! I'm taking her to PetSmart on Tuesday and I have no doubt I will be satisfied. This store has an abundance of lazy, unprofessional, unhelpful people. I will never set foot in there again! I was 100% prepared to pay extra to have my sweet tempered dog groomed. I was 100% not prepared to deal with such unprofessional, dismissive, lazy people. I will not be going back. read more

Best pet store in town/biggest? 1. lots of parking 2. fully stocked most of the time because its not only a big store but tally is small so things usually are stocked/never run out 3. Big selection of stuff for dogs (from treats, to clothes, to hygiene, to food, to medicine, kennels/dog houses and beds, etc.) 4. Idk about the other stuff like for fishes and cats etc. I don't have one lol. 5. Grooming section is pretty decent size 6. Adoption area it the front for cats 7. They don't have lot of animals though (like in miami we see more animals like chinchillas and ferrets, etc....here they just have like mice, rats, hamsters, little birds, some fish lol). 8. Dog tag machine in the front by cashiers. 9. one of the few places in town that you can shop with your dogs so its nice. 10. Good friendly customer service (they always are nice to my dogs). Overall, pretty good petstore, at least for dog owners ^^. Its my store to go to for my dogs. Recommend this place over pet supermarket and what not if you like bigger and brighter lit stores especially (other places feel more dim lighted and dusty- its annoys me when i shop lol). read more

I go to Petco often for my puppy's supplies sometimes they have what I need others time no. I've never tried the grooming department aside from getting my puppy's nails clipped & ears cleaned & the groomer is a very sweet girl. She suggested I bring my pup to the social sessions on the weekends. I've been bringing him to the puppy social sessions Saturday's & Sunday's & honestly there's no structure on Saturdays with Thomas. He'd rather have the dogs lick his face & his mouth than put them down or calm the pups enough to interact with each other. I arrived at Petco 10 min after they began, they took a break for 5 mins so I waited until they resumed & THEN I held my puppy in my hand for the rest of the session watching 2 other pups who live together play. He's more into them playing with HIM as opposed to the other pups. I've been coming for a month now & I just don't see the point I might as well bring them to people's houses that I know. At least my puppy will be able to socialize. read more

I have been to this Petco for grooming twice now, and they did a great job both times. However, I was not treated the nicest this second time by the groomer who worked on my dog Maia. Maia had not been to the groomers in quite a while, so i get that she must have been a lot of work. However, I did not expect to get treated like an animal abuser by the groomer who worked on Maia. The groomer had to demat her, for which I got a very rude call about right after I dropped her off. When i picked Maia up, she took it a step further and lectured me on how i should be taking Maia in more often, and thought throwing in a few extra services would soften the blow. Spoiler alert: it did not. I explained to the groomer how i had tried to take out the knots myself but was unsuccessful. She dismissed my response with an "mhm" and went on with her lecture. She legitimately tried to shame and embarrass me, and I'm extremely disappointed. I will probably not come back. read more
