I often wake up and decide I randomly want to get a haircut ‍ my hair grows super fast so I typically don't care how it gets cut, or maybe that's been the case because I haven't found a good hairdresser I wanted to stick with. I think that changed today! I read lots of really good reviews about this place so I stopped in without an appointment after the gym. The place was completely packed, but I only had to wait about 5 min and they got me seated right away. I've read good things about every person here, so I didn't mind who I'd be with. Spring did such an incredible job!!! As soon as I told her that I just wanted my hair to not look so boring or flat, but didn't have anything in particular to guide her other than that, she knew exactly what to do and went to work. She snipped and chopped effortlessly and I feel great :) I wish I had taken a before picture but the moment I stepped out, I snapped a selfie (okay, it just clicked with me! Hahah! Walked in without an appointment, was taken care pretty much right away. I liked that I was asked if I wanted any hair washed before getting started, but opted out since I showered before coming in. I appreciate that because my hair is thin and fine and too much shampooing isn't good for it. I was asked by Lily (I think that was her name) how much length I wanted trimmed off. She also showed me the amount too before continuing on, which is nice because although I have thin and fine hair I still want my length! Her hands were light. My hair feels nice. It was styled a bit before I walked out. My husband has been coming here as well for his cuts but he goes to Spring. I think his cuts look good too! My esthetician recommended Selfie Salon, and I'm so glad she did! I went to see Roxy because I was looking for someone who could do blonde highlights at a lower cost. Where I was going in Encinitas was charging $450 for a cut and color! Roxy is a third of that and worth every penny. Every appointment with her is great. She's funny, smart, and so much fun to talk to. Like any great stylist, she doubles as a therapist. I've been loyal to Roxy and Selfie Salon ever since, even though it's a 30-minute drive from Encinitas. It's nice to get out of the bubble, and the results are always worth it. Got my hair done by Roxy for the first time today and I am in love with my hair! Roxy was so sweet and I truly enjoyed having conversations with her. I could tell from the moment I met her that she is a kind person and knows what she's doing. She is quick, attentive and very efficient. Will definitely be coming back to her! FYI she only takes appointments (no walk-ins) and is best reached by texting her (619-818-8869). She works 5 days a week and is off Thursdays & Sundays. I have been going to Selfie Salon for years and have never gotten a bad haircut. Brian typically cuts my hair but occasionally he isn't available and so I've also had great haircuts from other stylists. It's a very affordable, clean, and overall personable salon and I totally recommend it. read more

You get what you pay for. I've tried Brian twice and I will most likely go back again. Maybe I'll try others. Brian cuts hair. Not much chitty chat. He also doesn't do the whole trying to upsell by suggesting to color my hair. I appreciate that. One thing though is, I wish he'd give more ideas on how to style the hair or style it more than just straighten it. He doesn't wash my hair for the cut, but I shower and wash my hair before going to him so, there's no need on my end. When I'm with him, I'm in and out in 30 minutes and I very much prefer that. No extra frills. Just plain, basic, affordable haircut. read more

I had my hair cut by Thao today, and I love how it turned out. She was attentive and really listened and talked to me about the style I wanted before cutting my hair. Most salons I've been to before just take a look at a picture I show them and start cutting right away, but Thao took her time and helped me understand what cut was best for my face shape. She was very kind, sweet, and very fun to talk to! I will most definitely be coming to her for all my future haircuts :) The salon itself is nice and clean. I called the shop a day before I took my wife to the Salon and spoke to Brian over the phone. I let him know my wife's situation and what she would like to do with her hair. He gave me an appointment time for the next day. We got there at 1pm and they washed my wifes hair and salvaged it as it was pretty damaged. Afterwards, they proceeded to give the Bob cut that my wife instructed them to. The process took less than an hour and my wife left happy with her haircut. I was happy too as it looked great, it was quick and also not as expensive as some other salons. I will definitely comeback to this location for any other needs! read more

My best friend recommended Nina to me and I LOVE her already from my first visit! She did great on my cut and dye; I received loads of compliments!! Spring cuts my hair. I have been going to her for ten years now. She understands my hair and what I like. She has helped me cut my hair to be donated twice and leaves me with a great hair style. I have a lot of hair/thick and as it grows out I am always amazed at how nice my hair styles into place. You can see when it's a good haircut. This is my first time writing a review, only because I felt the need to. My wife made an appointment for my daughter's haircut last Monday with a guy named Brian. He had to be the most unpleasant barber I've ever met. I also later learned that he is actually the owner of Selfie Salon. He didn't even say hello or any type of salutation when we first met him, other than acknowledging he was Brian. He would only answer questions with a yes or no. During the haircut, he didn't say a single word to my daughter such as asking her if the haircut was going okay or if there was anything she liked or didn't like so far, even when he was done with the haircut. The price I paid for my daughter's haircut included a hair-wash, which I didn't know about, and he didn't even wash or shampoo her hair after the haircut. At the end of the haircut, I tipped him $10, which I shouldn't have, and he finally said more than one word; he said, "Thank you." He closed the register drawer, turned around, and walked to the back of the salon. I would NEVER take my daughter back there, or recommend anyone to go there. If this Brian guy really is the owner, he really needs to take a lesson on customer service. read more

LOVE Roxy at Selfie Salon. She has done my hair twice now (balayage and trim) , my daughters hair (balayage and trim) and regularly cuts my son's hair. She is a true gem...super nice human and also does a great job on hair. She is excellent with blond. And did I mention her prices are so so so reasonable....like way way way less than most salons and you're still getting great service and beautiful hair. This salon has the BEST hairstylists! One particular hairstylist I go to is Roxy (phone # (619) 818-8869). Roxy has been my hairstylist for over 10 years). She colors and cuts my hair to precision. She listens to all your preferences; likes & otherwise, executes them to action. She is also a great family person, a loving Mom to both humans and dogs (she has 3 dogs, haha). Please try her skills.. I bet you'll be very happy with the results!!! BTW, there are other hairstylists you could request. Brian, the owner of the salon is also great, based on customers' feedback in the times I have been there. Best of all during Covid, they practice social distancing, the doors are always kept open for better ventilation, they all wear masks, and the spaces are always kept clean and disinfected. Since I had box dye in my hair, he informed me it would be an extra $70 for a color correction. After getting price estimates from other salons, this seemed like a decent price for my budget. I did my research and looked over his website, Yelp reviews, etc. and the photos impressed me and led me to believe he would produce the balayage I wanted. I didn't mind the price for everything I was getting. I sent David photos of how I wanted my hair a few months before I scheduled the appointment. I have been saving up money and planning this treatment for five months which is perhaps why I'm so upset about the original results from my first appointment. When I walked in he briefly welcomed me and then immediately asked me what I wanted done. Since I've been planning this treatment for so long I had a Pinterest album of similar balayages (not to mention he already had the photo in our thread). He took one glance and got started which made me nervous but I trusted him as a professional. Throughout the treatment there was no communication regarding color, length cut, or anything like that. We sat in silence for 80% of my 3 hr. appointment. We made small talk and I asked him about after care, what he was putting in my hair, etc. He curled my hair and when I turned around and saw my hair for the first time I noticed it was WAY lighter than I expected, but I did like it. I left the salon happy. But I never curl my hair so when I saw it natural (wavy/straight), I could see how messy and amateur it looked. There were chunks reaching up to my roots and he basically dyed the bottom half of my hair a rainbow of blonde colors. NOT a balayage. I left a short review on the website and he text me shortly after with a long reply. I sent him photos of how my hair looked and the photo I originally sent him of what I wanted. He offered to fix it for free, so I went back in. Before my appointment he text me to confirm and said "Would be great if you could take down your review," but I'm glad I waited until after the second appointment to review him again. This time the communication was better, however now that a day has passed I see that my hair is still not where I want it to be since he bleached the whole bottom half and effectively made it difficult to achieve a balayage with just toner. I do understand that I did tell David I liked my hair in the salon because at that point I was fed up and wouldn't bother to have him fix it since he already comped this appointment and spent his time fixing it. Overall it looks much better now and is healthy after I cut 4 inches off (which I did to get rid of the dead bleached hair), but I am still going to get it fixed by another hair dresser. Not only that but I asked him for long layers in my hair cut but my hair is all one length. At the end of the day, if you go to David, just make sure you are clear about what you want because otherwise from what I can tell in other reviews he is a good hairdresser.

The right stylist is someone who's not only highly skilled, but also consistent, detail-oriented, and able to perform under pressure. That's exactly who Nicole Alex is. Nicole has been my go-to for haircuts and color for nearly 10 years, and I can honestly say she continues to impress me with her talent and professionalism. I'll admit I'm not the easiest client--my hair is extremely coarse, thick, and often damaged, and I'm not always the most punctual. Despite these challenges, Nicole always treats every appointment with care, patience, and precision. Whether I'm coming in after weeks of being out of town or squeezing in a last-minute session, she never cuts corners . Her work is always meticulous, and the results speak for themselves. I've worked with many stylists over the years, but none have come close to the level of quality and consistency Nicole provides. Despite all the positive reviews, unfortunately I had a very bad experience going to this salon. I…read moremade a free consultation appointment with Kayla a week prior to the actual appointment regarding hair coloring. During the consultation, she told me that my blonde highlights got darker because of "mineral buildups" in my hair from hard water, and she recommended to do a "CPR treatment" following by applying a toner to bring back the blond color (which highlights got darker and more yellow over time). She said that this treatment plan would make my highlights lighter and blonder again. I made the actual appointment, when the proposed treatment was done. After 30 minutes of sitting under the heat with the treatment applied, she washed out the "CPR treatment" 3 times!!!, scrubbing my scalp and later she told me (when I had the skin reaction) that she used a PH 9 shampoo, which is apparently (I'm reading now about it) harsh, and is disruptive to the hair and scalp. Then, she applied the toner, then a leave-in conditioner, that needed to be washed out due to some skin reaction. When she was working on washing it out, she scrubbed my scalp so viguorusly, that I screamed from pain to stop her doing it so harshly. Later in the afternoon, I started to feel an inflammatory type of severe pain on the back of my scalp. It got worse since yesterday and I don't know what really happened to my scalp, skin, tissue, or nerve, but whatever injury happened, it is extremely painful. Regarding the result of the treatment, nothing that promised was achieved, my hair feels like it got a little darker and making my highlights blonder didn't happen. Kayla told me after drying my hair that she was surprised that her treatment plan didn't work on my hair. What is much worse than not achieving the promised result is the severe pain on the back of my scalp.
