    Uneven tattoo
    Elisa T.

I was bummed but my experience. First tattoo, I was really nervous. I got it done and I noticed it was uneven, but I thought, "I'm not an expert, he knows what he's doing, right?" And then it was over. Afterward, my sister (who is covered in tattoos) told me it looked awful. The lines aren't all fully connected and they are uneven. When I emailed the artist about it, he pointed out out that no one whatsoever has ever contacted him for a fix. At that point, I didn't want him holding a needle to me again. I was really disappointed with my experience here, especially after reading such stellar reviews. On the plus side, got my nose pierced here, and Chloe was great.

Yesss I just popped my tattoo cherry with Walter (aka nametaken_tattooer) at self-inflicted studios. I came in to make an appointment a week ago and left a deposit of $50. I also sent an email about the ink quality and they replied quickly, letting me know that their inks are high quality and vegan. They most often use Eternal Ink, Dynamic, and Fusion. Deposits are not refundable. The process was pleasant, seamless, quick, yet detailed. Walter really cares about his clients and the quality of work he delivers. He is also a sweet family man. My small tattoo consists of two Chinese characters and it took a total of 40 minutes. He told me it will take roughly an hour so I felt better that it was over sooner. I am definitely coming back. Thank you. My tattoo is healing very quickly and I bled very little. Super content. P.s. if you park in the streets, make sure to pay the meter. You'll get a fine if you don't.

I love the way my tattoo turned out. It was a sudden session. I did not plan on getting my tattoo the same day I visited for the first time, but I am in loveeee with what I got. Healing took about a week and a couple days. Very professional studio, clean and everything is sanitized well. I love the patience my tattoo artist had and will go again for any medium-sized tattoo once I'm ready for a new one. Prices are quite high, but if you want clean, precise work done, I say visit Self-Inflicted Studios.

I cannot say enough positive things about this shop. I've been to a few other shops and if you want all your tattoo money to be spent in one place, well this is it. First off I want to give a shout out to Phil Wahby. He is not only a great tattoo artist, but he is a good person and genuinely cares about his work and his craft. You can see in the end result. My inner ankle was a rough rough spot but he talked me through it and we got it done, and is one of my most well done pieces I have still. Since then I've gone back for a total of three by Phil and it will be more. It's easy to book and saturdays are walk ins for Phil :) I had my dice done here as well by a different artist which I love. The pricing is so reasonable and fair for the quality of work that you will get. I've noticed the positive energy in the shop, with other artists checking out the work and giving encouragement and such. Very clean shop. Hope you have a wonderful of an experience as I have. I'll be seeing Phil soon for my flaming skull!

My fiance and I got matching tattoos by Zach "Panda."
    Ellen L.

I scheduled an appointment in advance as I would be in from out of town and wanted to get a matching tattoo with my fiance while we were on our trip. Of all the shops in St. Louis, I am so happy I ended up here and could not be happier with my artist Zach/Panda! He is young but definitely talented and I would recommend you check him out. I could write a lot more about my experience but I'll just say that from start to finish, from my first phone call to our final tattoo, we were treated very nicely and we got exactly what we were looking for. As for the price, this is not a "cheap" tattoo shop. If you're looking for a cheap tattoo, go elsewhere. I have 13 tattoos and I paid about what I would have expected for this one, based on past experiences. Maybe a little more. But it's worth every penny when you get something done beautiful and right that will be on your body forever.

Adrianna Maria is a phenomenal artist and I highly recommend her to anyone! I've seen her for my last four tattoos and she never disappoints. She always makes sure to take her time and pays attention to every little detail so that I am 10000% happy with my art before I leave. I can't speak highly enough about her as an artist or as a person, she goes above and beyond to make you comfortable and to give you exactly what you want. She does amazing black and grey tattoos but is also great with color!

This place was awesome. My best friend and I wanted to get matching tattoos, but our idea for them was a little odd, so I worried about finding an artist that could do our idea justice and make the tattoo a great memory that my now-long-distance best friend and I could treasure. We didn't make an appointment, just came in as walk-ins, but everyone was super welcoming. We told the guy up front our idea for the tattoos, and he told us that a guy named Nate would love to do them for us and he to us they'd be $70. Nate was super nice and talkative, and he joked with us about the little soot sprites we were getting the entire time we were there. After the tattoos were done, he instructed us on properly caring for them, and he was very clear. Both my best friend and I tipped Nate personally, $10 each, and he followed us back up front and told the guy to only charge us $50. It goes to show what appreciation can do :) My best friend and I love our tattoos. They're a reminder of a friendship that has lasted 15 years, and hopefully will last for many more, as well as representing something special and odd about ourselves. I couldn't be happier.

This place was awesome! I got my first tattoo here and they did exactly what I wanted to a T. Super clean shop and all of the guys were super nice! Definitely plan to go back. Jeffrey & Panda were awesome!

I had Dustin and he was absolutely amazing. Love the work he did. If I lived here, I would go back and have more work done. Very clean shop, very helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Awesome tattoo that Panda drew up for my wife. We are from out of town and he worked on drawing it all night and she got it next day!!

We are from out of town and saw the great reviews! Stopped in and my wife told Panda what she wanted and she had a rough pic. He stayed up that night drawing it. She came in next day and got it done. 7 1/2 hrs...serous tat!! Definitely come back!!!

I did at least 5 consults at different local shops, and even branched out to the Chicago area, thinking it would be worth the drive to get the permanent work that I'd be happy looking at every day. The consults ranged from 'meh, I'd settle for this' to 'wow, they don't get my idea AT ALL' to downright freaking rude. Little did I know, *my* place was hiding in Benton Park. A coworker heard I was not having success finding an artist, and suggested I reach out to Lucky Cat, where he had had one of his tattoos done. I emailed Amelia, set up a consult, and sent her my artwork. Literally from the first 5 minutes we spoke, I knew she understood the vibe, thought it was a badass tattoo, and that we would get along like friends. When you're doing a big piece, you sit for hours and hours while this other human inflicts pain on your body. Also, did I mention tattoos are hella expensive? Well, all that is to say, it was worth every second and every cent. I trusted Lucky Cat (and Amelia) with my artwork and vision, and was NOT disappointed. Shit, did I get lucky. Since that first sleeve, I've been back several times, and covered both arms. I've also got 2 beautiful thigh pieces from another artist there, Aidan Monahan, and I'm in love with them. I'm a HUGE fan of Amanda's art, and hope to get a piece done by her someday too. As far as the space itself, it's super comfortable, super clean, and very easy to spend multiple hours in. They also have a really cool gallery space attached, and frequently hold popup events supporting other local artists. They're honestly a St. Louis gem, and we should feel incredibly happy they put roots down in this little space.

The tattoo area itself is an open space but they do have privacy curtains should you desire them. It's also probably one of he most well-lit tattoo parlors that I've been in. Be aware that wait times here can be long depending on which artist you wish to see, but in my opinion it's worth it. This is also one of the only majority-female tattoo parlors in the Saint Louis area.

I was incredibly happy to be met with such radiant positivity and not an ounce of pretentiousness that can be present in some tattoo businesses. The woman working the front area checking everyone in was incredibly personable and kind. They followed strict COVID guidelines as well! We are not from St Louis, only here visiting, and wanted a quick flash tattoo. She brought out other options to look at other than the flash that was hanging on the walls. She asked questions and was genuinely interested in what we wanted to get. There was a man and also another guy (who had just turned 18) and they were both getting their first tattoos and she was so kind to them, answering any question they had. My friends and I each had different tattooers and they were SO FAST. I am so in love with the work they did for all three of us. The person I was working with even noticed I was wearing a nice shirt (this tattoo idea was last minute so I didn't have time to change) and he covered me up to make sure no ink got on my shirt. 100% recommend this shop!!

I spoke with him and he listened and helped me and looked over with jewelry with me. I felt bad because I assumed I was holding up others that came in behind me but a young lady stepped up and helped so he could be more attentive. He told me someone would be coming up and there was a nice lady Bayle that helped me. She was amazing and very detailed and she tried to see if my piercing was still open but it closed up. She told me about aftercare but it was completely different than the place I went to before which I appreciated. She told me what would go with my face and nose shape and also helped with letting me know if some would turn which would cause irritation. She gave a lot of little words of advice even if I don't come back since I don't work in St. Louis. I am happy I didn't stay at the former place.
