Merill Strauss greeted us and told us about the pieces, the history, and helped us understand a bit more about the artwork and how it's assembled. Look for incredible colored glass exhibits from famous artists. You can see many of these pieces in Museums, businesses and mansions. Some pieces are far larger than chandeliers and have delicate "petals" coming out like flowers. I can't wait to go back and see what they have in store for us.

I've been wanting to go here for decades for their Third Friday events, but I've somehow never made it. So getting to attend an event there was a great way to finally see the space. They have their own parking lot, which is a huge plus because parking in this area can sometimes be a little hairy. Once you walk inside, it's a big, open space that is set up for banquets and events. They host weddings and other types of gatherings, and there was plenty of room for everyone. They had high cocktail tables as well as lower tables where you could actually sit, and everything felt nice and roomy. I was also impressed with the acoustics. There was someone speaking on a microphone, and there was no annoying feedback or echo. You could actually hear what everyone was saying, which can be surprisingly hard to find in a large event space. The food at our reception was mostly finger foods--hummus, ranch, salsa, chips, pita bread, vegetables, what looked like couscous, a small salad in a cup, and fruit. Nothing was particularly spectacular, but it was good, easy-to-eat food for an evening reception. Now, the homemade cherry Coke was another story. WOW. I haven't had one that good in a long time! I definitely wasn't expecting that to be one of my favorite parts of the evening, but it was amazing. There was also beautiful glass artwork throughout the space, which I'm assuming was made right there at the studio. The decor really adds to the atmosphere and makes the venue feel unique. If you're looking for an event venue that is different from the typical banquet hall and has something interesting for everyone, I would definitely check out Third Degree Glass Factory. I'm not sure what other food options they offer for events, but the space itself was very nice, felt safe, had great parking, and I loved all of the glass artwork and decor. I live downtown just a block away and I wanted to help paint the board ups. I don't currently have paint at my house but when I heard paint was being delivered for folks to come and paint the board ups, I headed out. Bryan, the owner of this gallery was there with a design in his head that would cover every single broken window on the street. Also, his design was very juvenile and crappy compared to the board ups that have been painted on Delmar. He wouldn't let anyone touch anything and we were certainly am emphatically told we were not allowed to paint. We were allowed to clean up after him if we wanted to. Ha! Screw that! I am an artist. I would've been a wonderful asset to this project. The only reason he's doing this is because he wants exposure for his gallery. I get that most artist are not team players and are used to working alone but this is a community event and should've involved all the people in the community that wanted to be there. When I arrived there were at least a dozen people there to help. When I left about 20 minutes later, when I realized I would have no input or ever see a paintbrush in my hand, there were two people left-- NO THANKS! I will never patronize this man's gallery or patronize him as an artist. Shame on you!

I decided to commission a painting by him based on others that I had seen on Instagram. The gallery arranged everything, including shipping.
