Rather than sending me on my way empty-handed, she checked her own supplies and generously provided me with the safety pins I needed, even though I wasn't purchasing anything from the store. In a world where customer service often feels transactional, Julie reminded me what genuine kindness looks like. She took the time to help someone who wasn't even a paying customer and did so with a friendly attitude and a willingness to go the extra mile. If this is the level of care they show to a walk-in looking for a few safety pins, I can only imagine how well they take care of their actual customers. I brought my sewing machine in for service and had one of the most uncomfortable customer service experiences I've had in a long time. Instead of simply telling me whether the machine could be repaired, the staff actually laughed at me when they saw how old it was. I understand that not every machine can be serviced, especially older models, but there's a respectful way to communicate that to a customer. Being mocked for bringing in a machine I care about was completely unprofessional and unnecessary. If the shop doesn't work on older machines, that's fine--just say so. But laughing at a customer and making them feel embarrassed for asking for help is not acceptable. I left feeling dismissed and won't be returning. read more

This is the best sewing store. They carry a vast line of machines, regular, sergers, embroidery machines. And when I went in initially I wasn't sure what I wanted but they were super helpful and helped me to narrow my search. I've had my machine for two years now and I absolutely love it. It has all the features that I wanted, and a few that I didn't even know I would love. And it wasn't too much, it didn't have a lot of features I didn't need, and the price was great. First service on a machine purchased there was discounted which was super helpful and as a machine buyer I also get a small discount on accessories for the machine. They have a great service shop, they have lots of technicians and they really know the machines. I've had it serviced there twice and I've been very happy. read more

Went to Select Sewing yesterday and the man at counter was really rude. Told me as I walked in that he does not service Singer machines. He said he looks at them and if something he can do in 15-20 minutes he would but he cannot get Singer parts. So I asked if he knew who does and he said no one in the city, go to KY or Chicago. So I said I heard Joann Fabric did, he said good luck, (sarcasticly)then he told me I need a new bobbin winder. As I began to walk out he said he had a machine he could show me. I left there and went to Joann's and they do service Singer machines and I did not need a bobbin wi der as he said. So if looking for a repair for Singer machine or any other do not go there. We were considering purchasing a singer sewing machine for our 10 year old granddaughter for Christmas when by chance my wife met Marlynn, who works at Select Sewing and she explained why we should consider a Babylock Anna. I stopped in the store and Cathy happily spent some time with with me demonstrating the Anna and answering my many questions. After a week of research we decided the Anna was a superior machine. When i went to the store i told Cathy that i had found out online that the Babylock company was offering the Anna at a special co-op discount in some stores in Chicago where my granddaughter lives. Select Sewing matched the price without any hesitation! We purchased the Anna and my granddaughter is thrilled with it. My antique Singer was just cleaned and repaired by Select Sewing. I am so pleased with the service. My machine belonged to my great grandmother and came to me in working condition. However, years of dust and dirt had taken their toll. It now looks better than new and I know I will be able to give it another 60 years of use. The price I paid was as quoted, the repairs were completed on time, and they even fixed a cover clip that I thought was beyond repair (and so I had not even asked them about it). Visited to check out the Baby Lock Tiara ll, and their very professional and friendly staff was so helpful I bought one, even though I could have purchased one much closer to home. Coming back for lessons (included with a machine purchase) is something I'll look forward to even at an hour's drive away! Chris, the store manager, is delightful and very knowledgeable. I bought my first sewing machine here in 2008, I really didn't know what I was looking for or even what to look for in a sewing machine. Select Sewing's owner, Karen, was on hand to walk me through several of the more basic models of sewing machines explaining the features and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Once I decided on which model I was going to purchase, I got an individual lesson on how to use the machine - from threading it to using all the features. She invited me to come back any time if I had questions and they have a 1 year warranty on all their machines for service. They do a lot of repairs at Select Sewing, and you do not have to had bought your machine there for them to do the repairs. I think they must be one of the only, if not the only sewing machine repair shop in the area, so they are usually pretty busy, so there is usually around a 2 week turnaround time before you get it back. They have a huge selection of machines available from a variety of brands, ranging from the most basic beginner machines to the most advance computerized ones that basically you just push a button and it sews for you...they also have sergers and quilting machines, and tons of accessories and notions. Basically anything sewing related you can think of, besides the fabric. They host the Indianapolis Modern Quilt Guild's monthly meetings and they also do a lot of classes here too - my only complaint is that most of the classes are only offered on weekdays during the day, so working stiffs like me are out of luck! They are very friendly and customer service oriented, you will always get lots of attention when you come in to browse. I am a big fan of Select Sewing. Being an entirely self-taught sewist without a lot (really any) people in my life that also sew, this place has been a godsend. read more

My mom lives in Northwest Indiana but she comes down to the Indy area often and thought it would be more convenient to drop her Babylock machine here for service. I dropped it off the first week of May and was told it would be 5 weeks for service. That's longer than any other place has taken but we figured they were a dealer so I left it there. My mom called the next week, the gentleman she spoke to said he knew what was wrong with the machine but since it was 10 years old the part would need to be ordered aftermarket. And it would be five weeks. Five weeks later she called and they hadn't even started on the machine. At eight weeks she called and they finally opened the machine for service but hadn't bothered to order the part eight weeks prior! Then when they tried to order it the dealer they work with didn't have one so they took a used part off an old machine they had. She still paid the original price quoted because it took them so much time and labor to find the part. So she was almost nine weeks without her machine that she uses for her sewing business. Needless to say we will not ever do business here again. We also found out that Babylock takes absolutely no responsibility for the actions of their dealers even though they only sell through their dealers so buyer beware. Just an update, not even a month later and the machine is already broken again, exactly what was wrong in the first place. So disappointing! read more

I purchased a Pfaff machine there 2.5 years ago and continue to be delighted with their service. The machine was hesitating when stitching this morning so I took it in. They immediately took a look and found the problem - when threading the machine, I had missed a step. They educated me on how to ensure that doesn't happen again, and gave me other tips to look for when I have problems. All this for no charge. This kind of service makes the amount I originally paid for the machine even more of a bargain. If you buy a machine from them, they will reward you with excellent service. I took my sewing machine in there and told them what was wrong, the gentleman said first of all its not threaded right and that is a lot of problems with sewing machine.
