It was time to get some new sunglasses and I thought I would support one of the local opticians/eye glass stores. Upon entering Eye Care Optical Center in South Miami (next to the Seafood Market and blue roofed stores) I was greeted by Michelle after just a few minutes of browsing. The store was packed with customers. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and actually gave me back honest feedback on how different frames looked on me. I agreed with her likes and dislikes. I thought I might shop around a bit more and visit other stores, but she was so nice that I decided to just go for it. I settled on a frame and wanted prescription and polarized lenses. The total was $300. Expensive, but the frames looked better on me than the ones from Costco. Several weeks later, my prescription glasses were ready. I sit down to try them on with a totally different employee. As soon as she takes them out of the plastic bag, I notice she has a weird expression. The second I see the frames I realize why. They must have been the display frames because there was a huge scuff mark on the bridge. Also, there were scratches all over the plastic frames. I could not believe that they were going to try to pass off old, scraped up frames as new. I tried them on to see if the prescription was alright. I asked the employee how they looked. She said they looked great but I could tell she was nervous, waiting to see if I would say anything about the damaged frame. I finally indicated to her that I was aware of the scratches. The employee begrudgingly apologized and said that it would be another couple of weeks before the sunglasses were ready (with new frame). I would have appreciated if the employee had immediately apologized when she noticed the error instead of waiting to see if I would fall for their scheme. There are so many other places to spend your hard earned money. If you decide to still purchase anything from here, then please check your frames and lenses carefully. I won't be returning.

Mary and Jenny are the best opticians, I have ever bought glasses from. Dr. Koven is the only optometrist I have ever let give me an eye exam. I hate getting my eyes dilated .. It's uncomfortable and makes my eyes sleepy ... But Dr. Koven makes me comfortable when I see her and I know my prescription is on point. I always say, you get what you pay for. If you want to take the stress out of getting a new prescription and purchasing new glasses go to the eye care!

After two hours, I went to the desk and they were surprised I had been waiting so long. And yet, I then waited another hour before I was called to see Dr. Raja who never apologized for the wait and seemed disinterested when I expressed disappointment with having to wait 3 hours. Additionally -- I was told prior to coming that my appt could include an exam not only with the opthalmaologist but also for prescription assessment by the optometrist -- but by the time I finally got to see the opthalmologist, and was then due to see the optometrist, I was told the optometrist had left for the day. Again, no apology, nor an offer by the opthalmologist to do the prescription-related exam, certainly something he was capable of doing. Further, he rcommended I get catarac surgery. When I asked how bad my catarac was on a scale of 1 (not bad) to 5 (bad), he said 1. The recommendation, therefore, seemed to me to be in service of his business and not in service of the patient. Poorly and carelessly run business.

While we waited for the optician to take my mothers orders I tried to find her frames and price the lenses. The sales person explained that it was to make up for their loss on the "free eye exam." of the eye exam. Of course, they billed the insane were paid for it. With $400 she was only able to get a pair of single vision glasses in a regular frame... no major name brand. They did not even give her the scratch resistant or the UV protection as included in the plan. By the way, they wouldn't sell my mother glasses with the prescription she brought from her ophthalmologist- no outside prescriptions they said. I'm not sure that's even legal for them to do.
