I would like to start this review with the tip that if you have any kind of disability that affects your speech. I urge you to look for appliance repair elsewhere. It will save you a lot of frustration, tears, and embarrassment.
A little over four years ago I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Unfortunately this greatly affects the ability for me to control and move the right side of my face due to paralysis caused by the TN. Because of this, the fact I am new to the Carolinas, especially the Tryon area, and do not have anyone to easily call on my behalf. Whenever I seek assistance with various repairs or services I first try to see if the business has some form of online contact through email, FB messenger, text, or something along those lines. Simply so that I may explain my needs, my situation and make it easier for everyone involved. Sadly, I was unable to find anything of the sort with Security Appliance. However, due to the abundance of referrals made by neighbors, local antique dealers, (my appliances are vintage) and my wonderful mechanic (whom worked with David of Security Appliance at one point and I believe is related in some form). I felt comfortable with going ahead and calling.
I called around 3PM on January 25th, 2018 and left a message stating my name, number, that I was located in Tryon and seeking someone to look at my oven/stove and refrigerator. Much to my surprise I received a returned phone call at 5:37PM the same day. A women who identified herself as Joyce/Joan/Joanne, something along those lines,. Stated she was with Security Appliance and returning my phone call. From the very get go I could tell that she was very rushed and agitated. I imagine this was due to calling after a long day as it was after hours. She was very aggressive with the way she spoke to me, hammering back to back questions prior to me being able to possibly answer the others. She also was talking to someone else that was with her, I assume this was David. When I asked for a moment to get upstairs so that I could look at my stove and fridge to better answer her questions she became even more agitated. Even making backhanded comments in regards to me not knowing the answers right off the top my head when it came to make, model, how they were installed etc. My appliances are from the 1970's and I had to bring some workers in to customize my kitchen to accommodate. I did not personally handle/oversea this work hence why I wasn't completely sure. After clearly being dissatisfied with my attempt at answers regarding my stove/oven she swapped to my fridge. I told her that it too, was vintage and before I could utter another word she very vocally said 'well, I guess maybe you should speak to David, who just stepped out as I have never heard of that company!' Taken back I realized that maybe she wasn't understanding what I was saying as I do sound as if I have suffered a stroke. I had to interrupt her as she was continuing rant and rave about the entire situation. I told her that I had a disability, that I was really trying to communicate the best I could with her but it effects my speech and asked if she could quit yelling at me as I wasn't sure if she knew what I meant by 'vintage' as it wasn't a company. She then became even more aggressive and accused me of implying she was an 'idiot' by asking if she knew what I meant by vintage. I interrupted her again as by this point I was in tears and said that I agreed that I should just speak directly to David and asked her to have him call me. She mumbled something and hung up. Well, it is now February 4th, 2018 and David never contacted me. I am extremely bummed about this as I am now back at square one. My hope in leaving this review is that one of them sees this and maybe next time, they will show the slightest amount of compassion to someone with a disability. While I understand the minutes of frustration that was clearly felt on their part. Imagine the frustration, embarrassment, pain, and anxiety I have had to face, every day, for the last four years. To be honest, this type of situation has been one of my largest fears in life and for the first time, it came true. read more
