Our 1TB hard drive suffered a fall and we feared the worst. Indeed, upon plugging in, the drive started suffering a periodic clicking sound. Quick research stated the drive head was destroyed. Scouring the web landed us with Secure Data Recovery. Alec Sakenes, great guy, was knowledgeable, quick and supportive throughout the recovery process. They had a drop point at Basscom Towers, they overnighted the drive for free. Diagnosis came back with Yes they can recover, but it will need clean room action. The price brought a tear to my eye, called up Alec and hoped he could help out. My 4TB USB hard drive started to have slow down issue and had failed before I got a replacement drive to transfer all my data to. I reached out to Seagate, the manufacture of the drive, and they have quoted me an recovery price, however, with a mandatory $100 assessment fee either if the drive is recoverable or not. I found the fee absurd and looked for a better service else where and found SECURER DATA RECOVERY. The agent I talked on the phone was really informative and took me through the process with ease. Luckily, they were able to diagnose the drive with read error issue and had to transfer all data in a clean room environment. If you are reading this review, I feel your pain. Believe me.... 8 years of pictures and the first 2 years of my son's life all on a bad hard drive. What to do, what to do..... Here is my story. I thought I would be "cool" and get a network hard drive. This way I can access pictures, movies, music from any room in my house. Unfortunately, this Iomega drive (very expensive) went bad. Iomega's response, "to bad for you, we no longer support". My wife is yelling at me as all our pictures are gone, I feel like a bad dad for not backing up the backup. What a mess. I go to fry's for help, I talk to some tech guys at work, but no solution. I find Secure Data Recovery and the clouds part, and data is recovered. I have an external USB hard drive where I saved all my old pictures, project documents and important personal information. I am using this drive for over five years. Recently, the drive was not powering on. I thought it might be the power issue. I removed the drive from USB enclosed case and tried to use another case to retrieve those data. Excellent service! My husband had gotten really, really slack about backing up (like many of us!) and had an abrupt, fatal hard drive crash. Rob Anderson at Secure Data Recovery was super helpful, and walked me through the process of getting the drive to their clean-room facility in the quickest way. They got the recovery done pretty quickly -- these things do take time, modern hard disks are big! -- and shipped the data back to us on Husband's brand-new external hard drive, which he now plans on using for backups regularly. They were able to recover almost all the data. The service was expensive. That's not a comparative comment, just a fact of life. The data loss would have cost much, much more. My only complaint was that the initial estimate was about 20% lower than the final cost of the recovery. It may well be that doing estimates for this work is just difficult, but I was a bit taken aback by the final bill. Bottom line though: if it happens again, I'm not shopping around. Great service! I had a broken drive with about 10 years of photos of weddings, trips all over the world and a ton of other work. I had tried a couple of 'DIY' applications like drill disk to get something back myself and everything failed. They managed to get everything back (including every folder and file name) and even some folders i had long since given up on. Unfortunately they could not recover any data from my external hard drive, and stated it was irretrievably lost due to extensive damage. They charge $19.99 to ship your drive back when they cannot retrieve any data, so I paid the fee and tried another place that was able to recover a small percentage of the files at least, including some critical files. read more
