This is our second all-inclusive vacation this year, and was definitely a five-star experience overall. We stayed 8 days/7 nights and had a blast! Secrets Silversands is an adults-only resort located in Riviera Maya, just south of Cancun and in a newer development (resort is 6 yrs old). I previously gave 5-stars to Omni Cancun back in April but Silver Sands is actually better in terms of food quality, night time entertainment, room size, pools, and powerful and free wifi throughout the property! Below is a more detailed write-up of what we experienced: WORLD CAFE: Their main breakfast and lunch buffet. Huge selection and the food is surprisingly good here, especially braised and stir-fried meats. They also have a smoothie and omelet station. 5 stars. BAREFOOT GRILL: Overcooked burgers made to order but their fried chicken wings were phenomenal. Little drums covered in seasoned, powdery bread crumbs and fried to perfection. The meat was so soft I couldn't believe it. 4 stars SEASIDE GRILL: Another poolside casual place specializing in grilled fish, shrimp cocktail, and ceviche. Pretty decent and a good option for late lunch. You're surrounded by revelers playing pool volleyball in a Spring-break type atmosphere. 4 stars. HIMITSU HIBACHI: You need reservations for this Benihana-style experience. The chef showed some nice knife juggling skills and created some nice special effects with a smoking stack of onions sliding down the grill (choo choo train) along with some pyrotechnics. They use butter, garlic oil, and tequila to cook Asian cuisine which came out pretty good! Fried rice, sauteed chicken/beef/veggies were incredible. They even had a nice soy sauce laced with green chili peppers to add some kick! 5 stars HIMITSU: They have pretty decent nigiri options - rice was firmer than I liked but seasoned well. Toppings were tender and tasted fresh. Their hot dishes were underwhelming compared to the hibachi though - stir fried beef was over-sauced and too sweet, fried tofu appetizer under seasoned, and fried rice had a glutinous texture. I'm wondering if they used sushi rice. 3 stars. PORTOFINO: Their Italian dining place was surprisingly our least favorite. They had decent seafood appetizers though - the seafood frittata was a huge plate of fried mussels, fish, shrimp, etc. that was good, along with their grilled octopus carpaccio. Their entrees were rather ordinary - pasta with some red sauce or basic grilled salmon. 3 stars. SEASIDE GRILL: Outdoor restaurant converted to steakhouse. Octopus salad and hearts of palm salad were decent - both had tenderness and good acidity. Wife's veal scallops cooked medium were incredibly juicy while my NY steak cooked medium rare came out well, medium. It had a nice green pepper sauce but more chew than I liked. Desserts were great - a margarita mousse for her and a moist rich chocolate cake for me. 4 stars. BORDEAUX: Their French restaurant - beautiful, intimate settings with great food. They had a nice foie gras and mussels Rockefeller appetizer and my wife's pork tenderloin was tender and juicy. I was disappointed by the Italian place previously so I got their mushroom-asparagus fusilli pasta - YUM! 5 stars RATATOUILLE: At night the Buffet turns into a Mediterranean themed restaurant - which means more seafood! Seafood cippino, crown of shrimp entree, and the scallops appetizer salad were all light and refreshing. I went for the braised beef rib which was really good. 5 stars. EL PATIO: We had some nice carnitas tacos and this amazing lime soup for apps. For entree wife got fish steamed in banana leaves while I got the grilled salmon. We don't see seafood frequently on Mexican menus but we were glad to try - both dishes were perfect. Extra point for the chocolate soufflé dessert! 5 stars. NIGHT SHOWS: On most nights there were some pretty awesome shows. The most memorable ones were Glow Show (extreme juggling and dancing with props that light up with many colors), Urban Show (extreme breakdancing and music - good choreography similar to Michael Jackson One in LV), and the Rock Show - which is even more extreme juggling and Cirque du Soleil type stunts to the background of 80's rock from Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Starship, etc. 5-stars - easily better than anything we've seen on cruise ships and rivaling some of the Las Vegas quality shows. SERVICE: Excellent - everyone super friendly and greets you with a smile. They will find you and get you drinks - frequently. DAY ACTIVITIES: They have Zumba lessons, but I opted for Blackjack and Hold Em. One day they had a Paella cooking demo with plenty of paella and sangria to feed the resort - some of the best paella I've had! POOLS: They must have like 8 pools of different sizes and a couple of Jacuzzis. They were all clean and well-maintained. Will definitely recommend this resort! Only downsides are: watch out for mosquitoes and weak cocktails - so order lots of them!

I read through reviews before our vacation and actually started to regret booking our trip at this resort before we left. People complained about it being outdated or bad service or whatever. Maybe I'm easily amused but this was the nicest establishment I've ever been to. From the moment you walk through the door, you're treated like royalty. My biggest tip is to book directly through the resort or at least its affiliates. I had more leverage when I wanted to upgrade our room or move dates around because I booked directly on Silversands website. My next tip is to do at least one excursion. My favorite was definitely the jungle tour. You get your own little yellow boat and follow a group through this "jungle" (not really much of a jungle but still pretty) and then go snorkeling. It was awesome! I loved the amount of privacy at this resort. I opted for a swim up room (room 2101). Don't be fooled by the name, your pool is shared with prob 50 other people but ours was really private and didn't face the main pool which was really nice. We never counted more than 3-4 people in the pool at any given time. Gorgeous. My favorite restaurant was Oceana. Steaks were perfect and not having to worry about prices was a plus. This resort is pretty far from excursions. We had to drive a minimum of 20 min to get to anything but the flip side is that we felt more privacy here. I'd say this is a place you should try at least once.

Look how brown the water is from the seaweed. And the smell is awful
    Cole D.

Let me start by saying this is absolutely not a 5 star resort. Wife and I would rate it a 3 star resort. The obvious problem with this resort is the beach. The beach doesn't have the turquoise water you'll see in most of Cancun. And because the beach is so shallow and rocky, the seaweed problem turns the water dark brown. A dirty lake looks and smells better. The seaweed is so bad, you can smell it from your room patio. Take away the seaweed problem, the beach is still small, rocky and has large sandbags everywhere to protect the resort from erosion, but it is still an eye sore. I don't really blame the resort for the beach but it absolutely hurts the experience. Now to the resort, this place is only 10 years old yet you can really see the wear and tear. THE CONS: #1 Hardly any shade anywhere on the resort. #2 The breakfast buffett is just okay. #3 The drinks are not that good. You always have to ask for a double and the drinks are not consistent. #4 the swimup bar in the pool has zero shade and is in an awkward spot. #5 nothing about this resort feels like a 5 star resort. It just doesn't. It's a nice getaway, but the resort feels like a condo in flordia more than a luxurious resort. THE PROS: #1 The service is really good. We always tip when we go to Cancun, but the employees were working really hard for those who weren't tipping. Says a lot. #2 The beds are very comfortable. Hands down the most comfortable bed out of all the resorts we've stayed in. #3 All the restaurants are great, especially the italian. #4 evening entertainment is great, especially the relaxing music at the bar on the beach. It's the best part about the resort. #5 they have poolside service at every pool. It's really nice. Now would we come back again? No, because there are just too many resorts in cancun that offers great service, food and drinks, but has the turquoise blue water you want when you go to Cancun, and they are at a cheaper price than Silversands. It's that simple.

Spent 4 nights here with a few friends and it was a wonderful experience. I'm going to break this review down since there is so much in one place here. Room: If you forget something, don't fret, they provide you with a razor, toothbrush, shower cap, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, body wash, lotion and a sewing kit. The shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and lotion are all 4 oz, bigger than what you're allowed on the plane. Additionally the room offers you a robe and slippers and If you get time to watch TV, which we didn't turn it on once, they also provide a DVD player. Restaurants: World Cafe: Buffet style and like no other buffet I have ever seen. This place was huge! Fresh made eggs to order, omelets, fruit, every breakfast meat you can think of, dessert, etc. Plus in the morning is a mimosa and bloody mary bar. We went here a few times for breakfast and lunch. Had some of the best food here the whole trip! Bordeaux: This resort is not for the wine drinker as far as what's included, however Bordeaux offers an extensive wine list if you want to pay extra, the house wine was ok. We had the escargot, duck frois grois, lamb confit, and creme brûlée. I fell in love with the creme brûlée and it was probably my favorite food the entire time we were there (see Oceana below). We were told by another guest that the chicken cordon bleu was delicious, but we didn't sample it. The lamb confit left something to be desired. This was also my first experience trying octopus, which was too chewy for me but had a good smokey flavor. Himitsu: This is the only restaurant you need to make reservations for and it was WELL worth it. The entertainment of Hibachi, the service and the food all made it great. I could have just eaten the rice and been happy, it was that good! Oceana- I ordered the seafood lasagna and expected a creamy white sauce since it was listed as a white wine sauce. It was more like Campbell's tomato soup. The seafood was overdone and chewy, I only ate half of it. However, Didier provided such excellent service, he more than made up for it! The creme brulee I had the night before was just not enough and when my friend inquired if he could get it again for me, even though it was at a different restaurant, he made sure I received it. I was beyond happy and provided him with a nice tip as my way of saying thanks. He told us he was only filling in at this restaurant and mostly worked at El Patio so we went to dinner there that night and requested him. El Patio- This was my second favorite of the restaurants, the Caesar salad was fresh and crisp, the tortilla soup was full of flavor, and the mixed molcajete was amazing, it came in a boiling pot and was so full of delicious food, I coudln't even eat it with the tortillas because I was so full. Didier came by as we were singing Happy Birthday and asked about it, so he provided us with balloons, decorations and cake! Employees: While Didier by far provided the best service the entire time, I have to give a shout out to both Felipe & Esther, who both were friendly, courteous and provided excellent service too! A few suggestions for Secrets from us: provide hooks on the grass umbrellas on the beach for hanging up beach bags, install ceiling fans at the outside bars to circulate air. Provide an additional trash can in the room, anytime we wanted to throw anything away we had to go into the bathroom. Would have gladly cleaned up a bit more if there was a trash can provided. We encountered just a couple problems: Twice our door lock got flipped when the door closed and we were locked out of our room. We had to find s staff member who then used a broom to go through the room service door to flip it back. We were told this happens often. Maybe they should install a different type of lock. Sometimes we had issues with the wifi. Overall, this was an amazing place and I'd love the opportunity to go back someday!

My wife and I were at the Secrets Silversands Nov 2nd to 9th. We read the reviews prior to our trip so perhaps we were prepared for some of the horror stories people were complaining about, our experience at the resort was great! Sure, there were some flaws, there were some maintenance items that need attention, and really simple things - loose plumbing fixtures, dinged and bumped corners on walls, light fixtures that need to be replaced, grout and caulking in bathrooms. Really just minor items. The resort is past its prime. It's still very nice but it is not perfect, and it appears the resort is choosing not to address some of the maintenance issues. The seaweed on the beach was there during our stay, the resort had 4-6 guys daily working on cleaning up the seaweed from the water and a small tractor cleaning the beach. The water does have a few rocks, and sand bags to reduce erosion- so it is not perfect. I went into the ocean a few times, the water is warm and shallow. When we arrived, we were offered and opted to upgrade to an ocean front room, well worth it. We had a spectacular unobstructed view of the ocean, we were on the 4th floor, it was quiet, and private. We ordered room service breakfast twice and really enjoyed it on the balcony. Not sure the preferred club offered any special, we went in a few times. It was super quiet, I'd rather be around the crowds and the other guests. The food overall was very good, a couple meals were average. We enjoyed the Italian and the Mediterranean - desserts were particularly delicious. The service was also very good. One issue though with our stay - my wife and I are friendly, so we met a few other couples during our vacation, and we decided to enjoy dinner together. The restaurants gave us difficulties to arrange a table for 8. Ultimately they did, but only after much grief and not at the restaurant of our choice. We were told if we wanted to eat together we needed to pay for the private dining room. Tips - if you want eggs bennie for room service, need to order in advance- we were told 24 hours in advance - there is a dress code for most restaurants - bring extra sunscreen, it's very expensive to buy at the resort - be aware of the timeshare pitch, we were warned so we avoided it, others we met did not and ended up buying in

Is this a secret worth keeping? Let's find out

Secret Silversands Riviera Cancun, located outside of Cancun in a place called Puerto Morelos. Away from the hustle and bustle of Cancun, this place would be a ideal spot if you are not planning to walk/travel on foot far. Got a great deal on a booking website last minute, this 4 day 3 night escapade was a much needed getaway. On arrival, I was greeted with mimosas, staff to take luggage, and a smiling front desk representative to check us in. After that was settled, we got the "timeshare" talk and politely declined. This hotel did not pester us with it after we said no for the rest of the trip, which was VERY MUCH appreciated. I have been to previous resorts where timesharing inquiries multiple times can really spoil the fun. Like the previous all-inclusive resort I recently stayed in, I can write a huge review on it. I am going to give the highlights via pros and cons to you Yelpers. Pros: -Friendly waiters, bartenders, entertainment team, you name it, everyone welcomed us well -Room was huge! With jacuzzi, couch, king sized bed, the works -Birthday sparkling wine in the room with balloons was a nice touch -Lots of selection for restaurants -They enforce their dress codes at the restaurants (Stay class, folks) -Lots of things to do, gym was fully equipped -Loved water aerobics and water spinning -Shows are cheesy funny Cons: -Food quality was mediocre at best, nothing really outstanding -Room service food is very forgettable, go out of the room and eat -Drinks are made with bottom shelf liquor, unless you specifically ask for the "good" stuff -Sometimes a smell of sewer would appear near the hotel -Not a lot of beach chairs, you have to put your towel on them first thing in the morning to get a good spot -Beach is rocky and seaweed filled, skip this unfortunately You are not expected to tip the staff, but I noticed that if you do, the service gets exponentially better. These people do make little wage compared to us Americans, so a little bit definitely goes a long way. A 3 and half rating for this hotel. Next time I go to Cancun, I am planning to focus more on the excursions and day trips (Tulum, Xel Ha, etc.)

The Best of the Best--Secrets Silversands Resort We recently returned on (April 15th) from such a delightful week-long stay at Secrets Silversands that I felt compelled to share the details. We recently returned on (April 15th) from such a delightful week-long stay at Secrets Silversands that I felt compelled to share the details. The primary purpose of our trip was for my husband and myself to get away, relax and enjoy warm, sunny weather. We also went away to celebrate a milestone birthday (my 60th)! When we arrived, we were greeted with a cool towel and a glass of champagne. We were checking in a bit early so we changed into our swimsuits and relaxed at the main pool. Shortly after lunch, our room was ready and we were brought to our wonderful swim-out suite. Our suite was elegant, immaculate, and very spacious. The bed in our room was decorated with rose petals spelling out "Welcome Back" as well as the number "60" and a Birthday Banner! Our room also was filled with balloons, and a bottle of champagne was on ice chilling! From that point on, I knew that this would be a fantastic birthday celebration at a fabulous destination. So happy we chose Secret Silversands for our get away! We were amazed at the immediate and superb service we always received around our building's pool. "Delmy" and "Leonardo" never let our glasses go dry. Each morning Delmy would greet us with a bottle of cold water as well. Both were absolutely wonderful, and provided us the best pool service ever! Our pool and the main pool were located very close to each other, so we were able to hop over to the main pool to participate in many of the pool activities. What a fun time! Now for #1 reason that Secret Silversands is our all-time favorite is the service that they provided. Each morning we would have breakfast at the World Cafe. On our 2nd day arriving at the World cafe, "Mar" welcomed us by our name! Impressive! Another awesome person we met during our stay was Miguel. We met him on our 1st day arrival at the Veranda Bar. Although we didn't go to the Veranda bar many evenings, when we did, he remembered us and our drink order from our 1st night--very impressive!! The food throughout the resort was excellent! Each meal was wonderfully presented, fresh and delicious. It was truly some of he best meals we've ever had. We dined at all of the restaurants while at Secrets Silversands. Our favorite two restaurants, I would say would be Portofino, as well as Bordeaux. We visited them twice during the week. For lunch we also would enjoy the outdoor grill. Twice while during the week, they even had Paella poolside--so great! Another fun event that was held during the week we were there was the Managers Reception party. It had great food, tequila tastings, champagne and fun game tables with chances to win a bottle of wine or champagne. It was a great way to begin the evening! My husband and I have visited several all-inclusive properties. It was mainly Iberostar and Palace Resorts when our children were younger, and in the past 3 years, this is was our 5th stay at a Secrets property. This vacation at Secrets Silversands was our BEST vacation ever! We will definitely be back here again next year! We love Secrets Silversands!!!

    Beautiful wedding spot!
    Nina H.

My husband and I spent 9 days here so I'll try to keep this brief. Ha! This place was great and so accommodating! My husband and I recently had our wedding there and they sure took care of everything. They will help you whether you are planning an extravagant wedding or a small gathering. We had 50 guests attend and they made sure all my guests had a great experience. Spa: The place has everything you need or a wedding. The salon has a wide array of services so you can SPOIL yourself on your special day. I had my hair done (looked awesome!), an 80 minute massage, and a fish spa all on different days. I loved the spa! If you are ticklish perhaps the fish spa isn't for you, but it was certainly an experience! Rooms: The rooms were good. We were upgraded to premier and had a swim out infinity pool. Wow was the view fantastic. On the other hand, my parents had some trouble with rooms smelling of mold, water streams running through their rooms and who knows what else. Each my my mom went to the premier concierge and they helped her. Thank goodness for their patience. :P At any rate, I thought the rooms where fantastic, but if you have trouble or are dissatisfied, just speak up. The staff are there to make sure you have THE BEST experience. Premier: If you are a drinker or foodie, it might be worth a few extra bucks to upgrade to the premier or whatever they call it. You'll get more food selection on your room service menu. You can also go into the lounge and get top shelf alcohol. Sometimes I felt the alcohol at the other bars were either cheap or they were not adding a lot to the drinks. If you plan on drinking all day I guess weak drinks might not be a bad thing though. Food: Wowza. The food at night was great! In the day, it was pretty bleh. Burgers and fries at the grill or they usually had grilled chicken and some other Mexican dishes outside too. My favorite place I didn't find until the second to last day. Inside they have a buffet and they have a create-your-own tacos and pasta bar. My favorite restaurant is hard to say but my favorite dishes were French Onion Soup and escargot from Bordeaux, Molcajete from El Patio, and Shrimp Ravioli from Portafino. Entertainment: I thought the night entertainment was lacking. I went to Excellence Riviera Maya last year and it was amazing. They had a HUGE stage and had entertainment like a Michael Jackson cover. The stage was small and didn't have a grandiose vibe. They had the normal entertainment cirque de soleil. I just didn't get the awe feeling there like I did at Excellence. Apart from the nightlife, or lack there of, was the entertainment staff. Mayra was very loud, outgoing and got everything involved. I loved the extra activities that they offered and tried to participate when I could. They had sand vball, beach vball, bingo (this is how I won the free fish spa!), etc etc. They have plenty of activities to keep you entertained. I'd say you should take advantage of that! Pools: Awesome pools. I was bummed that they only have one true hot tub. They have two hot tub looking areas, but the other one that is attached to the pool is cold. I was extremely dissatisfied with the pool bar. It seems like no matter what time of day it is always in the shade. It was a bit cool there when we went so no one was really hanging around it. On the other hand, the pool side service was great! Last disappointment about the pool is that they closed early. I believe 6pm. It seemed WAY too early. Overall, the resort was nice. I think I like Excellence was a better experience. I think Secrets Silversands was perfect for the large group that we had however. I'm glad we went with this resort for the wedding. Will I be back? To Secrets, yes, but probably not this resort.

    Entertainment at outside dinner

This is a five star resort. The resort is all inclusive. All adults. The people and service was excellent. As so as you arrive they hand you a hand towel to freshen up and a glass of champagne. Check in was fast. The room was spacious and clean. Multiple pools. The beach was small and a lot of seaweed washed up. They had people scooping up the seaweed. People at the pool and beach serving drinks. They had a grill setup everyday near the pool area. The grill chicken delish. Multiple restaurants. They asked you to dress nice and nice is pants and shirt. No shorts and tshirts. They also hosted an outside dinner with 3 tenors singing. The food at the restaurants was average. Avoid the Asian restaurant the food there was below average. The fried ice cream was covered with oatmeal. That was the fried effect. All the restaurants show you a wine list and that is an extra charge when you order from list. The drinks were watered down but if you order a shot of vodka or tequila you will taste the alcohol. The breakfast was a buffet. Lunch for us was the outside grill. They had a live band or a deejay at night. The gym had all the equipment to workout. They love to feed you, they try their best to entertain you and they are always nice and friendly. Very relaxing resort.

    Happy Birthday My Love!!
    Miranda L.

Booked this resort as a Birthday/Sweetest Day surprise trip for my boyfriend and neither one of us were disappointed! From the time we arrive until the time we checked out we had an amazing experience. Our room was ready when we checked in at 1030a when usually check in is at 3pm, we were greeted with a nice cool glass of champagne and a cool rag to wipe our hands and/or face from the humidity of outside. We were greeted with a friendly smile and immediately checked in and the bellman took our bags to our room and on the way gave us a mini tour as he pointed out pool areas, bars, restaurants, entertainment areas and more! The entertainment team was awesome especially Miguel! Omg such a joy and pleasure to see his smiling face every time we encountered him and he always remembered our names and greeted us with a warm hug for me and handshake for the mister. The food was amazing at all the restaurants including room service, the concierge was very helpful with assisting with booking excursions off site which were so much fun!! From half day bookings to full days. We definitely had a great time and would not only recommend this resort to others but will be visiting again ourselves! Thank you all soooo much for making his 30th birthday one he'll never forget!

Long post here but worth the read. We went here for our wedding / vow renewal ceremony. If you are a bride, just be forewarned that you cannot get legally married here because it's in Mexico so you must do testing 4 days prior to the ceremony then get a translator for your state for transfer. A large pain! - but that has nothing to do with the review, just a side note. The rooms are large and beautiful but have a weird musty smell. All of them do. The hotel itself has a sulfer door that comes and goes. If you have a strong sense of smell, just be ready for it. I think it's just being close to the ocean. The pools are amazing. Like the reviews said, the swim up pool is not a swim up pool. It's a pool outside of your room. Not worth the extra money. The hotel staff are very nice, but it's sad because they work their lives away. We tipped a lot, mainly because we got to know them all. Recommend you do, too! The food is excellent and the coffee is perfect. All of the restaurants are amazing. The shows are fun and the entertainment crew definitely makes it so much fun. They could have more shows and stuff, because they do such a great job. Everyone loved just hanging out with them! We recommend this hotel and place if you're looking for a nice romantic get away with your love. Very very coupled up and romantic. For the price, you can't beat it. Ps- our wedding coordinator, Marine, was fabulous. If you're getting married or doing a vow renewal, ask for her. She is the best. Super sweet lady.

I cannot wait to come back!! We did 7 nights and loved every second. This was my first time doing adults only & all inclusive ... I'll never go another way! The food: 5 stars!! From the breakfast buffet to the many restaurants... Delish!! And for an all inclusive you would be amazed by the menus! 24/7 room service !! All inclusive champagne delivered by picking up the phone??? Yes! The service: 5 stars! Every employee was so welcoming and friendly. I have never been at a resort where all the staff was smiling and doing anything to make you happy. They walk the beach and take drink orders in the Gulf of Mexico. They even greet you upon arrival with champagne and wet towels. The spa: 5 stars! We go a couples massage and enjoyed the steam room, hot tub, outdoor pool.. I recommend booking a morning appointment so you have the afternoon to enjoy all the amenities. The room: perfect! We got an ocean front room. It was HUGE. BEAUTIFUL bathroom- Huge hottub in the room, walk in shower that could fit 10 people. Separate room for toilet. Beautiful balcony. COMFORTABLE BED! Huge plus!! This is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation in a beautiful location with amazing staff. Best for a couples retreat ;)

We are here right now and I'm just not impressed. I've been to Mexico over 10 times. This place is very ok. For the increase in price, I was expecting more. The rooms are standard. Nothing exciting. No new upgraded features or even something to connect to your iPhone. The AC is terrible. My husband and myself haven't laid under the sheets the past two nights because it's so stuffy. We tried changing rooms but they all are the same. It's fairly clean. The food is like every other "gourmet all inclusive". Mediocre at best. It's not fantastic but it's pretty good. Coming from Chicago, this is very average... Anyone that said they had the best meal of their life...we need to chat. HA! The service...well the reception staff is ok. They always just say yes. We never went for our VIP coupons because I'm pretty sure it's going to be a rip off. Been there done that. Most of the service is awful. Quick shout out to Franky, BENJI, Alex and Abigail....they were the only people that were good at this resort. There are several bars and restaurants. All pretty decent. Nothing overtly great or bad about any of them. Overall, I'm not really impressed. We came here because our friends are getting married here but I don't think we would've chose this place. And we won't be returning nor recommending this place.

I felt safe, cared for, valued and respected. 2 days of treatments at the spa were top notch. Amazing service by Eduardo, Juan, Leslie, Carmen, Denise, and Alberto. Some people say the treatments are expensive but I found that they were comparable to any nice, luxurious and exclusive day spa I have ever been to. It was worth every penny. Tons of pools and activities. I did not have to worry about finding seating. Moises at the Excellence Club pool was absolutely outstanding. He is legend around here and I can see why. Most days were spent at the beach, meditating and relaxing. I have never been taken care of better than I was by Ivan and Jorge. They were outstanding gentlemen and treated me very well and ensured I had a great week. Hibachi dinner was excellent. Rosy and Gerardo were so much fun. Food was fantastic. Erika at Aroma was a pleasure to see each night as I got a warm drink and tea to settle down for the evening. Overall, an absolutely great experience. I will definitely be booking another trip for next year.

All of the restaurants are great, my favorites were Basmati and Spice. The only room for improvement: I wish there were healthier options available by the pools do lunch. The taco truck is great but doesn't open until 4pm.. a little late for lunch. I don't want fries/hotdog/burger/nachos for lunch. The Linux buffet was great, but it would've been nice to have a salad or tacos by the pool. Loved the shows and trivia every night! Can't wait to go back.

I was thinking about why I liked CDM so much. We were only there 3 nights and then went down to…read moreAkumal, but it left such an impression on me. I've stayed in more luxurious places, including Danielles in Venice. I think I know the CDM secret. It was the lack of people that you see. Nothing and no-one annoyed me here. Even in luxurious places, there is likely someone who will be annoying, or rude or abrupt or loud, or arrogant or whatever. In fact, some of the "exclusive" places have some very arrogant and superior people, and that detracts from the experience. But I don't need to tell you how annoying people can be, do I? Not that people can't be very nice also, but the more people around, the more chance someone will detract from your experience. But when you don't even come across other people (except the ones you bring with), there's no-one to possibly bother you. You go to the beautiful pool, and there's no-one there. Not even anyone doing the "reserve our lounge chairs with towels at the crack of dawn game", when they don't use them till noon. None of that stupid stuff, and no screaming kids doing cannonballs in the pool (not that I don't like kids). The beautiful pool might as well be in your own back yard. You don't hear the adjacent room through the thick walls, and you don't even see other room balconies. The grounds are designed so every balcony is private. No-ones front door is next to yours, or even nearby. You look out over the grounds and virtually no-one is walking around. You go to the pier and it's empty of people. You go to the beach and no-one is there also. You pick your favorite lounge chair location and it's open just waiting for you. The staff here were all nice and subdued and not intrusive, but were friendly if you chatted a bit to them. When they bring your breakfast trays in the morning to your room, they place it in a hutch by the front door and you don't even see them! Look at the pictures I posted. The professional ones are from the CDM website and mine are the others. You'll notice there's no-one in the pictures. Other resorts have to rope off the area to get deserted pictures like those, and when you get there it is overrun by strangers. Not at CDM. When you think of that, you should try to stay here if you ever can, even for a few days. It's actually great value for the money. What an awesome experience. They do destination weddings here, and that probably feels like you rented the whole resort, cause I'm sure the other guests would stay out of your way. I can't think of another place like CDM.

When we first arrived, we booked a swim-out room, which was nice, but the rooms and parts of the resort definitely felt like they could use some updating. My biggest issue was the AC in our original room--it was barely working, and the first night was honestly uncomfortable. The humidity made it feel stuffy, and I had a hard time sleeping. Because of that, we decided to upgrade to the club/villa section on the opposite side of the resort--and that completely changed our experience. That area is much more secluded, quieter, and feels more upscale. We upgraded to a swim-out king room there, and it was beautiful--much newer, cleaner, and overall way more enjoyable. The private rooftop pool and more exclusive vibe made a huge difference for us. The food was actually really good, which was a pleasant surprise--no complaints there at all. Overall, I'd say this resort really depends on the room you book. If we had stayed in the original room, I probably would've rated it around a 3.5-4. But because we upgraded, we ended up having a great time. Tip: If you're considering staying here, I'd definitely recommend booking or upgrading to the club/villa section--it made all the difference for us.

The ocean did have some seaweed while we were there, but the resort staff clearly worked hard to manage it and keep things as clean as possible. One of the highlights was definitely the pool ...it might be one of the biggest and most fun pools we've experienced in Mexico. Plenty of space, great energy, and just an all-around good time. Overall, a great stay with a fun atmosphere, great service, and everything you need for a relaxing getaway. We'd definitely come back.

Our Butlers were Norma, Catherine & Enrique ( who we never met) Catherine visited us twice by the pool and Norma was the main texter sweet but none didn't do very much .
