I'm also glad they kept access open even with all the construction happening around Elliott Bay. Despite the name, Pocket Beach isn't really a beach in the traditional sense. It's mostly pebbles and rocks instead of sand, but that's part of what makes it interesting. There are a bunch of big driftwood logs along the shore (not sure if they were placed there or just floated in over time), and they make great spots to sit and enjoy the view. It's actually a really nice place to catch the sunset. On clear evenings the light over Elliott Bay is beautiful and the logs are perfect for sitting and taking it all in. It's also very dog friendly. Lots of people bring their pups, and my fur babies love climbing over the logs, exploring the rocks, and splashing around near the water. Overall it's a great little stop along the Elliott Bay Trail if you want to sit for a bit, enjoy the scenery, or just get outside and relax.

The honey and I nabbed a log and enjoyed the ferry coming in while we ate our general porpoise. The beach has sand, but it's fairly light with much of the space made up of rocks with quite a bit of driftwood. All in all a pretty sweet place to decompress before getting on the ferry.

Plan accordingly. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ Outdoor adventures keeps the guided groups small (maximum 12 people). I appreciate the small groups since this was my first time kayaking. Three types of kayaks are available: single, double or triple occupancy. Discover is an accepted form of payment. A Discover Pass is required to park at Spencer Spit. If you do not have a pass, a $10 day pass can be purchased with cash or check. There were several rangers checking passes on our visit so be sure to have a pass visibly displayed to avoid being ticketed. WHAT TO BRING - Signed Release of Liability - Bathing suit or non-cotton under layers preferred - A synthetic shirt (capilene, polypro, Under Armor, etc) - Shorts or pants made of a synthetic material (may get wet/damp) - Lightweight fleece jacket or windbreaker/rain jacket to provide warmth - Water shoes or sandals that strap on (or shoes that can get wet) - Sun hat and/or sunglasses - Sunscreen and chapstick - Water bottle - Optional; Camera, Plastic bag for wet items and change of clothing - If you have a gift certificate or prepaid voucher (such as Groupon) please bring a printed copy with you! Dorito Dan was our guide for the day. Dan was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The first hour is dedicated to introductions, procedures and safety. Be sure to use the restroom before departing. Once on the water, there is no turning back. Kayaking is great for teamwork and communication. Both are required to avoid frustration. I recommend wearing weight-lifting/bicycle gloves in order to prevent blisters. Each person in our group started getting blisters towards the end of the tour. During our 3 mile kayaking trip, we spotted starfish, seals and majestic bald eagles. Thank you Outdoor Adventures for providing a magnificent day of play while surrounded by gorgeous Mother Nature. We all plan to return in the near future for another go-around.

I was able to get up and hydroplane. I couldn't quite get to actually foil but I did way better than I expected and that was all due to Brett! He is very clear, patient and fun to work with. He was able to give us both great instructions even though we are different levels of ability. We got so much time in the water learning. It was soooo fun! I highly recommend him! Definitely worth the money!

I was able to stand up after about an hour, and I was instantly hooked. Super fun, and totally worth the money. We unfortunately saw no whales during our first outing (so many cute seals and eagles though!), but they were able to squeeze us in the next day for another chance at no additional cost. And on that second trip we were blessed to see multiple orca pods socializing together! They had a mic that they inserted into the water, and we got to listen to them socialize.
