The rain boots I was looking for in my size was in stock. Not sure why there weren't too many people on a Sunday afternoon, but I pretty much had the whole store to myself. The gentleman in the shoes area knew exactly what I was talking about when I showed him a photo of the rain boots. He walked me over, grabbed the box, and guided me to a bench to try on. The cherry on top is that he even shared that Sports Basement price matches if you're able to find the exact shoe for less on competitors' sites. Great customer service! After walking around each floor, I eventually made my way to the cashier, who was also friendly. All displays and merchandise are clean and orderly. All of the staff I've encountered here have been very knowledgeable and are all experienced hikers/climbers from what I can tell. When it gets more crowded in the store it can sometimes be a bit hard to flag down a member, but once you're able to see them they are usually pretty helpful. The store also has a wide variety of equipment, and I feel fortunate that I live near one that's not far away. If you're looking for camping/hiking supplies, then this is the place to be as they usually have anything you might be looking for. Great store and brand, also love the return policy!

I love both backpacking and car camping and have rented a lot of gear from different outfitters (REI, Sports Basement, etc) -- you can't find this quality of gear for rent anywhere else nor can you match the ease of delivery. The kit was incredibly well-selected from the warm, plush luxury Thermarest sleeping pads to the solar lanterns that provide an excellent evening ambience. As others have noted, make sure to arrange your own fuel (depending on your kit's particular stove). Even though I own a lot of my own gear, I definitely plan on using Camp Kit in the future for augmenting my own kit or when gear-less friends need supplies!

They dropped it off at our house in Oakland the night before we left and picked it up at our house the day after we got back. I looked into two other camp rentals here in the bay area. One of them you had to go in to reserve and pick up in either Berkeley or San Rafael and the other only delivered in SF. Camp Kit was a bit more expensive than both of the others but I think for the quality of gear, ease of ordering, delivery/pick up and great customer service it was well worth it. The only thing i would say is i wish they offered the propane for the stove as an add on, so i didn't have to go get it, lol. So we left our extra one in the kit for the next person. Another thing is now after using all this nice equipment and getting to test it out. we know what we may want to purchase in the future and what we may not. We really liked the little stove, so convenient and easy to use! Also, they gave koozies for us to keep in the kit! can't ever have too many of those.

They had all the gear (we had some but a few things we didn't, and they had, and those that did not have gear, they were set up 100%). We had a mixture of individuals - so with backpacking experience and for some it was their first time. The team guides were awesome - they were aware of how everyone was doing and provided options for paths or when the group wanted to take a break. They provided information on the area we were in - including entertaining stories. The camping spot was remote and beautiful - right in the edge of the lake. The evening campfire was enjoyable. We had a great group of people and remain in contact with them. If you want to go off the beaten path, see the beauty in our own backyard that not many see, and learn how to backpack - DO AN EXPEDITION. It is worth it with what you'll come away with!.

I headed towards the shoe department and spotted the pair I had seen online, although here they were not on sale. I figured I would ask an employee but there was only one working in the vicinity. There was a kiosk that I attempted to use but it did not even show the shoes in stock. I did not have all day to wait but I hung around for a bit longer by the entrance to the shoe stock room and an another employee finally appeared, said 'excuse me' and walked right by me without asking if I needed help. This is probably obvious to others, but if you want to get good service it's best to go to a smaller business! Or even just another large sporting goods store, of which we have several in the Bay. Dicks though, they live up to their name.
