I am a Fido user and one of the perks for the month was free Second Cup coffee. So B and I came over to claim the free coffee. I find Second cup's coffee not wow. There are only 2 locations in BC and many more locations in Alberta. Tim beats Second Cup in Alberta and it was funny when googling, I didn't realized the number of Second Cups in Alberta. I was in Alberta for 6 months and have never seen a Second Cup or maybe I wasn't paying attention. Yes Second Cup is a Canadian company and at one point Starbucks talked about buying them out. Guess that never happened. I preferred their competitor drinks over them due to the location and the available options. Their coffee is ok and like I said not wow. The bright thing about this cafe is the place is very clean. Also it is a great location to have a quick conversation with someone here. It never gets too loud compared to the other coffee shops. I believe that the owner helped to serve us and he was very nice. Seems to run a tight ship. Everything was so neat and organized and the employees were professional. The Chai Latte is what we always get at this chain and it did not disappoint. You have to try this! We were able to sit at a table inside for a bit and enjoy our drink. Oh boy - it is next to a chocolate shop too! Ack! There are many other food choices in this Center too if you wanted to grab your coffee here and then lunch nearby. There were even benches outside in a cute area with a lot of greenery. Great location in central Vancouver. read more

I don't see many Second Cup locations around and I think this is the first time I've been to one. There was a BOGO hot chocolate promotion for Mondays so my co workers and I came to take advantage of it. I tried the Cinnamonroll white hot chocolate and I should've got it half sweet because it was very sweet. They were very generous with the whipped cream too so if you want less, you should probably tell them. It was a nice treat though! read more

Bad customer experience. I had gone in after work to redeem my bag of beans. The cashier first said it was ok and asked me to go pick a bag. Once I had one picked out, I asked if the barista would grind it for me. She was like "just so you know we can't redeem any Rewards right now." If she heard I was redeeming a reward, shouldn't she have informed immediately that it doesn't work? I had spent 3 minutes choosing a bag and was standing right by her, and she had not mentioned anything until I talked to her. So I said, I'll just come back another time. She's like "why don't you just go to the location you usually go to?" I replied this is the one! "Oh really? I don't recognize you." I informed her that I come early in the morning right before work. She replied "oh ok..." Seriously, who are you to dictate where I should get my bag of beans?? And secondly, 2nd cup is definitely not a Starbucks. There are only 3 locations in the lower mainland so it's not like I can just "go to my usual location." It totally felt like she was trying to prevent me from redeeming or perhaps not helping me grind the beans? But you know what? All the other two locations are too far from me! This is the second visit I've done at this location in the last month (not really located on my path). If you intend to geek out be prepared to take the time needed to download and setup stuff for the better deal in your coffee transactions. However once you're set you're set. Last night I enjoyed a mocha with whip however interacting with the barista wasn't as easy as I would have hoped. And the drunk delivery was uncomfortable. Odd. read more

Okay, so Second Cup is my favorite coffee chain. Sure I'm at Starbucks more frequently, but that's because out here on the west coast Second Cup is almost non-existent. When i realized there was an actual sit-down location underneath the BMO HQ I had to stop in. First of all, I walked in and the 2 baristas (some asian guy and a short-haired blond girl) that were behind the counter stopped talking and just stared at me. As if I'd just interrupted something. And there was this awkward silence. No greeting, no welcome, just silence. I wondered if they had just closed (you know how when you walk in 5 minutes to close and baristas give you the "why the heck are you in here???? Get out!" look). They said they were open. Again, awkward. Usually isn't this the point where they should say "can we help you with anything today? " or "can i get a beverage started for you?". Seriously. Nothing. I was so flustered by the non-service that I could barely order straight. I'm thoroughly confounded as to why the customer service here is so lacking. You'd think being the only SC cafe in a Starbucks saturated city they'd be hiring staff that can do better than give mute service. Good coffee, but extremely perplexing staff. read more

Hooray for gigantic coffee! I was encouraged to try out Second Cup, which is hidden in the underground tunnels connecting the Bentall Buildings, so I decided to give it a go fearing the Starbucks line. I went against the advise to try a latte (note to self, must go back to latte), and ordered up a large drip coffee, butter pecan flavor. Service was pretty quick, except their machine didn't seem to like my chipped credit card which help up the immedicacy a few seconds, and I was pleased as punch when my coffee was put in front of me - it was the same size as a Starbucks Venti and the same cost as a grande - swish! I added my usual fixings and rushed along my merry way. It wasn't until a few minutes later I had my first sip, and can I just say it was the best flavored coffee I've ever had. And not just because I put honey and sweetener in, but because it actually tasted like butter pecan. Swish! This is easily going to become my morning go to for coffee the size of my head.... mmmm, morning java. read more

I was happily investigating this whole underground shopping area when I spotted Second Cup. Even though I was in a rush, I *knew* I would have to try a latte! It looked warm and inviting, and they had a big poster advertising their latte, how could I not go in? Friendly lady served me, latte was made quick - just what I'd expect from a coffee shop in this area. It was very nice and smooth and creamy, but it did remind me of a Starbucks latte in that it wasn't so strong. But I liked it! I'd like to come back when in the area and have a proper sit down, it looked very welcoming there :) read more

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. The problem with this location is the staff. They appear to be the same staff for a number of years and they are horrible. After a year of totally avoiding this place, i decided to give them another chance today, bad decision. They did what they always do which is serve other customers that are 'regulars'. It doesn't matter if you are next in line...they will serve a customer they know 1st and keep you waiting. They don't treat ever customer equally, the regulars get greeted and served immediately despite of the line up. Everyone else get 3rd class service. It's very rude. read more

I really like this place, everyone is really friendly and attentive and my latte is perfect every time. I've only ever gotten a vanilla bean latte (YUM!) and it's very consistent in flavor - not too sweet, but definite vanilla tones. Prices are very reasonable, under $5 for a large. Always a good place to stop on a rainy day on the way home for an after work caffeine boost. read more

This location is very convenient because it is literally a stop on my way up to my office each morning, and on Tuesdays they have a really good deal on lattes, so my co-workers and I come here about once a week. There isn't anything special about the location other than the fact that they serve almond milk. They have the standard over-priced coffee house merch, the ennui-crusted hipster staff, and the assembly line drink construction. I don't think I've seen so many unsmiling faces in a coffee shop before. The drinks are also fairly standard, though they use a powder for their Chai that is rarely mixed properly. I love the way it tastes but I always have to stir it a few extra times because the chunks of powder mix float to the surface and are kind of unpleasant. If other coffee shops make almond milk a part of their product offering I probably wouldn't keep coming here, even on Tuesdays. I'll pay extra not to have chai bits stuck in my teeth. The service was so bad. I told barista at the very beginning and repeat couple times to redeem the beverage by using rewards, but he didn't listen at all and charged money from my card. When I asked him, his attitude was sooo bad. He yelled to me. He said it's my fault because I didn't tell him and my points still there. That's super rediculous! I don't want to argue with him, but he kept on yelling until I was leaving. That's soooo bad. read more

When I forget my to-go coffee on the kitchen counter, like this morning, this is where I get my fix! I am a plain jane kind of girl and get the dark roast with cold soy milk, so it's pretty hard to f**k up and guess what!! They didn't :)! Ha ha ha you all thought I was going to say they did! Anyway, the service is fast, efficient and friendly. The only down side that I can think of is that the cash register area seems to be very cramped with crap to sell. Needs to be a little more open there so one doesn't feel squished. Other than that, it's good to go. PS the coffee is fabulicious as well. read more

This is my favourite coffee chain in Canada. It is a shame that Vancouver doesn't have more, as both their espresso based drinks and beans for sale are far superior to Starbucks, Blendz and the rest of the crowd. It's only open on weekdays in the base of the Benthall Center, but worth the extra few minutes walk. read more

Customer service at this Second Cup location is horrible. I ordered a matcha latte and forgot to mention that I needed it half sweet. When I went over to the girl and asked for it, she said she had already made it, gave me a face, dumped out what was in there and filled it back with milk. The matcha powder was not there, I paid $5 for just steamed milk. read more
